Problem Rendering Regions

Okay, yes, the Mapp Squad Leader has a problem. Here's what I do to render a region.

1. Open SC4 and create a new region.

2. Hit Ctrl + Shift + Alt + R and navigate to my .bmp or .jpg file.

3. I hit okay and then I get this picture:

Your

Now, tell me why I can't make a region any size I want? What's with this? Do I need a custom config? Seriously, I am really getting frusterated because I can't make my maps to scale, it always asks me to change the demensions. HELP, this is the problem I'm having and this is why I'm not releasing any maps recently. 30.gif

How could you not know how to do this yet???? You're our leader!

The map has to be, well, how should I put this.... proportional to its config.bmp file. For example:

1281x1281 greyscales translate into a 20x20 config.bmp
2048x2048 greyscales translate into a 32x32 config.bmp
4096x4096 greyscales translate into a 64x64 config.bmp

You have need to have a 961x961 greyscale image in order to fit on the region that you're using, as it appears in the picture. You will either need to resize the config.bmp file, or make the greyscale image a square and with dimensions of 961x961. Either way, you will have to cut off at least a small portion of your map.

I hope this helps, but really, you're our leader and don't know how to do this? I can't beleive it.

The closest working dimensions to your map are 961 x 641.

That's 16 x 10 for a config.bmp

Keep in mind that you will still need to resize your map to 961 x 641.

I'll explain it better so you can understand it. A config of 1 x 1 needs to have a map of 65 x 65. A config of 1 x 2 needs to have a map of 65 x 129. A config of 2 x 3 needs to have a map of 129 x 193. A config of 3 x 5 needs to have a map of 193 x 321. Seeing the pattern here? To get the width of your map (in pixels), you multiply your config.bmp width by 64 and add one. To get the height, you multiply your config.bmp height by 64 and add one.

And, it works the other way. If you want to find the width for a custom config.bmp, subtract one from the width of your map and divide by 64. If it doesn't divide to a whole number, you need to adjust your map's width so that when you subtract 1 and divide by 64, it DOE divide to a whole number. And do the same to get the height of your config.bmp...

I hope that's not TOO confusing.

See here, see here. I am your leader yes, yes. But, to my all honesty, you guys are better Map Makers than me. I just wanted to help get this team up off the ground and get it going...That is really why I did it. I really like maps and I someday really want to make good ones, but as of now I really am not that great of a map maker. Sorry guys. 41.gif

I know! 29.gif Take your time and some time you will be a great map maker!

Regardless, you HAVE in fact done a wonderful job getting the squad to where it is. I don't think any of this would have been possible without you, TNS. 48.gif

Besides, we don't need you as a mapmaker, we've got plenty of those. We value your leadership and organisation, and always remember that! Hopefully your config.bmp issues have been solved.
