This list should help you with deciding what stuff you should download first. This list includes links to all custom content listed here. This list does not contain nearly as much stuff as the STEX collections DVD, and you may want to consider donating to Simtropolis to obtain the DVDs. This list is for those who do not wish to donate to Simtropolis or do not have the specifications needed (like a DVD player) to use it. Mac users can use Filejuicer to extract files from EXE files when needed, and can be downloaded here. Please note you can use the trial version or buy it, though some may provide another download for mac users. Umm... am I starting to sound like an infomercial? I think I am, so I think I'll shut my mouth and just go on. 30.gif But one last thing... BSC items (jeronij, simgoober, dedgren, kevdan25, dedwoods) may contain an excessive amount of dependancies, so make sure you get them or don't download their lots at all. I'll shut up now. 22.gif

Essential Files (You NEED these... seriously)

These files are from Maxis and should work. There are no guarantees, though. To get these files, you'll need a product-registered account on the SC4 website.Custom Airport Packs

Network Modifications

Terrain and Water Modifications

Top Uploaders

You may also want to download some custom content from the top uploaders listed above.

These links will open in new windows/tabs so this link remains open while you do your STEX shopping. As this list expands, you may need an account at other websites. To register at SC4D's LEX, click here. I offer no support for any of the mods, BATs and lots listed here. Should there be a problem in any of the mods, lots or BATs, do not ask me for help. Some STEX search pages may be unavailable and may not be repairable, so you may need to search for the content manually.

Installation of Plugins

  1. First of all, make sure you have all dependencies, should there be any at all.
  2. Extract the plugin.
  3. If there is a README file, read it. It should tell you how to install the plugin.

  4. If there is no README file or it doesn't explain how to install it, move the plugins to My Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins

Installation of Maps

Oh, err... some instructions can be found here.

@un1: the list will be updated as soon as possible. also, this list can apply to anyone in this community, new or old, maybe in between, wanting to make a CJ but probably don't have enough realistic content, which is why i decided to post this list here

the list has been updated. Update #1 adds the DATpacker, SC4Terraformer, hole digging lots, and more. iLive has NOT been added to the list as it is only for modders interested in releasing mods or modded custom content to the STEX. feel free to add any suggestions to add to this list. not all suggestions will be added.

    When suggesting custom content...

    • Make sure it is high quality. If not, make sure it serves a good enough purpose in the game. For example, the money lots listed here
    • Make sure what you're suggesting is compatible with custom stuff already listed here.
    • Make sure anyone can use it for their own personal use. iLive isn't a good example of this, since some people don't know how to use it. The BAT would be another example.
    Thank you.

As a (very picky) BAT collector with a plugin folder around 3.5 gigs, I would like to recommend particular styles of BATs and their creators that I find exceptional. I think this would be helpful for people trying to create areas with a certain "feel" by adding a whole new "tileset" (throwback to older SimCities). However, I think this would only be for people comfortable with downloading many BATs, but, at the same time, I think its worth it.

Anyway, I'll start with 3 categories:

Asian/ Hong Kong style: By Bixel & HKBAT team

    strattonhkjun2349112013bc7.jpg

    European/ Paris style: By Porkissimo

    strattonhalljul30682120bm9.jpg

Low welth urban/ NYC style: Goofyguytpa

    strattongutternightaptsja8.jpg

Maybe ill add more depending on what you think, and I hope this isn't too big a suggestion!

You may want to add the realistic water mod is not compatible with PEG water mods either.

    Good luck.

Geez, you've left out almost everything by the BSC. I would suggest the BSC parks series and any compatable lots that fit in. Plus the CAL/SG canals are a really nice set too.

I'd suggest yet another thing, SimGoobers Module Commercial Packes. PM me or any BSC member for more information.

the CP terrain mods were NOT added to the list due to an incompatibility with the snow-capped mountains mod. quote>

The CP terrain mods have a snow capped mod of their own included,

All the Simgoober uploads on the STEX are outdated. They have all been updated and are available on the LEX at SC4Devotion together with is new works.

And they contain lots of dependencies so you'd better remove them from the list.  Can't have people doing a little work to download some top quality content.20.gif

this is a very good idea! great way to easy and quick find what youre looking for, super for all new members of the forum.. however, it is really hard to cover all areas of the stex so this should be very basic and showing only the best and most needed stuff to be able to play. If not it might just be as hard trying to find something here as anywhere else. Cred to simmaster for the effort!
