well, here's my first attempt at a CJ, it's not as artsy/creative as some of the other ones out there, there is no story to tell, but they are pictures of some cities I've been working on.

Light Harbor

lightharbormay4cp0.jpg

This is one of the commercial districts in this town.

lightharbormay3xj0.jpg

The other commercial center with 50% taller buildings! these are older pictures, some new development has appeared.

lightharbornovzl8.jpg

an island in the harbor, the square shape shows that it was reclaimed for the construction of these exclusive apartments (yeah yeah, they're mid-wealth, but use your imagination)

lightharbormay2xh6.jpg

The neighboring city of Flapton (funny name, I know, if anyone can think of a better name, please post it, I'll change it if the name is good)

Residential apartment development, 4 towers

4towershu6.jpg

New Commercial tower going up near the development

pedrianaconstructionphawy0.jpg

the development is on the right, 2 new commercial buildings on the left

rainbowtowerconstructiolj8.jpg

a beautiful night shot of the area, I love the nightlights on the rainbow tower.

some residential towers, the block is surrounded on all sides by parks

A strip?

Unfortunately, I can't see your pictures. I would like to see your work. Are you by any chance posting in .jpg for pictures?

You need to set the width of your images to 800 x 600 or lower. Also, in the future, please upload in .jpg format. While it is not mandatory, it saves loading time  9.gif

I have just one question, how can I make it so that the image is 800x600 on the forum but links to the full size image? I've seen other users do it but I need some help.

Simply select the image after you place it in the post box then make a hyperlink. (The button that looks like the Earth with a chain link in front of it.) Once the hyperlink box is opened, post the direct link to the image in the box marked URL.

To resize the images, you can use irfanview. (Windows only, I don't know of any free image editors for Macs.)

There are a couple of ways to do it.  If it's an existing picture, you can edit your message, right click the picture in question and choose image properties (or edit image properties, something like that), and change the dimensions to 800x600.  Then, highlight the picture and create a link to wherever the full-sized picture is located.

For new pictures, simply use the "insert image" option in the reply box, choose the image you want to use, and change its size to 800x600 there (then link it to the original, larger size).  Alternatively, you can resize the picture in a photo-editor and save the new size as a copy of the original, upload both, and show the smaller one on the forums while linking it to the larger version.

some non-maxis buildings. the harbourside is a very good bat imo, too bad I couldn't grow it in the lot so I had to plop it.

I see from your images you are using Imageshack.

I also see you're using the thumbnail codes. First, use the DIRECT LINK to the image. It is at the bottom of the page. Use CTRL+C to copy it to your clipboard.

Then, when you make a reply post, click the INSERT/EDIT IMAGE ICON on the top toolbar.

Then use CTRL+V to copy the link to the URL field on the popup. Then put 800 in the width field. Then click on the lock icon. This helps prevent skewing of your image on the site.

    Then click OK.

--THIS IS OPTIONAL BUT I RECOMMEND IT--

Then click on the image in your post. Then click on the hyperlink icon on the top toolbar (the globe). Then just use CTRL+V to copy the link to the URL field. Then click OK.

You now have a 800 x 600 image on the site, with the image linked to the image at actual resolution.

To see an example of this method, check out the Greater Terran Region.  Haljackey uses this method to great effect. I also use it in my CJ's.

I hope this is a good tutorial for you. Notify me of any questions, and good luck with your CJ!

    - Patricius Maximus

EDIT: Guess Masochist beat me to it. Anyway, glad to be of help to you.

    North Entrance

    flaptontunnelnorthentramv3.jpg

A boom in the economy and a new building pops up! 2 actually, the HK Y stack and The Pencil.

    newconstructionofthepentr6.jpg

also, why is it that the forum software poops out a javascript error the first time I try to hyperlink something?

    Update!

We have a problem in my region, look at this city

    Welcome to Azimuth Point

    azimuthpointoverviewdc8.jpg

it provides 280,000 industrial jobs to the region, it's the manufacturing backbone of the entire country! But it's dirty and ugly, what am I supposed to do?

but wait, my troubles don't end there, virtually all of the city is owned by the Azimuth Family, they got the city name changed and they own all of the factories and the workers and the officials.

    azimuthestategk7.jpg

    This is the Azimuth Estate

so how am I supposed to beautify this tile? Turn this dirty industrial wasteland into a gleaming forest of high rises, it borders Light Harbor and it isn't very realistic that high rise condos just drop off and industry begins.

Should I just ignore the family and seize it by eminent domain? does anyone have any ideas? any suggestions on where to start?

toot toot, the custom content train is coming. I downloaded a truckload of custom content over the past few days and I hope they grow in my cities, enough so that everyone is happy.

Does anyone know where I can find djoella industries though?

    Fire in Azimuth Point!

an inferno burns down 30 city blocks in azimuth point after lightning strikes from thunderstorm.

    startch7.jpg

    The fire spreads

    originqq2.jpg

The fire spreads to the Azimuth Estate and surrounding blocks

    estatefirevv2.jpg

A sign of corruption, the fire departments rush to put out the fire in the mansion, but ignore the fires raging across the city.

    corruptionyh5.jpg

Fires in the coal power plant reach coal dust floating in the air and the resulting explosion demolishes the power plant

    coalexplosionnl3.jpg

The fire spreads to 4 other power plants and 2 blocks

    coalfirexy0.jpg

the number dead is not yet confirmed, but this offers a great opportunity for redevelopment of the city.

And now to Kick some life back into this thread

East Bend, a primarily residential, high density section of the sprawling metropolis, aptly named, it is located to the east of West Bend

Just to show something I thought I did well, East River Gardens

    Construction of the First buildings

    eastrivergardensconstrurh8.jpg

Construction of more towers as well as an expansion to the property

    eastrivergardensconstrucx0.jpg

The final result, a set of towers that stretch along the shore and sit on prime waterfront real estate. Crump Towers are the 3 beige buildings on the right. Both of these properties were developed by the same company.

cool cj at the begining it was really repetitive but towards the end we started to see more use of buildings which is good but still fairly repetitive.

i think the industry was a bit overboard and same with the coal power plants. (way too much of them).

but i hope you can improve and show more.

@Fabsies55: Yeah, the industrial city is the general power generating city of the region, I'm going to try and spruce it up and maybe redistribute the power generators across the entire region.

Thanks to everyone else who has commented on my CJ-ish thing
