Hey guys.

So i have a city. 240 pop.

It had a large municipal airport and it was already at the end of it's capacity. So i decided to build a small international airport, to handle more capacity of flights to the city, for even better business.

But when i buldolized the large municipal airport (it's useless for me to have two airports at the same time OR NOT?)

Then  always the traffic advisor is always offering me to build municipal airport.

I thought *****? I already have international airport, do i really need a smaller one airport aswel?

does municipal airport have any advantage over international airport?

Is that just a bug?

Or what is happening?

it's even more sick now. In the same city, a "game year" later, the advisor offered me to build an International airport.

I had already one, so i don't think another one should be built.

Is it totaly safe to ignore is offers like this?

I think you can ignore this.

Be sure to keep funding for the airport high enough, so capacity is always big enough.

I saw a map with a few million citizens, and there were several large airports on the map.

But I must admit, I don't know exactly whether airports can be accumulated and I don't know either whether they have a certain YIMBY radius like rewards.

I know. In every large city i have 200+ pop. There has to be an airport. Municipal at least. And because for a reason known only to developers airport has no effect on neighbooring cities no matter how close they are they have no impact. (yeah, really smart region play you might say). Then i have an airport almost in every city. That's not realistic so much is it?

Yeah, I contribute to region view.

I'm going to set one airport in the large western city center and one airport in the large eastern city center. The smaller regions don't get airports.

Oh, and I found something interesting for my agrarian areas. Though made it 2003 for Sim City, it works still fine today.2.gif

delete the airport, and when he asks for a new one, just build it, that usually helped me, although I only had this problem once...

you mean, if i have international airport, and when he asks me to build a municipal airport, i just build the municipal airport and delete it?

Cause he is always begging me to build the municipal one.

    Hello Namesys,

I have always gotten bogged down in details and have never gotten a medium or large upgrade to any of my small airports. So the main reason that I put in airports is for the commercial demand cap relief. Then there are those, given that you can have three different city sizes and given that there are three sizes of airports, would say to put in airports based on city/airport size. Then again - my large city tiles have all been laid out so as to allow for four (4) large airports; should I ever have reason to put them all in.

But you did raise a couple of interesting questions - that I, also, would like to hear the answer to:

    1) Do the different sizes of airport cater to any special interests? As in - would the Landing Strip be more llikely to cater to the low wealth, while the Municple would cater to the medium wealth, and the International would then be more attractive to the high wealth sims?

    2) Will airports function as commuter links between cities? Can a sim hop a plane ride to another city as part of the commute to work? (My best guess - based on never having seen an air-path/route on the route query tool - would be that airports aren't part of the commute network; but this is only a guess. And if this is not currently available - could there be a way to make a mod to do this?)

    Interesting thoughts,

    -NetPCDoc

No detail is too small to be micromanaged.

    1. Airports haul freight for the commercial zones, the more capacity an airport has, the more freight it hauls. So there is no other advantage to any wealth level.

    2. Airports don't carry passengers "per se", so they don't connect cities, they work like the seaports and export freight to some unknown location.

Edit:  If you add a second airport the usage is divided between the two, [or more] airports.

I believe it is a bug. I think it has something to do with the issue that each major upgrade (landing strip to municipal and municipal to international) requires a replop because of the larger footprint. that said, a fix should appear soon from the Aircraft Consortium over at SC4D. They are creating new airports to replace the Maxis ones that will have the same size footprint from the smallest to the largest and additional stages so only one should be needed.

i agree with tungston. when you have no need for freight, you don't need one (ie residential only cities), but where you have freight you still need one. the more industry you have, the more capacity you'll need as it relieves a demand cap for the export of the freight i believe. the airport is needed to relieve a demand cap for commercial as well (i don't know exactly why though)

check you're commercial demand and try putting in a landing strip to if you have the money.

Also it looks like you're cities doing fine to me, its probably just a bug.
