Help I lost my city.

Ive been working on a city for a very very very long time!

I finally just got it moving and downloaded a couple of new things for it.  While i was saving it, my computer froze and i had to ctrl alt delete just to get it finished.  while i did this, the city started flashing and everything went bad.

now when i go to play it, my city is not there and it just shows up as the purple grid lines.

does this have anything to do with the demand caps that i had downloaded? the financial lady kept popping up saying it had been turned on.

HOW DO I

A more descriptive topic title will get better response.

Dear lord, how on earth did you manage to make so many duplicate posts?

In regards to the question, could you spare a screenshot?

So you started 114 topics that say the same thing? Next time, remember that the EDIT POST button at the bottom of the page is helpful.  And what demand things did you turn on? could you be more specific?

Congratulations! You just beat the record for the most unintended duplicate posts on ST to date!

Now ignoring the forum glitch, I'll focus on the thread's question.

Could you post a screenshot of your problem so we can see what exactly it looks like?

i know what your talking about Tadd, the same thing happend to me.

as i'm assuming your region has a hole in it where that city tile was like this (this is what happend to my city)

Unfortunately, your city is gone and there is nothing you can do about it, it is just a glitch in the game that occurs when "all the stars and planets allign". that is why you should really backup your region to prevent things like this and to counter them when they do occur. sorry about your city, but it is gone for good.

Please read the rules for posting in the forums, notably the one refering to image sizes.

i believe he is saying he downloaded the stuff before he played the game, and while he was saving, it froze. saving can take a while, especially with a large and detailed city.i would never cltr alt delete when sc is saving, this is what messed it up. generally, and this is generous amount of time, if it doesnt finish the save in 10 minutes max, then close it. but beware, you will lose your city.

on a side note about backing the region up, i do this weekly, therefore as to not lose a ton of work.

i keep backups on a rolling year cycle.

And the thing i downloaded right before everything went bad was the Radical Ordinance V2.0

So, when i started playing, i turned these things on to get my demand up.  Later i went to save and thats when it all happened.......     : (

So heres the pic, and any ideas for help???

If when you click on the space where the city was and nothing pops up, then you have lost the city. There is no way to recover a corrupted file.

If the city file is still in the region folder, you can try to import it into a new region, if that works then you can import it back to the origional region.

I hate to break it to you... but its gone. The best thing to do would be to get the hole out of your region by exporting the city, then re-terraform the city tile, and rebuild the city on that tile.

    Hi,

If you are using Vista you might want to try using the Shadow Copy function.  If you are using one of the Home series of Vista products then it works and might be able to be retrieved.  Microsoft have enabled the functionality but have hidden it.  See this web page for more information on how it works and how you can get the file back...
