Here is my version of the San Diego Coronado Bay Bridge.

And my version, in order to get it to join in both places correctly I had to make the short leg the long one & visa versa.  But you get the idea...

The real one is amazing. I don't think I've seen a bridge like that before.

Yours..... well it's limited by Sim City.

Well, compared to the maps you've given, your version is pretty darn accurate in terms of transit networks. Good work.

    Keep it up.

the bridge looks better than anything i've been able to do with this terrain - unfortunately a road isn't going to have the capacity of the real bridge, so i hope there's a lot of jobs from the air base  1.gif

looking good with things filling in.

True, but right now there are only 600-800 residents living in Coronado, but only half full.   In the mornings and afternoons, do you think there is usually a high amount of slow going traffic using the bridge?  It would seem to me the rich people would live on Coronado and then commute into downtown to the skyrises.

Here's a downtown progress overview update.  Posting close-up pictures wouldn't do San Diego due justice at this point in the simulation.  Right now it's about 80% R$, 10% R$$, and 10% R$$$.

the biggest thing coronado gets traffic from is military traffic inbound, as far as i've noticed.  (i haven't driven the bridge at rush hour in a while)  i've never actually seen a slowdown on it.  the big traffic problems in SD aren't really on your map, with the exceptions of the 163/5 connection and 805 south of the 94.  (5/805, and 163/15 are the two worst crunches usually, but they're both cut or almost cut on your map.)

as far as people that work downtown there's a lot of $$$ residential getting built right now, two projects i know of, plus emerald towers, a bunch in the east village near petco have been approved.  i think it's 3200 units in the next 2 years are opening up there, and most are $500,000+ for a condo.

downtown san diego, according to an article a few weeks ago in the Union-Tribune, has a little problem where there isn't much office demand in highrises, most businesses see it as a waste of money compared to an office in kearny villa, miramar, or mission valley.  people want to live in the nicer areas though, so outside of hotels, most of the downtown highrises here are mostly residential.

the biggest traffic crunch i see into downtown is usually weekend nights, since downtown is more nightclubs and hotels than office towers.  san diego's a tourism-based city.  please, visit with cash.  1.gif

I have lived in SD for about 4 years now, and i know the coastal areas and downtown really well, so if you need any questions answered about those areas, let me know.
Your road layouts are really accurate. We have some pretty screwy roads, so its not too easy to duplcate in simcity.
I did noticed that my area of town isnt listed on your map. I live in Ocean Beach which is just north of Point Loma where the 8 ends at the ocean. Also I think most of the roads in OB go either north-south or east-west. I dont think there are any that go diagonal, but since i see all those streets from the street level and not from the air, maybe i am off 2.gif
Also, the new ballpark downtown is now open and is amazing!!!! Its one of the nicest staduims i have ever seen and it makes our other one (qualcomm stadium) look very ghetto. 1.gif One thing to note is that they changed a bunch of the roads downtown to accomodate the ballpark, so some roads like 5th ave which were once all one way now have sections that are two way. confusses the crap out of me when i go downtown.

Do you plan on creating some of the local buildings in the BAT (like the new ballpark)? if so, need any help?
If I created the coronado brigde in the BAT which curved like the real one, is there any way to make the transit system use the curve properly? i know how to run a straight road thru a lot, but im not sure if you can curve it.

Again..great job! i love seeing my favorite city being created for simcity, and i really curious how the simulator deals with the mess of roads SD has once you start zoning.

OB actually is a perfect grid, but it's lined up at a 45 degree angle.

and make a BAT petco park!  i'll download it!  25.gif

I've never even made a lot, let alone created one from scratch with the BAT.  Little time as there is 'n all.  I've been learning that the surrounding areas to the east of San Diego aren't very nice at all, and would be considered the slums.  Would I be correct in thinking the South Park area is more middle-class?

So the first landmark I've completed is the Coronado Golf Course which you come to right as you come off the Coronado Bay Bridge.

great job with the golf course, south park/logan heights/barrio logan are all R$ and (at most) R$$ neighborhoods.  middle class, but not the kind of neighborhood most suburbanites would want to get lost in at night.

I did a little research and actually found out that the South Park area has gone through some gentrification and has improved quite a bit over the last several years.  It used to be a lot like Logan Heights but since home values have gone up, owners with more money have moved in and spent the effort needed to restore the neighborhood somewhat.

I went around the web and found a few pictures of homes in the area, I think you will see what I mean.  I am not saying the entire area is like this (of course no one would advertise their crappy looking shack of a home), but I think I'll make it about 60% R$, 25% R$$, and 15% R$$$ (for the Burlingame area of South Park).

South Park isn't a bad neighborhood, I was just trying to convey that while it's improved and not slums, it's not a beautifully master-planned suburban area.  1.gif

Another similar situation would be the North Park/Hillcrest areas, which are both rather nice middle-class neighborhoods, but they still have problems with homeless people and needles laying on the ground.  They're not bad neighborhoods, but they're not idyllic communities either.

As long as I'm posting also, I've been unsure if I should reccomend upgrading El Cajon Blvd/Washington St to an avenue, cause it is a major 6-lane road (at least from I-5 to I-805), with very high traffic volumes, but the speed limit is usually only 35mph, which is closer to a road.

I've finished Logan Heights and it's come out rather nicely.  The right mixture of smog and the denial of education makes R$ prosper while keeping out most R$$ & all of R$$$.  You can see how it gets more pleasant looking north of the 94, nearing Balboa Park.

Thanks, there isn't that much smog there in real life but that was the only way I could get the R$ to not get kicked out by the R$$... I guess SC4 just naturally gentrifies the neighborhoods.

Hey, this deserves some serious praise. I always love seeing places I used to live done well in this game. Especially when I can pick out the major (and some minor) thoroughfares. I must say though, the pictures you took of the South Park homes have way more character than those master planned suburban cookie cutter homes. I used to own one. Nice job.

It was either Joergs Golf Pack , SC Golf pack  , or ArtGolf golf course  .  I have 2 of the three installed, I know one of them is Joergs and it appears in the Hospital menu... that isn't the one... it's the other one that appears at the top of the parks menu.  The filler tile in Joergs looks good too, but it doesn't appear green on the transportation view... which is kind of key for me.  I use Joergs golf course hole's to have a variation with the other though... and that is the story of my golf course set usage. 18.gif

Ugh! I hate it when you start SimCity and they have all the low wealth buildings they're REALLY ugly! Besides, most low wealth buildings aren't THAT ugly. Oh well, I saw the results with San Francisco and I can't wait for the finishing results for this one!

Sorry for the lack of udpates lately.  Here's a few more pictures of Coronado Island.  I've finally gotten it to where I want it to be in terms of simulated development, I just need to add in the military base on the other side of the island.

    /idealbb/files/coronadooverview1.jpg

The area near the boardwalk and car & passenger ferry isn't nearly that built up.. in real life it's just more single houses and there isn't any buildings over 3-4 stories... but I thought the way it I made it looks better, plus I needed places for my R$$$ to live and across the Coronado Bridge (75) is pretty much slumville (pictured below).

Here's a closer up pic of the Hotel Del Coronado area on Coronado and the high rise apartments around it..

Here's the north Coronado Island suburbs near the Sea N Air Golf Course, which will abutt the North Naval Island Air Station.  I sure do love those row homes.

Thanks for the link dave, that helps me out tremendously.

Here's some pics of Coronado Island, to give you the true feel of the city.  Cheapest home for sale there was $665,000 and that was for a condo.  In that skyscraper condo tower south of The Hotel Del Coronado the cheapest is $700k with a bay view, 1 bed 1 bath bachlor pad.

    A few of The Del.

Sorry there hasn't been any updates for the past week or two.  Here's an overview of what I've done so far, and a transportation one as well.  If there are any specific areas (of what I've done) that you'd like to see closer up I'll gather some shots and post them sometime this week.
