Downloading Regions

Can somebody help point me in the right direction on how to download regions that users make? I was cruising the ST-Exchange and saw some neat looking maps that users have made that I would like to build on. I thought I found one thread that kind of explained it but it did not work for me. Thanks!

Well, to get access to custom made regions you need to have downloaded Sim City 4 Mapper found here https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=179

I have posted this all over the place! here is a region making tutorial:

First - go into simcity and click the create new region , it doesn't matter the terrain.

after thats done - go into paint and decide how large you want your region to be...

a large city is 4x4 pixels of blue(make sure your using paint for this part.)

a medium city is 2x2 pixels of green.

a small city is 1x1 pixels of red.heres an example of the maxis "sna fransisco"region:

(moderators:this is a bitmap... but it is so small that jpeg-ing it would kinda ruin it - I can try if you want.)

well... sorry for its very small size - it is as its original.

after filling this in - check to see the resolution of your config file , then save it as "config.bmp"and it should be a 24 bit bitmap(that is very important).

then try going to photshop or the gimp(gimp link below)

then create a new greyscale jpeg image and size it like this(this is important)

multiply the resolutionof your config.bmp file(width and hight separetly)by 64 and add one , this should be you jpeg resolution.

create the jpeg however you want(the darker the color , the lower the elevation).

save it when your done.

then go back into simcity.

load another region and reload your new one to get simcity to use the new config file.

press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R and select your new jpeg image in the menu that pops up.

if you did everything right - it takes several minutes - but simcity will start creating your region.
