The ads looked good.

HellasCJ4.jpg

And the maps have a deceptive way of making it seem "wetter" than it actually is.

HellasCJ2.jpg

But the Little Elephant Trading Company was determined to expand on Mars and the areologists having discovered a gravitic anomoly that probably signaled the presence of valuable heavy metals had called A. U.  Korsair out to do an extraction feasibility study.  There are no roads into Terby  which is a tiny colonial outpost, the only settlement in the Hellas Region.

And a look at the region:

    Hell_SOverview1.jpg

I am using THL's Low Desert Mod for the terrain.

The immigration restrictions turn out to be not so lax as advertised.  Even tourists and business travelers are being detained and prevented from departing the colony. I decide to stay here and model the problem in SimMars.

An overlay locates the mining interest.  The areologists are calling the anomaly a "gravity volcano" and implying that it may be an unstable feature capable of 'erupting'.

    Hell_SOverview2.jpg

Early modeling suggests that the first 'man' on Mars will be a transgendered person (and that e will eventually end up owning e's own iBots franchise in a medium size city in the Maxisland Region).

    MSTut1.jpg

Works with color, too.  Just change the name when you place the character in game, otherwise you have to rewrite the .dat file (also included) which is advanced modding - very technical.

A team of scientists is gathered in Sekhata Aru, Maxisland, at the top secret Secret Research Company.  Here the Little Elephant's custom BATs are tested before being subjected to the rigors of the actual simulated martian environment.  Some of the team are human; some are cybernetic; and some, like the Ek Chuah, are artificial.

    Maxisland-1221358024.jpg

In other news:  Talks ensued in Timagodh (the capitol of Maxisland) about the possibility of replacing the advisors.

    AdvisorsProb.jpg

We are open to suggestions as to how that might be done.

The group of scientists and explorers finally depart for their date with simulated destiny.

    SimiconValley-May31271221360226.jpg

I decided to run the simulation in the SimMars Beta with a few mods.  On approaching the planet the ship passes over the still unsettled Kasei Valley (included in the beta).  This is an astonishingly detailed map with only just a little too much vertical exaggeration.

    Kasei.jpg

The THL Sandy Desert Mod gives this map character that was totally not evident with the way too red terrain texture that comes with the beta.

    Dramatic1.jpg

    Dramatic2.jpg

My pre-beta rendered region of Hell_S loaded just fine. The Mars beta brought in its own rock mod so certain things changed about my region view.  I like it.

    Hell_S-1221864254.jpg

The town of Terby has been settled for 21 years.  It is the center of colonial activity in the East Basin and has a permanent population of over 1500.  This town pays for itself.

    Terby-Sep13221221861200.jpg

My first group of BATs is lotted up as a self-sustaining colonial farm and exploration hub.

    Terby-Feb24201221860871.jpg

    Terby-Nov25061221859660.jpg

The so-called Venus of Terby is one of many  naturally occurring copper globules found in craters and believed to be the remnants of meteors.

    TerbySoccerPark.jpg

    JerodsHole-May7221221865764.jpg

Early success at growing farms is greeted with great cheer as some of the beta farms are rather dark and industrial.

    JerodsHole-Dec2211221865233.jpg

A smaller nearby community suffers from what appears to be rampant corruption as the sliders in this city (power station, police, and fire) all adjust themselves downward to the detriment primarily of industrial development.  Rolling blackouts and strikes are frustratingly common.

    JerodsHole-May4211221864904.jpg

The fire truck came to the fire but made no effort to keep the farm from burning.

    IquusaWeatherStation-Jan52212218669.jpg

There is a new weather station at Iquusa, another small settlement.

Alot has happened on Mars.  The region of Hell_S was destroyed by my whim when I discovered a better heightmap at USGS.  Cyclones, rising in the heart of the great desert swept most of the town of Terby away.  The new region has been overall more agreeable.

    Terby5.jpg

Barsoom is the main residential district in a city of 17,000.  It began as an agricultural community and still supports several profitable farms.

    Terby6.jpg

My underground farm fields may eventually have a surprising side-effect.

    Terby4.jpg

I like subways so I built my own stations for Mars.  Named after the legendary hero created by Edgar Rice Burroughs they are glassed over park-spaces.

    Terby3.jpg

    Terby-Oct282312.jpg

Here the center of Terby is seen, with the Hospital, High School, and Fire Station, boxed in by my main parks and a small museum.  All of this has spurred interest in development of some more city infrastructure.

    Terby8.jpg

High wealth residents (a few) have finally brought the first of my commercial lots to the region.

    Terby2.jpg

Next time we'll take a look at the new weather station, and the proposed hydrologic research center.

Terby by 2060 had pretty much topped out for growth - without trains industry refused to develop so I built train stations.

In Terby itself development tended toward business and passenger service.

    Terby-2060.jpg

Joyful Tears Station is in the Canal Street area and is intended to raise middle-class population. The little green space is a community garden.

    Terby-2060_6.jpg

Jewel-like planter cases highlight the new civic plaza with its swimming pool, library and subway connection.  The Curia Ares or city hall is just out of view at the bottom, The Trikuti Plaza is crafted from enormous jade boulders.

    Terby-2060_2.jpg

The new business district, 101ville, came as quite a surprise.

    Terby-2060_4.jpg

The city has built a new power plant.

    Terby-2060_1.jpg

And the Hydrologic Research Institute has been founded at Iquusa in the Canal Zone Natural Park.  I meant to get a shot of the majestic canyon but the HRI was dwarfed to nothing.  This functions as a city college in the game.

    Terby-2060_3.jpg

In re: Little Elephant - the city is planning to extend the new rail lines through the Invisible Mountain area to link up with agricultural communities in the south.  So far LE HeavyMetal lots are not occuring in the industrial development pattern, so mining may not begin soon.

    Hellas2060.jpg

Unified Rail is the name of the regional transit co-operative.

Haha this is cool, I wish I noticed this CJ earlier.

I love the pool and gardens, a sure sign the place is growing beyond just a dusty trade center

The Hell_S region has surpassed 200,000 people and officially declares itself a Territory.  This entails the election of a governor and the introduction of psuedo-military police mobile units.

    FortBradbury-Jul14281225914625.jpg

The completed railroad is shown in the folowing regional views.  The Western Trunk Road connects the agricultural Hellespontes region with the industrial east.

    Hellas961.jpg

The new farm fields give a festive psychedelic look to the countryside.

    Niqab2.jpg

Although I think the SkyFarm series is too aggressive I've let it run wild in some areas.

    Niqab1.jpg

Also in this region is the Canals of Mars Canyons Natural Park, a great natural wonder of ice and mist.

    Hellespontes.jpg

In the Eastern or Prometheii Terre region wildcat miners have begun tentative operations in the area of Goldrush mining mostly lighter metals and phosphates.

    Hellas908.jpg

The Little Elephant has imported a smaller, more manueverable miner and wildcatters are springing up all over.

Much work is being done on the SimMars project by several different people. I have been so busy I could only post this one pic and I don't count it as an actual update.

Part 2 of what's turning into Update i!_7

Terby has a new cemetery, of which more later.

    TerbyCemetery.jpg

A radical-conservative stylistic separatist movement known as the Bolshoi Gaì or "geex" ( G§ ) mounted an attempted coups d'etat and in the process destroyed the new City Hall.  The rebels were put down with some simulated loss of life which necessitated the digging of simulated mass graves and building of memorials; Mai Selfh, the new governor, after conceding the rebels point about the limitations of Geometry, immediately constructed a newer, better facility - the Cravey Building - which will be part of a proposed Regional Government Complex.

"This has made Us once again aware of disturbing deficiencies in the beta and We have called for an interplanetary AI to coordinate economic development."   Mai Selfh,  2125

    Terby-Oct11.jpg

Plans are underway to completely redo the downtown with new BATs such as inflatable GroBot planters from iBots and high-density residential.  Unidad Solar (US1 - the proposed AI) will be housed in a new Courthouse called Pax y Securidad.
