What are some insane buildings/structures you've seen?

I'd have to say this thing:

f_12229371103m_ba80fdb.jpg

I know it's by Ingels, but I don't know the name or location of the building. It's pretty nuts. I wonder what would happen if an earthquake hit? then again, if the towers are truly joined, they might hold themselves together during a quake or some other disaster? Nor am I sure how they put elevators into it... maybe they used curved elevators? It's possible.

I did some research on the W building, it's a proposed building "complex" in Prague, CZ called the Walter Towers.

I always thought these two were simply just bizarre:

Osaka Dome by Dr.Rek on Flickr

Osaka Dome, which to me will always look like a gigantic chicken pot pie.  This is a baseball stadium...look at the size of those baseballs!  I'm guessing they double as natural gas storage tanks.

Aoyama Technical College by arjaeboi on Flickr

Aoyama Technical College, Tokyo.  It's not just a building...it's a Transformer!

    Or perhaps a wrecked Gundam.

Robot Building, Bank of Asia, Bangkok

Okay, the giant robot thing is starting to get out of hand!

London Met University Graduate Centre is pretty funky.

The new Canary Wharf Crossrail Station (will be called Isle of Dogs Station) looks like a sunken space ship.

Thats all I can think of at the moment.

how about the Denver Art Museum (to conform to the current trend of the thread):

    20061012_denverartmuseum.jpg

Actually, for insanity per se, I would suggest that building a 1,800' tower in the middle of a desert with ample land and low land value during and through a global real-estate crash is about the most insane thing you could do. In that respect, I would say a long list of buildings in Dubai and the Middle east as a whole top this list.

Though, perhaps the land reclamation projects were more 'insane' given the above imperatives.

david1314: I think the building you're referring to is either the Burj Dubai or the Al Burj. The Burj Dubai being my favorite I think it being the most insane props to the A-rabs!!! Haha! The Walt Disney Concert Hall is pretty cool especially for how old it is, they say if you drop a pin inside the concert hall everyone can hear it. I tried it on a field trip one day. Myth Confirmed alert the myth busters!

When I see the Denver Art Museum flying overhead i will forever be changed. xD

Some of these buildings actually pretty cool despite their...eccentric designs. sometimes eccentric can be marvelous. 4.gif

Yeah. I really like of Gehry's work with the exception of the dancing house. The London Met Uni Crad Centre  and the Canary Wharf station Tonks posted are pretty neat, too.

And while we're on the topic of intentionally screwed up buildings:

All the cracks and holes are actually just windows. 2.gif

The Dancing House is really really the most stupidest thing ever. There is some really col buildings here - but I must say the The Dancing House is seriously complete garbage and the only thing I think Frank was trying to do was to make a joke out of his celebrity andfame and see what kind of crap he could convince people to believe as art or something. Its the dumbest building ever ever ever!

    I love coffee and buildings.

I actually like the first one quite a bit. The second one, however, no comment 3.gif

Is the first one a court? And who designed it?

Here's my contribution, although frankly it looks quite tame compared to some of these others.

    House%20in%20the%20clouds.jpg

The 'House in the Clouds', Thorpeness, UK. Unlike mose other insane buildings it actually has a 'quaint britishness' feel to it (notice the red phone box.)  What's even more weird is that it used to be a water tower. Of course why ruin a quaint holiday village with a big ugly water tower when you can build this? 1.gif

By the way if you want a version of it to put in your cities, click here. <-- Sorry for shamelessly plugging my own BAT.

That last one is actually kind of cool, although I think somthing like that would be better suited in the middle of downtown that all alone away from the skyscrapers.
