Well, as some of you know my computer tanked a few days back. I finally got it into the shop today, but it's going to be about 6 days before they can even look at it. 15.gif So, in the meantime I unfortunately can't get those houses onto the STEX as I was planning. Argh!

I threw the BAT on my little laptop so I can get my BATting fix though. I'm not going to do anything major, this thing cries when I have too many windows open so I don't want to stress it too much. I'll just work on making little things that might come in handy later.

I figure an abundance of detail isn't hugely necessary on little props like these, so I've kept them pretty simple, for now anyways. I'm going to attempt something a little more ambitious for my next trick.

Wow looks good Beebs! You may want to resize that roof texture... Photoshop it so that the tiles are smaller, but with the same gradient. I know you can do it, you photoshop master you. xD

Maybe I'll find a use for this and the others I've made somewhere in my lotting. Still got a few details to throw in there and the textures need a bit of work but I like how its turned out. These little projects are actually kinda fun. I'll have to remember to do more of them when my PC returns from the brink of death. 3.gif

Yikes, sorry to hear about the computer troubles - hope things get worked out fast and easily!

Great roof texture on this last house 4.gif

You've already seen the top one, I know.. the bottom one is new though! 3.gif

Any suggestions? I'm going to make a few more versions of these and then upload them all as props or something. Others can make much better use of them on lots than I can. 3.gif

madhatter106: Indeed.. I'm anxious to get my desktop back.

jacqulina: Thanks jacky! Congrats on your trixies as well. 9.gif

    Interchange: Thanks!

Deathtoall: Heh, I'm just trying to bide my time until my desktop returns. I have so much I want to make but don't risk it on this rickity old thing. 15.gif Thanks!

    Gn_leugim: Thank you!

Looking good for simple little props. You might want to make some variations of the roof texture though, that will have a lot to do with how the individual ones interact as far as the color schemes go. Just change the saturation and hue to satisfy your every whim, or just photoshop that bad boy while you are making the model so it fits based on the other colors already there.

Hope to see your more interesting work soon (not that these aren't good 3.gif )

    -Todd

Since my last house has made its way to the STEX, I've started work on another small guy.. a little bi-level.  I'm not sure how it looks right now though. Looks like way too much roof to me.

Let me know what you think!

Oh! and I should have the little garages and other goodies up in a prop pack in a day or two. 9.gif

The same as ever. 3.gif I'm going to try some different colors for this one.. I'm thinking dark brown with lighter brown trim might be nice. I'm also a little apprehensive to do too much detailing around the windows, aside from what I've got, since it'll most likely be lost in the render.

I shortened the roof down on the back, I also redid a bit of the rooflines at the front. Things were being a little wonky, I think it looks a bit better from the front now.

I'm hoping to have the props up tomorrow sometime.. just a matter of firing up the laptop to pump out a few different colors of each. 4.gif

Wow Beebs, these are really impressive! I didn't even know you could BAT before I looked at these. You've certainly taken your time to make these the best you could make them. Great work, I'm really looking forward to your next update.

One thing that might help for your roofs, is separating the shingles from the roof structure below.

-Right Click on the roof object.

    -Convert to>Editable Poly

-In the right pane menu, select the icon that is a red square (face selection) in the "Selection" rollout.  It's to the right of the vertex selection, and the line selection.

-Select the tops of your roof object (the area that would actually be shingles).

-In the right pane menu, find the "Detach" button.  After clicking it, click ok on the new window, and it will take your selection and detach it from the current object.

-Now make a new material in the material editor.  Make the material a white color or something, and apply it to the bottom part of the roof.  Then reapply the shingle texture to the top part of the roof.

And you should get something like this picture, with the shingles and the white (or whatever color you make it) structure underneath.

    it's nice little house.

my only problem with it would it's sizer. It ain't little at all (assuming that this is a zoom5).

another little oddity is that you porch is way more elevated then your interior space.

It look like people have to come up to porch and them down into the house -  a bit odd solution. Reminds me about metro station in Beijing. there it is a (rather rediculous) measure against accidental flooding of the metro system. Porch itself (for visual balance) prolly need another column on the right side.

I wonder about placement of such a house on teh lot. What I mean is that the balk of the house is facing the neigbours. In real like often those naigbours would be as close as 2 meters... THat makes it a bit controversioal design that doesn't capitalise on the free space infront of house but insetad opening bulk of wall space (and hence possible windows) into that potentially narrow passage.

Haha, yes I have it scaled up a fair bit. Worry not! 3.gif

SimFox: An elevated/depressed entranceway isn't completely uncommon here.. I've seen a few houses in my area that have a similar sorta setup. While the house I'm basing this off doesn't specifically call for, it does make sense in its plans to make that revision if one wanted. I see what you mean about the columns though, I'll throw another one in there after.

In your second point, I'm a little confused.. could you elaborate a little?

    Jacky: Thanks, jacky!

Gn_leugim: Hmm I'll have to explore this a bit.. thanks!

Francis90b: Thank you! Haha and don't worry it'll be scaled now a bunch. 3.gif

Looks good. You could maybe scale it up a little but I woudln't take it too far. In SC4 houses are generally smaller.

Yeah, my webhost seems to have gone down again. They should hope that it returns promptly. 30.gif

In the meantime, I'll have to use imageshack again.. finally got back to the Bi-level house, I've readjusted the roof to make it more accurate to what you can find in real life (around here, anyways). A few windows on the sides, and this guys coming along nicely. I'm optimistic that I can have the modelling done for this by the end of the week!

    bilevel3y.jpg

spa: Yeah, I ended up taking it up a smidge.. it was pretty small in comparison to even SC4 houses.

    Francis90b: Thank you!

    edmonton_stinks: See above. 3.gif
