But I do feel like Simtrop. needs a big project of its own. Because there are no projects that I really follow over here, they all seem to be at SC4D.quote>

That seems to be the general consensus here.

I'll admit that SC4D is a lot more organized than ST at the moment, and of course it would be, that's got nothing to do with the members here or on SC4D. It's a lot smaller, a lot younger and hasn't had any recent problems with its forums software like ST has.

And yea, SC4D dose have all of the major projects at the moment because of the split (most of the talented modders chose to move over to SC4D for their own reasons), but we shouldn't totally discredit good ol' Simtrop! Personally I think that some of the most skilled and creative BATers can still be found active here and uploading to the STEX. We may not have many big things going on here at the moment, but we've still got good stuff coming out of here.>3.gif>

Yes they can still be found here, but they don't really have an project threads over here. I know that there are some great BATers who still make Simtrop. their homesite, but we don't have many. But at least they are still here!

I also feel that there aren't that many new BATers coming to simtropolis. Its a shame really. (Well any new BATers that seem to have a bright future)
I hope this changes, and soon.

I do kind of think that many of the issues that boiled over had been simmering for some time. In late 2005 when I joined things felt more uptight around here than they do now. Today moderators seem more friendly and creators seem to be more approachable.

and FWIW Devotions is a great site that provides a good atmosphere for projects and game-related things.

It's just that  the awesome critical mass that ST once had is gone and things may never be the same. Who knows though, maybe someday things will change

I see. So most of the drama really was people getting wound up about petty reasons. (Sorry it took me so long to reply. Summer school, summer job, and dismal short-term memory kept peeling me away from thinking about finally posting a reply here.)

And that's good news that I've heard about things starting to chill down. But as for those people who won't come back to ST, I can sympathize with how they feel. I've had a similar "I don't want to associate with this person at all" grudge that I once held against someone for a bit of Internet drama that unfolded between me and two other people. It was more or less worked out when I asked myself the question, "What's the point in it all?"

So yeah. I can sympathize with them, but it is pointless that they're holding such petty grudges. As for SC4D, I don't know if I'd really be able to do much at the site. I have severely limited modding and game mechanics and BATting knowledge compared to a lot of the people here and there. All I have are ideas, but not the skill to make them reality.

And I need to get a burst of off-topic-ness out of my system before I go insane... Holy crap! o.O This is the first time ever since I became a member here that a forum thread that I started has gone into two pages and has had responses from well-known members and moderators. I feel so speshuuuullll!! ^^

*clears throat* Sorry 'bout that. ^^; Okay, now that that's over with...

One thing I've noticed time and again regarding these kinds of nuclear chain reactions is lack of communication. I know it sounds like some cheesy psychologist tagline, but it's true. A lot of the issues I've had with friends were because the parties involved (including me) would let things simmer instead of just bite the bullet and spit it out. That kinda stuff simmers until it finally reaches a breaking point, and when it does... it ain't pretty... and it almost always ends in severely hurt feelings and egos.

Yes, we do have a few BATers over here. As hamish said, not many, but we do have them.

I'm a newbie when it comes to BATing and modelling. I have found, however, that my talent seems to lie in BAT signmaking. A couple examples are in my CJ, Franklin County.

Lastly, I agree that ST needs a project of it's own comparable to the ones at SC4D. The custom content section has been kind of dry for the past few years.

Well this is a topic that has affected everyone.  I am glad someone had the guts to ask "Why?" after all this time.

About ST needing a project of its own, I don't think ST needs one.  I think this site has established itself as more of a "Fan" site while SC4D is more of "Development" site.

Many members consider Simtropolis their "main" account, and SC4D their "secondary" account for this reason.  They can see their favorite projects develop at SC4D and show them in action here.

Of course, ST can also be a "Development" site and SC4D a "Fan" site, but thats a matter of opinion.  Any way you slice it,  its still the same pie.

    Best,

The reasons were obviously important to the people who made those decisions (and those decisions were theirs to make), and they may have been made for reasons other than you think or other than you have heard. I don't think it really helps anything to judge another person's reasons or to label them petty or grudges, as there is a very good chance in most cases that they are neither. Ultimately the choice a person makes as to what sites they will visit, be a member of or participate in is their choice alone. I think its better to respect and accept those decisions, and that the reasons for those decisions would have been important to those who made them.

Basically correct. ST gets a big slice, SC4D gets another bg slice, and the rest of the slices are the other SC4 sites.

Many members consider Simtropolis their "main" account, and SC4D their "secondary" account for this reason.quote>

So do I. The proof is in my post count there and here. My ST posts are well over 600. My SC4D posts are under 100.

ST doesn't "really" need a project of it's own, but it would be nice, wouldn't it 4.gif.

    I suppose that's a matter of opinion.

To tell you the truth, I wouldn't care where the NAM is developed; As long as I get it, I'm fine.

(The above post was written from the point of view of someone who actually still plays SC4 >.< )
