Some sites are very slow

In the last few days, I found that it takes quite a while longer to get onto some websites than they used, websites I often visit however load just the same as before(Google, ST, SC4D) but only some websites, I haven't visited or hardly ever visit just load ridicously slowly. And some websites don't load at all, like any microsoft websites, but I have been able to get to microsoft websites at school. I have no idea why this is but it really annoys me, I have deleted all the temporary internet files,  used safari and firefox but the same result (I'm using IE8 beta 1). Sorry if I should not post this here but I didn't know where else.

Things you've tried that didn't work:

-using a different browser

-clearing your cache

The thing you tried which did work:

-using a different computer in a different place

So, the problem is likely with your computer or with your ISP, though your modem could also be to blame. That said, try the following:

-Try temporarily turning off your internet security. If that solves the problem, then you know it's the cause. However, Don't leave it off! Your computer is vulnerable if you do that. Turn it back on and have a look at the settings. If you're not confident with doing that, get someone who is to do it.

-scan for viruses and spyware

-restart your computer (if you haven't already)

-refresh/reboot your modem

The type of computer and internet makes a difference in the other thing to do:

-if you've got a laptop with wireless, repair the connection (right click on the task bar icon, select "repair" (probably the first thing you should try in this case). If that doesn't work, try hooking up to a different network. If that solves the problem, then your ISP is the issue and you need to contact them.

-if you've got a desktop, hook a different computer up to the internet connection you're using (probably the last thing you should try in this case). If that doesn't solve the problem, then your ISP is the issue and you need to contact them.

If you're still stumped after all that, you should get someone who knows what they're doing to have a look at your computer.

Run a virus scan, but if that yeilds no results, do a traceroute to your DSL/Cable modem (run>CMD> Tracert [ip address]). What kind of connection are you using. If it's wireless, is it 802.11 a, b, g, or n? If it is DSL/Cable/dial up, how is your computer connected to your modem/router? If there is anything in the path of this (a router, switch, other computer, etc.) check it out too. Sorry if I overloaded you a bit.

For me, some sites are naturaly slow. Simtropolis has always been slow (like 3 or 4 minutes loading time to update my cj) Skyscraperpage.com has also been very slow for me, but it is an excellent website. i've tried virus scans and nothing worked and i've had a person check it and there was no problem, the websites were just slow. As for your problem, there isn't much i can help with.

Or if you know the IP address of one of the sites that isn't loading, you could try pinging it. I believe the command for that is "ping {IP address}". Not exactly intuitive, I know. 3.gif

The internet has black holes and I believe that's the cause of slow internet.

Also Torrents can slow down your connection speed ALOT. If you have a shared brandwith (cable) probably some geek is downloading a Linux distro or a "backup movie" or game. That's happens alot in my hood and that gets me angry.

Are you connected to a wireless connection. If so, is it yours?

A ping wouldn't really indicate anything other than a screwed up DNS server, which can e bypassed by putting the ip address into the web browser. I would say try a different vius scanner, as some don't catch everything.
