Well I've been playing simcity 4 since it first came out. After 2 years playing it I decided that it was time to add something to my gameplay, so I decided to start planning and reacreating real cities, but guess what? simcity 4 didnt have enough things to do that. After looking for simcity downloads all over the web I found this site. I learned a lot, but I think that it is time now to create a thread in which great cjers show us some of their techniques and some of their work and teach us about so that we can all have some tips ( specially the *****ies haha no offense ). So what about doing this?? what do you think people?? it will be a tutorial on how to create real cities and it will be devided into sections... like europeans, americans, latin americans, african, asians, whatever ideas you've got to show us....

the problem with this is that its basically already on here. the OMNIBUS has tons of tutorials and then theres the SHOW US threads started right here where people will ask questions about others pix and techniques(sp?).

it sounds like a good idea but its really right in front of us it just depends on how lazy ppl are and how much searching they want to do.

True, but do they explain or show us REAL cities?? Im not trying to be rude but most of the cities there are fictional..... thats why I thought people would more interested in looking at a real city and not a fictional....

the second point... I agree, but if there was some kind of way to get them... like a price or those medals they give for best batter or best CJ, you know what I mean haha

There are real city tutorials and CJ's....nearly every tutorial in this forum is dedicated towards making cities more real...I don't think it's right for you demand a big coup to make more realistic resources when you were too lazy to find these yourself.

First off.. what exactly makes a real city look more REAL on this site than a fictional city? I honestly take offensive at your lack of respect for those of us who try to create a realistic looking city.

Secondly, if you looke at the highest ranked journals... they are nearly all FICTIONAL. meaning that your arguement that we all want to see real cities is not based on fact

Thirdly, any information or tip you want can be found ANYWHERE on this site.

Finally, it does sound like you just don't want to search for anything.. you want it handed to you on a silver platter. Try typing yoru city you want in to the search bar, and I'm sure you will find what you need, without demanding that every CJer stop thier "fake" city to build you some real ones.

I'm sorry, but your comments are out of line, and considered offensive.

there aint very many out there right now. the ones that come to mind are New York, LA, London, and now/again Minnneapolis/St. Paul.

id say subscribe to those that way u get updates in ure email and can see what thesse guys do on a regular basis.

im currently working on my home town. its only got a population of 15,000 in RL. so it aint gonna take me very long to recreate.

I have ownership over my MPLS St Paul Metro region and from my experiences you need resources like Google Earth (mainly for the ruler feature) & Live maps from MSN to provide birds eye view of intersections, structures, etc that will give a better idea of how things are suppost to look.

SIMplMn9: well there's something you are totally wrong about, which is the part you say that I dont look up for anything, but let me tell YOU something.....

First of all i've already looked up for what I was looking for and I couldnt find it

Second I'm not saying there are not cjs or threads where they are trying to be realistic, I was just saying that from all the cjs that we've seen yet, the only I find with a tutorial like is the one that lucky 7 did, of course there's a lot more, but most of them are not recreations, so all I said is that RECREATIONS would be something that "might" be interesting for some people like me of course, remember that you are not the only member in here, some of us are looking to some other things that are of our like...... not trying to insult the work of anybody, I just wanted to express a need that I had and that I thought it would be nice...... but since you know this site better than me..... would you like to show me some of those cjs and threads that you are talking about???

Use that thing, look at a city you want to model, do it.

Sim City 4 is a somewhat outdated game.  You'll never be able to accurately model a large metropolis within the game without extensively modifying the game's internal code, which I'm fairly sure at this point is something not possible to do.

As far as a "tutorial" for making a realistic city, there isn't one.  It's like trying to write a tutorial on common sense.  I try to make my cities look and function as realistic as possible, so I use some mods like Trolca's Train Set and this Amtrak Mod (not sure if it includes the cars, but searching "Amtrak" shouldn't be very hard for you), and of course, the Network Addon Mod, which adds a lot of things that make sense.

I'm really not sure what else to tell you as far as realism goes.  I'm pretty sure that every single CJ on the site strives for some sort of realism, so look at what the authors did to make their city look that realistic, and apply those techniques to some map you find on Google Earth.  If you want more of a "tutorial" than that you're better off asking someone more experienced with the game make a city for you.

But still you dont get the point, Im not saying that the things already existing are bad or whatever I was just wondering if there would a chance to create a thread where only recreations are made, there are some cjers that are actually reacreating real world cities, well I think that it would a nice idea if we could create a thread where only recreations are shown, instead of mixing them with other works, that's all, I didnt mean to offend anybody in here and plus im not that lazy is just that sometimes things are not clearly enough when you look for something specific.....Plus I never said that the threads werent real or not I just said that the thread should be about recreating as much as possible a real city, I dont understand why you got so mad when all I was trying to express was something to keep the site fresh as it always is. sorry if I offended anybodys work, criss

    But that's just pointless...

Why have just a separate thread for the 5 or so CJ's that are after real cities????  Just watch for them, it's not exactly hard.  I mean, you click into the thread, check for updates, then click out.  If a little looking is required, then that's fine.  No offence, but this just seems lazy, very lazy...

The threads have already been pointed out.. just because you can't find what you want does not mean this community needs to cater to what exactly you want. How would a real city tutorial be any different from a city building tutorial? What makes it so different?

As for your comment about how I am not the only one here.. might I point out your earlier comment that you believe more people want to see a recreational city rather than the fictional ones we have created.. which is clearly incorrect, as you can see the overwleming reponse against your proposal, as well as the fact that you have submitted any kind of evidence to back any one of your claims... so to tell me that I am not the only one here.. sounds a bit like the pot calling the kettle black.

We given you what is currently available to help you out, and you still say no thats not what you need... so prove to US (not just me) that your arguement is valid. For it does right now appear only that you do not want to actuall look, but have it handed to you on a silver platter.

As a final point, I must say that I have found quite a few "fake" cities on this site that look so much better than our real word cities of today.

Look all I said is that I was looking for something.... so I just thought that it would be a nice idea, well now you come protecting something that I'm not attacking, all im saying is that it would be nice to have a part in the site where we can find the recreations directly without having to look through the entire cj page, that's all, i like the "fake" as YOU call them and the recreations both a lot, but i thought that it would also good to have a part where they dont mix up, sorry im not interested in keep on arguing with you, so im sorry if i offended anybody, but jeez man you are taking it so far that i dont know how a simple idea became so important as a matter of discussion, specially for you, you were very offensive, did I ever called you said that everything was a crap except for I was looking for?? you need to read and comprehend what the text says, never said what you are describing

i think both of you have blown this way outta proportion. look its not gonna happen cause there aint enuf of the "real world" cj's goin on. i think maybe when there is more of em bein done then there might be a need for them in thier own section. i think its time to let this die. maybe PM a mod or something.

I don't know if you mean a real city tutorial or a realistic city tutorial, but I have been (slowly) working on a realistic city tutorial for American Cities (Mainly the Midwest style, but can be used for anywhere).
