Hey Folks

been to simcity.com recently and with all the news with the simcity box and titledmill working on a new game and the new simcity creator i think its a safe bet SCS was made just to keep the simcity name alive, sorry if this has been said already but lets look at the facts here

A. Simcity creator going back to traditional SC gameplay with RCI and looks more like simcity  game over SCS. It reminds me of sc3000 but still unrealstic (kinda hate the wii)

B. Simcity Box is having to inc SC4 Which states the most realstic city simulator in exsistance (as we all know) but SCS clearly to weak to sell alone which makes me laugh SC4 still being promoted by EA a 5 year old game!! so it kinda proves EA know SCS sucks

C. really think it was just EA bad attempt to keep the simcity name alive, I think its a safe bet we see a SC5 a true sequel one day myself...more so now i seen sc creator, think spores has really messed and slowed things up unfortunatly

SimCity Creator is on a completely different and less powerful platform. The traditional gameplay has already proven to work just fine on a more basic system. The SimCity name wasn't so dead that it needed a pc-game to revive it on the way to a console game.

Is having to include? Are you kidding me? It is a bestselling game that's still in demand years after release. You'd have to be a complete moron not to try and monetize that. Tell me, have EA ever slacked when it came to finding ways to make money? Thought not. This box deal would have happened even if SCS had sold like hotcakes.

Spore's messed up how? It's been the main Maxis focus for years. It's not a minor side project they took on before hurrying back to the city builder genre.

I don't think he meant Spore itself was messed up, but that Maxis spent so much time and effort on Spore that the SimCity series was sort of tossed to the side for others to pick up...and so "Spore messed and slowed things up."

Right, if EA wants to keep SimCity alive and make money, why don't they create a massive update that allows SC4 to use muti cores, more types of OS and graphic card, allow mod programs to edit the hard coded parts of the game, and fix some of the major program bugs.

Then EA will make more money, and keep SimCity alive.

SCC isn't a true SimCity game. It has SC3000 graphics (yuck), ment to build a city quickly unrealistly and destroy it (boring), has only THREE different types of skyscrapers in the game(massive repeative building problems), you can get skyscrapers by reaching over 20,000 population (has anyone ever heard a 20,000 population town getting skyscrapers?), and the zoning is based on SC3000 zoning.

EA basicly used SC3000 to create SCC, and SCC can only be played on Wii and DS.

I know. My point was that there was no guarantee of a grand new Will Wright city builder after SC4 at all, and that there was nothing much that got tossed to the side in favour of Spore. Spore was what there was, and what was going to get worked on.

Because that would require massively retooling the game for gains that will never justify the cost? It's still a five year old game underneath.

There's no way that spending time, ie money, on altering SC4 is going to make them more money then just re-releasing the original.

Hold on now. If they used SC3000 for SCC and SCC isn't a true SimCity game, then you're saying that SC3000 wasn't a true SimCity game. And that just doesn't make sense.

ok yes i know the old game been proven to work i think 4 sequels proved that!! just saying the fact they've gone back to it means EA finally relised this!!

and I KNOW SC4 BEST SELLING!! this is why they have to sell SCS with it!! thats what i mean jez!!! calm down mate

and yeah! i didnt meant spores is a mess i meant the production time has caused maxis to put simcity on the back bench, spores was susposed to be out ages ago! and suspect maxis woulda been working on the new simcity now if spores didnt take so long

not really impressed how rude you are considering your a moderator! read what i said next time! sorry if im not good at explaining myself very well! i suffer from bad dislexia but there was no need to be a big headed know it all simcity fan! i been playing it since 1989 prob before you were born!

    I'll go in alphabetical order.

    A. I kind of like the direction SCC is taking even if it's a bit underwhelming graphically. It's definitely not a true SimCity game, but it could be a nice, little distraction before they announce a proper sequel.

    B. The SC Box is just a way to get skeptics to buy SCS for a relatively cheap price, but I don't see the point in the combo pack. SC4 was one of the best-selling PC games of 2007... 4 years after its initial release! And SCS did sell alright, not great, but not horribly.

    C. Yeah, perhaps EA definitely hurt the SimCity franchise with Societies and I don't see Creator doing much to help, and having Spore being delayed and perfected didn't help SimCity at all. Spore is probably 99% complete now so Maxis and Will Wright should have to start brainstorming about a future SimCity. Not that the Spore delays were bad or anything... because Spore will be amazing and we can't have Maxis release an unfinished game.

How much memory space is needed for the Sim City Box?

    Only in Simcity Societies!

Here's what I find interesting. The information page for the Simcity Box describes Simcity 4 as:

"The most detailed, realistic city simulation in existence. Create, control and immerse yourself in city building at its best, building massive gleaming metropolises or dreadful urban nightmares."

It seems like the person who wrote this likes SC4 a lot. Meanwhile here is the description of Simcity Societies:

"From futuristic metropolises and fantastical haunted cities to obedient authoritarian states and devout contemplative towns - what kind of city to create is up to you."

Sums up what we already know about the game but doesn't embellish it in the same way. So it looks like even the EA staff are losing confidence in Societies. 29.gif

I don't have a high opinion of the Simcity Box. First of all, I have most of the content in it anyway. Secondly, the only way to get the Destinations expansion for SCS is to buy the whole box so EA can squeeze another $20 out of you.

Putting Destinations in the Simcity Box is a kind of insurance for sales. Example -- a person buys the box, and hates SCS and it's expansion, but loves SC4. Naturally, the person would keep the box and not return it.

Lastly, the Simcity hardcore are perplexed over the reason for buying the Box. However, I can think of a niche for it. Suppose a newcomer to the city-building genre couldn't decide if he wanted the complexity of SC4, or another "Simcity" game such as SCS or SCC. He wouldn't want to dish out a total of $50 for the three games. But he can buy the Simcity Box for $20 and see which one he likes for the price of one.

Just a hypothetical situation. I don't think that it's a big niche to fill, but it is a way that the Box can get a trickle of revenue.

The SimCity Box also has the that little puzzle game called SnapCity, which to buy separately is $10. I've played SnapCity before (on a broken demo that didn't know how long 60mins is). It's not even worth it.
