don't you get the state fair through agriculture?

can you copy and rename the regions in the Program Files Regions folder? Like if I wanted to use the same region over again without wipinig the previous cities off the region.

Whats your preffered method for building a city?
simpants replied to Randomtaskk's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
That would take me a lot longer than 45 minutes I usually just layout some major roads, aves, or highways and then lay in some rail. After that I just click drag massive areas of RCI all over the map, get utilities in place and then start planning my city. This usually gets me up to some healthy cash and time to think about how I want my city to look. Too often when I try to pre plan my cities I struggle keeping money flowing early on and getting good growth, and invariably I need to move roads or highways. So basically, minimal infrastructure, ugly city, then tweak it the way I want it, usually small city sections at a time. I don't necessarily recommend it, but it fits my style. -
Installation of January 2009 NAM - Lost roads!
simpants replied to Topgum's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I did the same thing, I had turn lanes turned on when I first installed the NAM and then when I installed the 2009 NAM I decided against having them. It killed all my intersections and was kind of annoying, but my choice. I just turned on the zone map to get rid of the buildings and fixed them all. You should be able to select the road tool and single click in the center of every intersection to fix it. -
What would be a good building to make for the ST Exchange?

Some things I have wanted to see, but don't know if they are possible since I am new to the BAT and Lot editor are: -some medium growable medical offices, like GP/specialist type doctors that would give jobs as well as a small radius of medical care. -a department of transportation, ideally this could be a reward but could help reduce traffic in your city; maybe triggered by having a certain amount of highways/rail. -lower capacity jail, something in between the default jail and the large police station with an appropriate cost per month. -
Originally posted by: nosyreporter Yes the power can be sold between cities. This is what I do ... in my Industrial city, I establish a power plant and leave room for others near the edge (adjacent to the Residential city) so I don't have to spend a lot on power lines. Then you draw some power lines between your plant and the residential city. It will ask if you want a connection to Sim Nation and you say yes. Then eventually it will say that neighbors are clamoring for power deals on the cheap and if you want to initiate a deal. You say yes. Then your residential area has power and your industrial area has power. As each one grows your power demand will grow, then you can add more power plants to the Industrial city and it will flow along the power lines to the residential city. At least that is what I do and it has worked very well. The only time I don't do this is when I am putting down water lines and the pump is out in the boonies. Then I just put a windmill next to it so it has its own power.quote> This is how I make money in my industrial cities by selling power and having my neighbors pay for trash. I can keep all of that in one city tile and usually make enough money to stay in the black. If I start getting into the red on money I just add a bit of commercial and/or residential to bring up the money.

I was wondering if it was possible to build roads, railroads, or even buildings under bridges. Sometimes I have a very high bridge that spans not only the water but also a great deal of the coastal plain. What I would like to do is build continuously under this bridge, at least be able to connect with roads. Are there any mods or what not that enable this? I know I can fly planes under bridges and into buildings so there is a 3D aspect to the lots and bridges. Any help?

I didn't think about the downloaded buildings, but that is a good point. I only use a few of those like higher capacity hospitals, but that is to avoid having hospitals all over the place. It is not too big a deal, having more money is certainly not a bad thing. I was just curious if there were some big money projects that I wasn't aware of. Thanks to everyone for the replies!

Ryan--I've tried cutting taxes and increasing funding for everything, but that just results in less revenue or a loss. I guess I could just rock back and forth between revenue gain and loss to lower my cash. I have been looking at the STEX and have downloaded some stuff from the EA site, but basically it is just so overwhelming. I will get to it.

I try to keep my cities with a positive budget so that I am always making money. So, my monthly revenue always exceeds my expenses. The problem is, I end up with a huge surplus of cash that I really don't need. I can't seem to find anything to spend the money on that doesn't require a monthly expense. Even upgrading infrastructure or adding landmarks, although reduces my monthly revenue, doesn't seem to have much of an effect. Now granted, I haven't really made any massive cities yet (500k pop is biggest so far), but I just feel like I should be spending this money on the city and there is nothing to spend it on. By the way not using any mods for money or anything. I am just curious if there is anything to spend money on that won't net me a loss in monthly revenue. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem recently with residential growing out of control and everything else never caught up. I usually do a few things, first rezoning like you have done to try and balance it better. Second, I build another city adjacent to the one I have and just create industrial and/or commercial to provide jobs for the neighbors. Finally, I got a little frustrated this weekend so I downloaded some modded landmarks that people have made that provide jobs off the EA site. So plopping down a big landmark that has a few thousand jobs has saved some of my bigger residential sections. Infrastructure is important, especially with transportation and access to and from the jobs via bus/subway or other means.
