I love it. It's very "busy", yet reduces clutter by only using three colours, all of which go together well.

Not a flag, but the coat of arms of the Most Serene Mediterranean Empire of Barnanova. This empire lies on an alternative timeline when the Barnanovese Empire never fell and shrunk to the current Principality of Barnanova.

 

It has been impossible to represent the different 32 provinces and dependencies of the Empire, but the most important ones are represented.

 

The first person to guess in which RL coat of arms is it based on and which RL crown is on it gets a virtual cookie!

Let me see... black double-headed eagles are usually German, and the Pillars of Hercules are straight off the Spanish arms. I can also spot most of the territories of the north-eastern mediterranean on the shield. I don't recognise the crown through...

No it's Russian because Russia borrowed it from Byzantine Empire.

Imperial eagles were black pretty much everywhere (including Russia), but the current Russian one is gold, as was the Byzantine one.

@Joe 90: I knew that our local specialist on heraldry and vexillology wouldn't fail this one! The overall coat of arms belongs to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor, who was also king of the Spanish Empire (not emperor) as Charles I.

 

This makes that on this coat of arms there can be seen a weird mix of Center-European and Spanish (or Iberian) traditions. The eagles are "German-styled" but the Golden Fleece is indeed of Portuguese origin, currently worn by the King of Spain, same for the Cross of Burgundy (not in my coat of arms) given that it doesn't reflect the traditions I want to reflect on my version.

 

The Pillars of Hercules remained there, given that the Empire owns the province of Pillars of Hercules, which means territories at both sides of the Strait of Gibraltar, I left them there deliberately. I'll show the crown, the flag and all the lore on a CJ update...

 

Also thanks for your offer. I'll be reworking this coat of arms on the next days so there's no need for useless work; but thank you again!
