Opening

Hello, this is my first City Journal on Simtropolis. I've been reading City Journals and other content on Simtropolis since last year July and now it's time to start one of my own. I'm from Holland and I live in the City of Breda in the south. Because I live in Europe my City Journal will also be European.

Kind regards,

Moby a.k.a. Tjeerd

Grote Markt (Big Market, Central Square) and the St. Kruijts Cathedral in the city centre

afbeelding5af3.png

Noorderkwartier, here you see lots of Governmental buildings and other highrise, buildings are all around 90 meters

afbeelding20my0.png

Overview of the city centre, the picture is a bit outdated because there was a lot of construction on the mayor roads in the upper site of the picture (M1 -> A1 and the trumpet interchange to the A20, central axe of the centre)

afbeelding28fa9.png

A more recently taken picture of the reconstructed M1/A1 and A20. The M1/A1 is the connection between Venienda and Palonda, and also the connection between Palonda South (banlieu's), Centre and the Noorderkwartier (with almost 30.000 jobs). Before the reconstuction the congestion here was hopeless.

I hope you like it 4.gif

Dankjewel! Ik vind het alleen jammer van het stukje missende stoep in de hoek, maarja.. dat doet simcity, daar kan ik niks aan doen. But I will continue in English, so it will be understandable for everyone.

Very good start, just one little detail...please upload jpg format images, the current ones that you have (png) are not shown in Internet Explorer, and therefore some users may not be able to see it. Other than that keep up the good work!

    Reply's:

Jacqulina: Thank you for your reply

S_olah: I see.. I see what I can do to change them to .jpeg

Jjune4991: Thank you! I wanted to make a European city, but not Parisian because almost everyone does that. I went for Dutch/German/English

Edmonton_stinks: Well.. Dutch is a hard language to learn, but you can start with: 'Mooie stad heb je gemaakt, ziet er goed uit.' translation: 'Nice city you've made, looks good.'

Anarchy0029: I think you can't see the pics, because the pics are already there.

I will make an update next thing in the morning!

I'm very sorry that I didn't upload new pictures. It's because I had exams. But I will provide you from pictures later this evening. In the meanwhile I can tell that some things really have changed.

    For Palonda:

    - Motorway M5 has been partially tunneled for the expansion of the Noorderkwartier. A convention centre and some midrises where built.

    - New trainstation Palonda Transvaal has been opened in Palonda South-East.

    - Palonda has growed from 145.560 to 180.211.

    - Metroline A has been built. The line runs from station Palonda Zuid-West via Palonda Centraal to station Palonda Noorderkwartier.

Pictures well come tonight in JPEG format 9.gif

    As I promised, an update!

    Update!

In this update, again the capitol Palonda. As I have told in my previous post Palonda has grown very hard. In a very short period the city has growed from 145.560 to 180.211 inhabitants. When the city reached the the number of 175.000 inhabitants.. the mayor thought it was time to construct a Subway/Metro line. The city has lots of traffic problems. The southern beltway for example is jammed every day during rush hours. That's why the new subway line was constructed along the southern beltway and from the south/zuid station to the Noorderkwartier via the city centre.

The city is devided in 6 stadsdelen, also called boroughs in English. In the north, above the river "Zaas", you will find the following stadsdelen:

    - Noord/north (with Noorderkwartier and the former village of Heeze)

    - West/west (mainly residential)

    - Centrum/Centre (old city centre)

    - Oost/east (mainly residential)

Under the river "Zaas" you will find the following stadsdelen:

    - Zuid/south (the so called "banlieu's" of Palonda with lots of commieblocks, but also low density residential)

    - Zaas/zuid (an old rich neighbourhood)

    - The Docks

In the next update I will upload a map with the stadsdelen deviding, subway/heavy rail lines, main roads and motorways. There will also be an update of the village Westbroek. A small village where you can find nice farms 4.gif

As you can see here, the Grote Markt with subway station 'Grote Markt'.

    afbeelding1so2.jpg

Station Palonda Transvaal (you see a typo, I'm sorry for that).

    afbeelding4lb6.jpg

One of the bussiest exits of the city. Connecting the main highway M1 with the southern Beltway.

    afbeelding6mx1.jpg

The commieblocks of Zuid-West with subway-station Vlaanderenstraat.

    afbeelding7zj1.jpg

The expansion of the Noorderkwartier over the highway into the former village of Heeze, the inhabitants weren't that happy with the new officebuildings.

    afbeelding8db1.jpg

Rail interchange connecting three heavily used lines.

    afbeelding11gu5.jpg

The cathedral, the Zaasbridge (M1) and a piece of the Docks.

    afbeelding16bo5.jpg

Well.. that's all for now! Have a nice evening/night. 4.gif

The city looks great, except the commie blocks. But hey, they're not supposed to! Quite authentic looking.

Well, the thing about the commieblocks is that they house a lot of people. It's all zoning 4.gif.

That's Awesome, really love your edges of downtown and the way you blended the city with the lowered highway. I also really liked your historical market area, great road layout! I would suggest putting more trees in the empty areas along the edge of development to hide the corners a bit, just trying to help though. looks really good.

This looks awesome, especially for your first CJ! Believe me, it's much better than how I started. I love how everything blends and fits in, except the offices, though. The three rails just look right, and the quality of the work is amazing! Keep it up Moby, this CJ has alot of potential.
