Okay, here's the story.

I've decided to move into the twenty-first century and buy myself an iPod for Xmas… 25.gif

"wow… a teenager that doesn’t know how to work an iPods… lol??" - No not quite, they only arrived here in Australia last week along with the automobile, the refrigerator and Windows 95.*

It's one of those new Ipod touch things. Believe it or not I've never actually owned any sort of MP3 player before (I've been relying on my CD collection up until now) so I need to know... where do you get music from?

I look on the box and read about this iTunes store (which is run by Apple right)... I had a look yesterday and they wanted to charge me $25+ for a year’s membership. Yea right. 22.gif

What are the alternatives? I need to know what the cheapest, fastest and overall highest quality online music stores are. There's got to be some really good sites out there right? Where do all you guys purchase your music?

1000. 39.gif

[MP3's on Amazon.com]

All you have to do is download the lightweight Amazon MP3 downloader first (it'll tell you when and how to do it), and you can get your share of high-quality, DRM-free MP3's for no more than 99 cents per song (they do come cheaper sometimes, and full album purchases often-times are less than buying each song individually).  Amazon assures that the songs work on virtually all MP3 players (including  iPods), but I've only downloaded songs for my Zune.  You do need to sign up for an Amazon account (obviously), but it requires no money other than what you pay for the songs...and of course, Amazon.com is a site you can trust with credit card info.

Speaking of which, don't feel bad about arriving late to the MP3 party.  I did too; I got my very first MP3 player (my Zune) at the beginning of this year; before that, it was c.d.'s for me.

By the way...you shouldn't have to pay a $25.00 membership fee for iTunes.  At least, I never did back when I actually used the iTunes store.

One more thing...congrats on 1000 posts!  I would say "about time," but you have a higher post-per-day average than I do 3.gif!

<EDIT> You can download currently popular albums like Coldplay's "Viva la Vida" or T.I.'s "Paper Trails" for only $5.00 on Amazon.com [right here].

I have no knowledge of, and cannot point you to, Limewire. It's just wrong and illegal and the lawyers will hunt you down and eat your children if you ever were to do such a bad bad thing.

You simply must pay the record labels every dime they have coming, as they have so many fine artists and lawyers and suit-wearing sharks to pay, and cocaine to buy for the hookers so many of these fine upstanding people demand. Shame on any of us who would revolt against the status quo. What an awful rotten idea, that p2p stuff. It's getting so a band can't make $100 million on tour anymore.

So I guess you're left with Wal-mart.com, at 88¢ per song.

Yea, I had another look and it seems that you're right. I must have come across a scam site or something, or maybe I just didn't know what I was looking for at the time.

I remember a big pink download button with simply 'iTunes download' written on it, there were about three other links on that same page that re-directed me to another page where they wanted some sort of membership fee. It looked fairly professional - I mean it was decked out with all the Apple graphics, but when I go to the actual iTunes download page it all looks a little different.

Anyway, I had a look again this morning and can't find that page again. 22.gif

Thanks to Masochist by the way, all of that was very helpful.

Manticorefan, arrrrr. Of course I already know about torrenting and p2p etc. I'm just trying to look at all the available options before I start downloading. Beautifully delivered sarcasm btw, that's probably the only reason Zeldagis here didn't kick your ass for advocating piracy.

Piracy? You mean the Somali Revenue Sharing industry? Oh, wait... I know what you mean. Hmm. If only I could get an eyepatch to match these shoes.

But seriously, they're going to stop suing people over it, and go after the ISPs now. [link]

Heard about that lol  This is why I download music from itunes...15% because I want to support the industry and blah blah blah...the other 85% so I don't have to dive into my emergency funds to dig myself out of a hole...heh sounds like something the government would do but ANYHOW...

If you're getting some kind of website that you need a browser for to use itunes I can guarantee you it's fake...you just download and install itunes and there should be a "link" on the left that connects you right to the itunes store...

Though if you go to the Apple official website there is an online store...but that's for downloading software and purchasing hardware (ipods, macs, etc.) and the like, not for music or movies or apps or whatever else is in itunes 3.gif

    Keep calm and take photographs.
