I think the terrain is nice but the region is too small. Is that one large city tile?

Looks like a good base for a new city. Good luck on this, or maybe we should get you to turn your ways and stop the insanity or insults. You will have nothing to show f this does not wor. Also, what is the neighboring city, I see a highway going to the west, I wonder.............

lol, ya alot is on the line, i will take my time...

This is just a city, no region.

I am making this in an old region of mine i abandoned, and the highway is comming from a neighboor city where the demand is not at 0, so that i dont have to struggle with all that stuff, since i allready did in the neighboor city.

Also, for my city i will not make like huge zones just for commercial and then residential, becouse i like to have it all mixed together, but only the industrial will be separate ofcourse....

Also this is my first time on a large map since my computer is pretty crappy, you can see that i only worked on medium sized maps in my other journals..

OK

I added some of the main transportation in the city.

/idealbb/files/2106.jpg

/idealbb/files/381.jpg

Here will be an area with more commercial zoned, i just have to hope that skyscrapers will develop here more and instead of  somethere else.
/idealbb/files/1207.jpg

This is close to the mountain, and it will be a protected area of no development since it is a rich forest with fresh air comming from the mountain, only a few low density house will be available for famous people, so rich people will live in this area.
/idealbb/files/453.jpg

This will be an area where i want to put industries, it is perfect for seaports and railway. It will also be close to the commercial district so things can be shiped around alot easier and it will not be expensive for transportation.
/idealbb/files/533.jpg

This is close to the commercial district so it will mostly be residential but i also zone some commercial since i like them to both go together. There will also be some low residential but mostly medium. Oh and dont forget maybe a few beaches.
/idealbb/files/635.jpg

The area above the highway is the preserved forest, and below it there will be a blend of commercial and residential, also on the shore i will place some beaches.
/idealbb/files/727.jpg

There are still more terrain to be zoned on but im not sure what will be zoned on it so i will do that later, but now i have to start the development.

OK

Here are the very fist developments........

Ive added elevated trains all over the map and some subways connecting them. I added a Big Learning facility as you can see in the following picture....
/idealbb/files/1209.jpg

The first industries move in the city bringing tons of jobs and high demand for residential
/idealbb/files/2108.jpg

And heres a picture of the firsy developments, you can see the industrial area in a perfect spot, it will be close to commercial zones so the demand will increase in the area. Also those new residential zones will expand to the right, and i will also add farms soon.

OK

More expansions!

The city has grown more to the right and took up the entire shore, now i will have to jump over the river to expand more!

Here some pictures

Becouse of the new industries in the town, more residential zones had to be zoned to supply the demand. This formed around the highway in order for better access to transportation. Also some small farms have developed when some sims wanted to start their own business. Also a golf course was build to attract more rich sims in the area.
/idealbb/files/455.jpg

More farm development.
/idealbb/files/535.jpg

Oh!, more farms poping everywhere, grain storers were made all over becouse of the increased demand for food.
/idealbb/files/636.jpg

View of the town
/idealbb/files/728.jpg

Another view of the city more to the right.
/idealbb/files/822.jpg

Soooo i know it looks bad now, but it will look alot betetr when the entire map is taken over. Not just a small part.
So i will get working on more zoning

Please tell me what you think

I third that motion. You have a pretty good layout, but I think with some streets and roads it would look all the better.  It just doesn't look natural with all the avenues.  Keep up the good work.

Noooooooooo i love avenues. I hate roads<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/14.gif>, they are too small and they create too much traffic.
I allways use alot of avenues like that becouse they are way better, but when you have roads everything looks tooo crowded and its like everything is on top of each other. But when you have avenues they separate the city blocks and you can see wats there.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/16.gif>

Well i guess ill have to use less avenues now in the future developments.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/15.gif>

Tons of avenues is unrealistic! In real life no city would put so many avenues in one city. the cost would be to huge. Sorry but so far you get a 4/10.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/23.gif>

I do like the terrain and the industrial bay though.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/1.gif>

    Ok watever

Its kinda late now, cuz while u were posting iwas working on the city, but when i start working later i will take away avenues only at future developments.

    Heres some new stuff

This area i plan to make a nice little downtown with office buildings. And yes i nkow!!!! lots of avenues!!!!!!
    /idealbb/files/1225.jpg

Heres a close up, you can see it is only in the early stage, i hope soon some skyscrapers will pop up.
    /idealbb/files/2109.jpg

Here i spread out more, hmmmmmm ya it looks really bad, i'll try to get some medium and high density in this area....
    /idealbb/files/384.jpg

And heres a close up, yaaa it looks like a bad neighboor hood hahahahahaaha...
    /idealbb/files/456.jpg

Oh! here it developed a bit more, cuz i added some medium density... srry for the quality, but the limit is 150kb
    /idealbb/files/536.jpg

Ummm, oh ya and here it is also more developed, i donno i like my university and place around it...
    /idealbb/files/637.jpg

Yet now this is a newly developed area, i am trying to make it with a handfull of highrise buildings.
    /idealbb/files/729.jpg

Now this is a closeup of a hightech area of the industrial corner.
    /idealbb/files/823.jpg

YAY! a picture of the industrial place, i love this dirty and smelly place.
    /idealbb/files/919.jpg

I took this picture so that i can see the comparison of how it is now and how the downtown will be later......ah look at the nice mountain, looks so inviting.
    /idealbb/files/1016.jpg

Ya this is just a picture now
    /idealbb/files/11100.jpg

Finaly! last picture for 2day!, this is a pic of what i have done in 2 days!

Looks pretty good. The design is good but kill the avenues. They are a mayor problem in my opinion. One more tip, if you have enough demand for farming still, try demolishing a few of the huge steel mills and they could pop up others. Just a few tips, looks like progress.

Oooh I like the avenue look. I'm not familiar with the repercussions of having all avenues, and it may not be realistic, but hell, I think it looks pretty sleek. 4.gif

(Edit: neglected to put realistic in quotes)

Really nice Valadimir, although I don't like prebuilt networks, and I don't like the way you've put one commercial building per block, but still nice.

Whats wrong with the avenues? It seems some people who are replying to this thread are being unrealistic in their view of them. In some parts of the world avenues are commonly used in low density suburban areas. Although I would have to say, unless you are atttempting to create a metropolis packed with stage 8 buildings, then reduce the number of highways.

Yo man, i have my own style of building, if you look around almost evryone has the same style, i dont do that. Also cities are packed with mass transport.

AND since the normal roads are only 2 lanes that would be unrealistic, since where i live almost 90% of the roads all all 4 lanes, and they are not even considered avenues, avenues are wider, but since in simcity 4 its like that, its the only thing i can do......

Also its not one commercial buildoing per block, there are more like 2 or 4.

    hey valadimir is right.

i live in a city filled with avenues.

the only reason you guys think it's unrealistic (oh no, the r word!), is because avenues in SC4 always have a median and are always 4 lanes.

the avenue west of me (Ball - just the street name) is a 4-laner with no median.  instead it has a middle lane used for turning into driveways.
then there are avenues east of me (Broadway and Lincoln).  Broadway is a 4-laner just like Ball, but Lincoln is a 6-laner with a median.  if you go even further there are plenty more avenues.  there are avenues to the north of me, there are avenues to the south of me.  Even though you may not realize it, there are avenues everywhere.  Every busy street in New York is an avenue.  it may not have the median, but that doesn't make it any less of an avenue.

so in fact, with valadimir's usage of avenues in his proposed downtown, he is the one being realistic (oh no, i said the r word again.  please don't flame me...  hehe).  the only reason you say otherwise is the fact that SC4 is not to scale, has limited network options, and looks too perfect.  there are a lot of ugly streets here.  not every avenue is a nice, pretty work of landscape.  in fact, most are very ugly.

so stop accusing him of non-realism, because he is absolutely right.  with the game's limited options you really can't make a realistic looking city.  real city governments would go broke paying for the landscaping of those avenues.  not to mention the watering cost to keep that green alive.  that's why you only see medians or greenbelts in high commercial areas.

for the first time i say

    <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif>valadimir is right<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif>

    ok, i'm done.

    no wait,

valadimir - the reason the avenues are as small as they are is because Maxis bases most of it's material from California because they are stationed in CA.  in CA, everthing is so compact and roads are smaller.  so it may not be realistic for you, but it's realistic for me.  they can't please everyone.  if they tried, it would be very confusing.

Yeah, come to think of it, most cities DO have these 4-lane roads crisscrossing town (like where I live). But it could use some side streets hanging off those avenues! But, keep up the good work!24.gif

Well in your downtown, you should make some of the avenues two one way's next to each other. It would be more realistic, and provide more capacity. But the fact is, you have a LOT more avenues than normal roads, which is deinately unrealistic (at least where I am from). Here in Philly, we got a LOT more avenues in the suburbsan areas (such as Northeast Philly) then downtown, anyway.

Well, besides the avenue issue, which I agree with everyone here, your city looks real nice.  I personally don't like to preplan whole cities like you did, but the outcome here looks nice.  Everything looks very neat, and, planned.  This, again, looks good at the cost of realism.

One advise from me:  Make it bigger!<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>

wait, are you talking about they California. The one with 12lane freeways and where six or more lane avenues aren't uncommon. I speak mainly of the San Fransisco and L.A. freeways and the suburban areas of Northern California. I don't think it's right to say that Maxis made eeverything smaller because things are smaller in California. I think Maxis just didn't have time or money to make the roads more accurate (they probably based SC4's roads off of SC3000's roads to some extent).
