Making NAM Ped Malls look like parks

In this picture there are only two lots:  the skate park, and the mayor.

I used a small mod to make the NAM Ped Mall puzzle pieces look more like parks. I did not change how they work; I just stole the prop specifications from existing lots to change how the Ped Malls look.

Specifically I made:

The Open Paved Ped Mall to look like a plaza when plopped facing east.
Every other Grass Ped Mall to have trees, but only if it is next to a $$$ lot.
The Elevated Rail over Open Paved Ped Mall to have flowers if it is next to any lot or zone.

I would like to know if many people are interested in this kind of modding.  If they are, I may improve the ability to rotate Ped Malls in a future version of the NAM.

    I was thinking of this kind of thing years ago I asked that the Ped Mall previews have orientation arrows.  I thought it would be nice if users could select how their Ped Malls look by plopping them at different angles.

    Now I am back, I find that only some Ped Malls have preview orientation arrows, and most can only be plopped in two orientations.

    As I said,  I would really like to know how much interest there is...

    Question, How did you do that. Did you use the LOT EDITOR.

    No, I did not use the lot editor directly, I used type 21 exemplars.

    You can, however, design/create any 1x1 lot in the lot editor and then copy the props from that lot.

    Most things work, but a few don’t.  B.A.T. night lighting does not work.

    I'm definitely interested!  Your initial work looks great.  If I may make a suggestion, I think the Center Pole Ped Mall piece could definitely use a facelift.  It looks too repetitive if you use more than a few together.  I have actually removed the pole altogether, but I sure you could do something really cool with T21's.

    And as Andreas said, draggable ped malls would be really, really cool... 4.gif

    Your ped-mall tiles look nice, and it's definitely an interesting idea, but I do have some reservations:

    - I don't like those mods that "replace' or "mod" (4.gif) existing items. First you can't have both forms (old and new) at the same time - you "lose" the old one. Second, there are some plugins built around the existing ones, for example GLR on pedmall (NAM) or Cogeo's Pedmall transit pack. These will no longer be usable.

    - I think a better idea would be to contact the NAM team and expand the pedmall tile set. Not neccessarily new designs, but mostly expanding the existing designs to series. For example there should be a plain tile using the same texture as the Centre Pole piece (but without the pole) and another one with the same texture again, but with planters instead. And this would apply to all pedmall types. Now players tend to use plazas and open pavement tiles combined with pedmall tiles to achieve a decent- and realistic-looking pedestrian street. That woulf be the ultimate solution.

    I'm interested as well! 4.gif Bigger ped malls always tend to look rather empty, so this would be a welcome addition.

    The picture shows some stuff (mostly stolen from Maxis) I put together as a quick demonstration.  I am glad you like them, but I cannot take credit for them.

    Adhoc, you can see from the picture that some of the Open Paved Ped Malls have props, and some don’t, so you CAN have both the old and new at the same time.

    I am on the NAM team. I posted the picture to see if there was enough interest to justify squeezing in the time needed to make the Ped Malls a bit better for this kind of use, because many of the ped malls have only two unique orientations and often there is no way to determine the rotation before you plop them.  Unfortunately, I did not change them in the April 24 release.  Maybe in the next version…

    As for adding more ped malls, this can be done but it means that there are more items to tab through.  I was thinking that people could make mods that were rotation specific, so that you could have up to 3 different sets of props, plus the original, for each ped mall.  The only problem with this is that the props would always face the same way. (A random orientation is also possible)

    Are you still actively pursuing this topic, guys? I'm working on a pedmall set for SimMars and rotation is very important.

    i would be very interested in helping mod these too. i did a lot of freelance glr modding with props and features, but could nevef figure out some of it. just let me know if i could be of any assistance.

    Hello there,

    I was going through the thread and find very interesting how those ped mall tiles were transformed to show props...

    Now I am wondering whether it would be possible to mod existing or new ped malls tiles to apply them an overlay texture.

    So almost basically making a ped mall lot 1x1 or maybe even ultimately 1x2 or more even different shapes.

    I already have good looking 1x1, 1x2... 1x6 pedestrian transit lots that I use as alley and footpath, but these always need to be interconnected with a road, or ped mall tile. Would be great if I could make the ped mall tile look alike the rest of the footpath thus making it all look seamless.

    I don't know which examplars contain ped mall tiles, and how I would exactly have to apply the overlay texture other than by designing a lot and then taking its "lot design" properties and applying them to the ped mall tiles. But I guess that's not how it goes, or?

I am still working on getting the Martian Ped Malls to function consistently (SimMars Beta2 has a few quirks when it comes to modding).
