Hopefully, therefore, we should be able to open up to requests from the users of Simtropolis for features for this game.

I'd be glad to help, I am good with graphics and I could make meshes If you would like. I am also taking c++ tutorials and classes if you would like me to do that. Please consider me, Zenmen5

I know pretty much nothing about web-programing , could I still work on c++ programing?

I am really confused at this point.

Sorry for the inactivity; been focussed on something else...

Anyway, since simmaster07 has left the project, I think we should take a vote on whether to carry on with his idea of making a web version, or revert to the C++ version (or be ambitious and try both, although that would probably be stupid). Please post forward any comments, and they will be taken into account.

I'm waiting to see if anybody has an opinion on which platform to develop the game for. Once we have a firm understanding of what members of the community think, we'll be able to alter the game accordingly. After all, it will be the community who eventually uses the game, so the community should have a big say in its development. The short answer is: no, not yet, but hopefully soon.

DOWNLOADING , definatly , I would rather have one of these , because we can make it larger without having a huge downloading problem , plus you don't have to have the internet up to play.

I will spread the word on this soon... but for now , I am too busy.(what the community thinks.)

OK, 1-0 to C++ (or other local machine language). Any other opinions?

I have created a poll in my blog about this important question , but it is , not surprisingly , not atracting attention , so it will have to be advertized more clearly , you can vote this poll here... PLEASE VOTE!!!(you will have to comment , because forum-style polls do not exist in the blog , but just post a comment.)

this , will hopefully attract more attention.

    Hope this poll helps

Good move, blakesterville. As soon as we get a rough idea of what the community wants, we can start developing! 4.gif

    Simmaster07: does this work to date?(I don't so php , so I wouldn't know...)

Would you mind explaining what your doing more clearly?

Smartross1:we really need to advertise this poll better , it has so far attracted no attention.

I am still interested , but I have said before , I don't have too much time , I have even less time now , so it would be hard for me to do much in a week.

I will try to get more on this poll shortly , but I can't right now.

blakesterville: The code has several classes (MySQL, Administrator, Moderator, AllianceLeader, Member, System) which have many other functions for controlling the game. From an HTML page, someone can use a form and control the game from there, and the functions will insert, update or remove data from the database. Of course, I'm not dumb enough to leave everything insecure, so every possible string is escaped with slashes ('\') in order to prevent SQL injection.

    Where is this project?

I thought the simtropolis 1000 idea was dead , and this replaced it.

Has project cb begun it's production in php?

Also , is it encouraged to post things like this on the site? I am discussing this here because I don't know.(is it okay to post threads like this over there?)

    Thanks.

    Blakesterville.

It's good that SimMaster07 hasn't completely left ProjectCB. I'm adding an advertisement to my signature, to see if that helps.

Wow , thanks , smartross , I will do the same...

simmaster07: I have seen them... is there any more you can tell about the game , and is any c++ programming still needed?

    I hope I can help.

I have, actually just thought of a culmination idea. If we create a C++ version, then we will have to compile executables for Windows, MacOS and Linux, then there's testing, and cross-platform compatibility...

So, how about using Flash to program the game, and use an XML file as a database? The game would, then, work the same on every computer, cutting down on a lot of potential coding issues. Of course, this is just a suggestion, I'll need to see what the developers think of it before actually implementing it.

If you want multiplatform java is the way to go. not flash. flash is harder to learn and not as good for 3d stuff as java is.

RuneScape is a good java game example.

Well, yes, Java would be another option. It was more the idea of using that kind of language to ensure compatibility than it was using Flash itself.

Well, until yesterday, I didn't know any Java either. If you already know C++ or C# or a similar language, then it's not to drastic a change.

On the topic of features, I think that, in theory, it wouldn't be too tricky to have non-grid roads; get a user to click, store a point, get another click, store the point, build a road between them and have a simple texture (such as a Stop Line) for any intersections. Of course, it will be slightly trickier than saying that, but it certainly isn't too difficult...

dont make it it web based and dont based of on lin-city(NG) eather you shold base it on Open city if you really want somthing good and it shold be a downloadable client and it shold be for Windows, linux and mac

OpenCity is a full 3D city simulator game project. It is written in standard C++ with OpenGL and SDL from scratch. It is not intended to be a clone of any famous city simulator from Max*s. So, if you are looking to download a free SimCity 4 like, please forget OpenCity. At the meaning time, you can build roads, electric lines, electric plant, trees and the three standard RCI zones.

Making ProjectCB multi-platform is a good goal, however, what you said may be slightly contradictory. You said that it should be a downloadable client, and that it should be for Windows Linux and Mac. Code, although it ought to be standardized, just isn't, especially when it comes to making GUIs (the basis of any program that doesn't come up in a command line window, for those who don't know). That's why I presented the idea of using a web-applet language, so that the game just runs in an internet browser: only one edition of code, all the operating systems.

However, I will take a look at OpenCity to see what options that presents us with. As for your suggested features, roads, power lines and a power plant of some description were probably givens; however, we'd have to find out from the community whether or not the other two features were wanted. Trees possibly, but the three RCI zones are, perhaps, a matter of opinion. I'm not saying that I support any particular building growth system for the project, I'm just pointing that out.

I don't know if this as been discussed but, Money talks, money talks more than all the good will ever will, maybe you should do the reverse to what all game companies do when they make a game. What I mean is get players to play for the game now or at least a part of the game, I am not saying that they will necessarily have a share in the game/ company, they just pay the down payment up front to help fund the project.

Off course you will probably need to have a proper company set up, (a dictatorship) to make shore the game runs smoothly and the funds are going in the right places, and this will also allow you to higher the right programmes and other versus people needed to make the game work, not just relaying on good will that will probably never come though(on offences to anyone hear), I could go into more detail but I don't wont to boor people.

the main problem you will probably come across is convincing people will that the project is not a total wast of money and the game WILL came out,  With the right structures in place I believe that you could convince people to put down the payment to get it off the ground
