General design question.

I've been playing this game for a little bit now and reading things on this site, and I'm still kind of baffled by something. I've noticed several people say something along the lines of building residence and commercial in one city, and building all industrial in the next city over. Does this really work? I've tried this with the region that I'm working on now, and it works ok, but it doesn't seem to work enough. The demand in my residence/commercial city is sky high for industrial and the people seem to keep screaming for it. I don't really want to build any in that city, but it seems like I almost have to.

Anybody?

Well, dirty industry and agricultural industry will always have high demand, so don't worry about it.

    Well should I make an entire city of residential and one of commercial? I had started with one that was mainly residential, but put in a few little commercial areas here and there, but not really anything major.

    if you have room put the commercial in with the residential, as much as you can anyway

    as soon as a sim crosses to another city tile their commute becomes long, even if they live on the border of one city and their place of work is the border of the next city

    ultimately it boils down to your personal preference, but whatever you do try to keep dirty/manufacturing industry away from residential and commercial areas, high tech isnt a problem as there are only a few HT lots that actually produce any pollution (to my knowledge)

    i have a question,but i'm not sure were to post this i have trouble with the all green education radius

    that can get very chaotic for me is there a modd or anyone that can make one that changes it to say one color

    for elm schools one for high schools and so on?
