parking garages

whats the best way to fill up parking garages. I placed them by bus stops, rail stations, subway atations and the best i get maybe 5-10 cars

Place them only in residential areas. Second, if your transit stops are within walking distance of most of your residential, the sims will simply walk to the station rather than park and ride. Third, if there still is very light usage, demolish the structure and build something more useful there.

if i'm going to place a parking garage nest to a transit facility, that transit facility is the only one i will build nearby. this keeps your sims from using other facilities and is similar to RL park and ride facilities...

Parking Garages tend to be a bit one-way:

During the morning commute - sims will drive from home, to a parking garage, and then take mass transit on to work; they won't take mass transit to any parking garage and then drive to work.

During the evening commute - sims will take mass tranist from work, to a parking garage, and then drive on home; they won't drive to any parking garage and then take mass transit on home.

Please remember the above points when placing your parking garages and mass transit stations.

Tip - it helps if you place these in a more-or-less straight line from home-to-work.

Tip - parking garages work better at (or near) intersections that have a lot of traffic.

Also, railroad stations have parking, which makes parking lots useless when placed by a railroad station.

I think parking garages are the horror.

I had a residential region without any jobs. Everything was working well, commuters drove to other regions using the routes by train, highway and GLR/subway I had calculated. Then I placed a parking garrage close to a Rail-and GLR changeover. That caused 890 cars to drive there crowding all my residential streets leading towards it, while there was a drop in usage of highways and other stuff. HORROR.

Usually, in my cities the parking garages are useless.  My transit system is usually such that a bus stop is close by.  I have found that most of my sims will use the bus then transfer to another transit type if necessary.  I've never had a parking garage with moren than 3% usage.
