Ugh.

With the SecuROM DRM crap at it's core...  is EA killing it's own computer gaming division???

I bought Spore but I haven't opened it yet, nor am I planing to for a week or so.  I might even return.  SInce EA owns Sim City..  are we to expect something similar in future releases??

SC4RH...  not going anywhere.

Keep up the good work modders.

Don't worry, I don't think there will be a serious future release of SimCity...

Btw, shouldn't that be put into the Gaming Talk?

Yea, maybe it should be moved...  but the question is the same.

SCS looked aweful and now I am looking at the Wii version for a try, but Cities XL is interesting.

But the whole EA thing for PC gaming is making weary.

Yeah, I guess most hopes lie on Cities XL now... although what I've seen from SC Creator doesn't look too bad, but I don't want to play SimCity on a console. You can never have the same complexity on a console.

Well what some people are doing is buying the game and then downloading Spore from a torrent site.  That way they payed for it, but they don't get any of that SecuROM crap on their computers.

Yea.. and lots of people are straight up pirating it. I read an article about massive player backlash. I am waiting to see how it pans out.

Now, a question: a so called "torrent" version... can it be updated and played online.. or basically you must play with a non-internet enabled p.c. or what?

if you install it on OSX then you don't need a disk. Do you need one with windows?

A bit stupid. Why download the warez copy and risk legal action when all they need do is grab a fixed exe from one of the well known game burning/copying outlets?

DRM aside, Spore is a terrible game. For years we've seen demonstration after demonstration about the game, and alot of the hype and anticipation for the game was generatated largely from those. Unfortuanately what appeared was a watered down, tedious, over simplified pile of crap reminicent of a bargain bucket Disney title. The blood, gone. The comical humping, gone. The underwater stage, gone. The ability to have underwater cities, gone. The first stage is boring and repetative. the 2nd stage is boring and repetative. The civ stage is like some retarded wannabe RTS only it fails on an epic scale at being anywhere near as interesting as even the most uninteresting RTS, is boring and repetative. And the space stage? Thats the biggest yet worst of them all. Do yourself a favour, when and if you ever reach the space stage, call it a day. Its like playing Command and Conquer with 1 tank to defend all your bases against a miriad of enemies that just dont like you. And if you do manage to survive a few days and still have any interest in the game at all, the Grox are sure to kill off any last hope you had of conquering the galaxy.

Its looking to be perhaps the most pirated game ever, mostly spurred on by the constant rantings about DRM, but at least those who downloaded it illegaly wont be sorely dissapointed by realising they were just ripped off yet again. Personaly I expected more from a Maxis title. Next time Will, dont bother.

nope. I don't think securom is compatible with osx. I probably could have put some kind of protection on but they didn't.

The thing that bugs me is how the program writes itself into the core programming and practically irremovable unless you do a complete delete/reinstall.

Is this avoided on the mac?

You don't need the disk inserted for windows versions either. That was suppose to be the whole point of secuRom, however, I would much rather sacrifice the convience of no disk verses having to call up EA every time I want to install it past the 3 allowed.

We only need enjoy one day at a time.

Totally, and people who know how to make ISO files have been enjoying not using the disc for years anyways.

Well, I installed it last night and finally got to play.

So far it is fun, but the graphics are somewhat childish, but the gameplay is good. I liked the Cell stage and I am now in Creature stage.

I think Will has run into a problem here. He's already made the landmark series The Sims and SimCity. And that has set the bar for his creations over the top. And if a new game of his (like spore) doesn't meet expectations, you're going to have a lot of unhappy gamers. EA didn't help by plastering the DRM onto it.

No wonder why some third party game creators are moving away from PC games.

The whole DRM was invented because of pirates. Now they (game companies) are trying hard at this battle but many have left for Consoles.

Anyways, I played this game for two days and became really bored. Some phases are really boring or short and some animals make my stomach hurt, I just want to vomit. Thanks godness I have sold this game to my cousing, for the original price.

    Im dissapointed.

Well.... all the b.s. and problems aside. I am enjoying this game. Go figure. Maybe in a year or two.. when the game is properly patched and a few expansions or more like.. things taken out are put back into the game, it will be good.

Here is a link to a thread I have going there.. http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/0/8862.page#99491..

I want to take this opportunity to tell people NOT TO BUY THIS TERRIBLE GAME. sobol, you might enjoy this game now, but you will grow tired of it quite quickly as it does not offer much. I did too once, until I got to the space stage. The worst moments of gaming history can be summed up in this one stage. Basically, try to list all the things you hate about a game and space delivers. Every 5 seconds you are bothered with boring missions which do not give you any returns and require you to literally stop expanding your empire. You know something is wrong with a game when it forces you not to have fun. There is also the issue of a serious lack of automation, even for the most mind-nummingly simple tasks as selling spice (the way of making money- boring, basically makes you fly from place to place looking for the most inflated prices to sell your goods at- boring as hell), and the game punishes you for exploring and expanding. To sum it up all in two words: Total Fail.

Actually there is a way to enjoy the space stage. Hit control shift c on the keyboard and type in more money! it will give you 1,000,000 Sporebucks that way you can make economic captures and expand your empire! You will earn lost of rewards from badges and get weapons easily! That way you can beat the crap out of every living empire that dislikes you! Dont declare war on the grox though! Ally them! Sure every other empire in the galaxy will declare war on you! BUT the grox have thousands of colonies! ITS WORTH IT!

But then you get the "Joker" badge.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Spore is pretty good. I agree it was not as awesome as it could of been, however, I still play it often. In fact, I'd probably be playing it right now if it wasn't for all the good users getting banned for minor offenses. The Galactic Adventures expansion pack actuallly makes the space stage worth trying, and you can make your own missions for others to play. GA really got me back into the game for a long while. Along with SC4, it is probably the game I have played the most. BTW, if anyone is interested, my current account is GalacticGodWee (Look it up on the Sporepedia.)

Edit: I forgot to add, but the new patches are great. I have never had any problems with limited numbers of installs or the DRM.
