The old city hall BAT has been recycled and the Governor's College of Civic Administration is now open in Jessup's Hole.  I believe this will help fuel middle-class expansion.

    JessupsHole-Aug2450.jpg

Cemeteries like the one in the lower left corner (behind the new Food Mart) are as common now in the Hellas Region as are APDs, the ambulatory police divisions that help maintain order along the frontier.

iBot is expanding into the region with new GroBot superstores and a slick new ad campaign.

And a proposal has been put forward to construct an airport for the balloon ships.

On up the road we come to GoldRush.

    i!_8

    GoldRush2.jpg

That little blue plus sign is how Selma Jules writes e's name. Art persons are artificial persons; sometimes biological in origin but sometimes also mechanical without a so-called living component.  They have the same simulated rights as all other simulated beings. I placed Diana Rinse, another 'Art' person, in Rooks Tower near the beautiful new stadium and e instantly got rich and moved out.

The Grand Terminus is nearly complete.  The South has been marked as the element of Air with a pair of golden banners but 'Art Punks' - those bastards who sneak around messing up the sweet geometry of things - have been throwing caustic bombs and paint at the bronze-leafed ceramic dome, disrupting construction. The only other element marked is Water with red banners to the East.

    GoldRush3.jpg

How GoldRush got its name -

    GoldRush44.jpg

And the new Saorglatabhas farms demonstrate an innovative method of confining salt waste from water recovery - using it as a building material.

South of Hellas is the region of Pau. The county seat is Changha, a city of 50,000 sims.

    ColorfulChangha1.jpg

Changha is noted for its brightly colored buildings. The first Oro Theatre and the first Himawari Kimono Store were built here.

    Changha8.jpg

The new Mayor statue adds a certain flare to the shopping and entertainment district.

    Changha9.jpg

A new University in nearby Blue Mountain is the first of its kind in Hellas. The freight balloon is clearly in violation of flight path restrictions.

    BlueMountain3.jpg

The first mines have been opened in the Invisible Mountain region on the Little Elephant claim.  Early results look very promising for mining but processing facilities have still not appeared in the area.  Several experimental lots have been tested without success.

Next time, we'll take a look at the changes in Terby since the Governors injunction against known terra-ist PEG SkyFarms. Here's a teaser -

Some cities have not faired well.

Nice region. But the only thing I'm not all right is have bespin tower towering all those martian space trailers and cube homes. And there is less tall buildings. Try downloading on sim board. They have a-lot of nice downloads for simmars and for the earthain simcity. Try looking in my CJ. You will see buildings that match the surrounding buildings and taller buildings. Go to the simcity exchange. The simcity 4 one and sign up if you haven't. Then search for mars and click on whatever fits with Simmars. And don't be afraid using racial oridances in the modds and downloads section or tab. You will have better results with your colonies. Why do you see my cities having sky high buildings and high-wealth buildings and a population of 400,000 colonists in my cities? By the way, add a replies box. This shows readers and repliers that you actually want them to read on more and ask you more on how to do things.

You should just post ideas whenever they occur to you without waiting for polls - I will gladly bend the story to suit any reasonable suggestions. I don't use a lot of mods as my play style favors slower development rather than extensive advance planning. If you'll notice, my region population is at 600,000 and I have no air or sea ports. If you recall I had to do the train stations myself; and am only now looking at building a highway system. The airports I had have all failed because I tweaked the beta2 and the project director made me put it back the way it was. Also, in my opinion the PEG Sky Farm lots are a cheat as they seem to dramatically increase tax revenues and satisfy disproportionate job demand. The removal of these two elements is an economic disaster in some areas but Terby once again has bounced back; I am even able to end the Subsidy (money cheat) and expand the Landmark Downtown.

I wont even bother to comment - let the changes speak for themselves. When we came to Mars Terby was a city of tinfoil; look at it now - rammed earth, tile, polished salt.  121,000 simulated citizens simulate living and working in this the premier city of the Southern Hemisphere.

hhmmm... your train station is transit enabled. Mine isn't show me how you do this. BTW did you upload the BATs at the SMEX? I have my final factory in the SMEX. its less boxy and a bit improved than before. Also I followed your tips for BATing with boolean, the results are great! I did something like yours at the BAT workshop. Also, your city looks nice. Just need more war like buildings. Mechs and warships would do.

Also, you might want to take out the city info thing out. Just click on the square thing on the bottom left. It takes out all the menus and all that when you are taking a picture. And hold down Control+Shift+S. This allows you to take pictures or better yet a shortcut.

I love how truly martian your city looks - great choice of buildings for the 'downtown' part - and great colors, mostly yellows, reds, browns golds etc. And the buildings look suitably 'alien'. Very impressive.

Strange reports have come in of unrest elsewhere on Mars.

    FortBradbury66.jpg

The Hellas State Troopers have been called up to Fort Bradbury and all media reports are being censored. Reliable sources suggest it may have to do with the recent events on Earth involving the terra-ist threat to melt the Martian South Polar ice cap in an attempt to force the terraforming issue.

    FortBradbury16.jpg

The Governor, Mai Selph, has ordered the construction of a landmark fortress to guard the main rail line into the Hellas region from SimNation.

    FortBradbury78.jpg

Satellite photos show a large squad of Armored Airborne leaving for an unknown destination in the north.

Most of them now, you pretty much have to download them in mediafire or in the SMEX. Only two of my buildings currently you might see on Tim's CJ. Yes I BAT but he dresses them and looks very pleasing! Getting back to this, you might want to continue the war thing, mabey add some from the japanese BATers. They make goroegous BATs for Mars and space in gernral.

Although preparations for Mars' defense continue, the war itself may have been averted by the explosive debate over immigration reform and the arrival of a UN force to supervise the building of the space elevator. An air force of sorts has been developed with armored personnel carriers, air-defense missiles and laser and railgun assault vehicles.

    CyprusRock2.jpg

    CyprusRock4.jpg

The local authorities have also hurried along the construction of a space station, Bayou_20eu, using the infrastructure from one of the great immigration ships.  It is defended by a ring of satellite mounted railguns and serves as Mars official connection to interplanetary trade.

    Bay5.jpg

    Bay3.jpg

The arrival of the UN frigate Sakebi was signalled by a dangerously close fly-by of downtown Terby.  This was intended to reassure the resistance movement that their concerns would be addressed and that Earth was on the side of liberty and diversity (although they do not tacitly endorse the emancipation of Art Persons).

    Sakebi708.jpg

Along with the Sakebi, troops arrived on planet to establish the first peacekeeping bases.

    Masjidkhan.jpg

    TuuthaPoint508.jpg

And automated manufacture of the Taxman fighter has begun in the industrial cities of the Eastern Hellas Basin.

    Droid4aAnimation1.gif

Despite the presence of an international force, the debate over immigration and the insistance by some of an English- only policy led some citizens to strike off on their own and form a new colony in the Niger Valley region.

    Vrin.jpg

Changes like these do not come easy and I should mention that the history of Hell_S is pocked with unmentioned atrocities. When it was suspicioned that the SkyFarms were dominating agricultural industry and hurting development, all but one of PEG's lots was destroyed and agriculture in the colony had to begin again almost from nothing.  Less drastic but no less significant were the pogroms aimed at Little Elephant's mining operations, some lots of which were suspected of being the heaviest polluters and also (like PEG) of having too high employment (How do 1009 people fit into one Miner rig? Maybe they take turns?)

More shocking was the recent Dao House Massacres.  Because of the invasive nature of the lot more than 30,000 sims had their residency terminated - as much as a quarter of the population in some cities - for no other reason than that they had poor taste in architecture.

I was wondering if my colony could save yours or a war I guess? Both martian colonies in one, that would be cool. Think of it being the planet offer in Cities XL where I could give your unemployed workers jobs in my colonies. Would that work for you?

Jacky - Thank you. I always appreciate your visits.

Petrovar - Most of the BATs in this CJ are being custom made by me. They will be in the next SimMars beta release. If you follow our work in the SimMars forum on Simtropolis you will see numerous links to works in progress which you are welcome to try out but remember that most have not been modded to be fully functional yet. Unless you're interested in helping to test these lots (which can be a pain in the ___) then I would suggest waiting for the Beta release.

    E - Bring it on!

I may have spoken too soon. Reconnaisence pictures from the South Polar region show that, in fact, the terra-ists have been busy there experimenting with genetically modified strains of lichen designed to thrive in the icy conditions. If these experiments succeed the results could be far worse than many anticipate.

    NewCity.jpg

Why, you may ask, am I so opposed to terraforming?  The terraist propaganda looks very appealing.

    TFMars.jpg

But a closer look at the facts reveals that many colonies have been established below the proposed new Sea Level.  Hell_S is built at the lowest elevation on Mars - initially because this provided the best opportunity for finding life on Mars since the air pressure at this altitude is normally high enough to allow for liquid water at the surface.  Early claims by terraformists insisted that only a moderate amount of surface water would ever collect in any given basin but scientists at the Mayor's College have released a more accurate prediction of what would happen if both polar ice caps were melted and air pressure and temperature rose high enough to release the frozen seas hidden beneath the Martian sands.

In this projection one can clearly see that the Hellas Basin would be filled to it's ancient shoreline and almost the entire city of Terby would be inundated.

    TerbyFlood1.jpg

Here is an artist's conception of Terby after the catastrophe.

    TerbyFlood.jpg

Gold Rush and Changha would suffer similar fates, as would colonies in the Kasei and Mariner Valleys, Chryse Basin and Utopia Planitia.  Almost half the Northern hemisphere could potentially be flooded.
