What happen to the trees?

I'm building a city, that have trees an empty spaces and at buildings, like the army base and the space port. Now it's at 2043 and i notice something very bad. All the trees that i plant at building are disappear!! Only the trees at empty spaces are still around. Why?

The trees in the game are timed, so once they've grown to the max they die and regrow. That is only for Maxis ones and one set of tree's on the STEX.
