Ageing population

Hi everyone. Currently in school, I take a world issues class and we just finished our unit on population. During the unit we talked about the effects of an ageing population on a country and it was all very interesting. So, this weekned I was playing SimCity, and the cities is a based on a comuter town, where there are practically no jobs- only residential. Well anyway, I go to check my stats, and notice that the majority of my population is getting older and and just messing everything up. And I  would hope to see more children in the city but no. Less than 1000 children are in the city, and most of the schools (there are about 7) have about no kids. The largest has a population of 13kids. So what might I do to encourage young people- I wish there ordiances for this type of thing LOL! Hhahahaha

Thanks a lot!

As my Wolrd Issues teacher would say, this is a Stage 5 of the DTM(Demographic Transistion Model)

World Issues Class...in high school?!

World issues, yeah, that sounds like skills needed for the university.

Anyway, you are asking for ordinances helping to get rid of old HUMANS?

Sounds a little bit harsh don't you think?

This is what you can do to help avoid an elderly created depression: 1) zone more residential zones and allow more people (that will most likely be younger in age) into your city.

2) Remove most of the hospitals in your city, or at least cut back funding for those hospitals. With the lack of help, seniors will have a better chance of dieing sooner.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the original post on this. My cities will stagnate after about 60 years because 70% of my population is over age 50. I noticed younger people will move into suburbs and medium-high density apartment buildings within the city. That's about it. It's unfortunate right?

I find it funny.

You zone for Sims to build buildings and live in those buildings, then you dislike how they decide to live and were.

Look on the bright side: at least they aren't rioting and causing damage.

What is cool, though, is how SC4 classifies what type of people and where. SimCity 3000 Unlimited (what I am currently playing) doesn't do this, even if it wanted to.

I don't think having a strictly R$$$ pop allows for a younger population within the game. I assume from your description that your land value is pretty high and your population is mostly R$$$. It might not make sense that R$$$ aren't making kids like everyone else, but I think by default in sc4, R$$$ sims are generally older and have far less young children per house/building. You'd probably see a lot more young people if you had more R$ R$$.

But what are you trying to do, when old people start "messing things up"? Boost population? Unfortunately I have a feeling once your land value is extremely high for all res zones, only old people who can afford it will move in. I'd just call it the town for retired folks, bulldoze the extra schools and move to the next tile to try again 3.gif (make a more diverse population base next time)

If would be nice if we knew the population of your city. Are the job slocated in another city?

Basically, the quickest/easiest way to bring young people back to your city is by creating JOBS! and plenty of them (in your employment city). When someone graduates high school or college, they want to live in a place not only with a good lifestyle, but a place where they can easily find good-paying jobs according to their skills. In turn, these people will start a family, have children, and the children will replace whoever dies off.
