Im not sure, but i heard that if you build an incenerator, and let it burn trash that it will burn the trash off of the dump lot.

Otherwise you can download some amazing lots, PEG has a good lot that dumps trash over the side of the city tile.

You can export your garbage to a neighbour region.

The neighbour region needs a dump mine on its own for garbage storage.

Within few days/weeks the garbage should be gone.

I got a city that handles all my garbage. I got a dump mine there and about 10 incinerators.

Running the incinerators leaves you with very high cost for power.

Accordingly I got about 20 coal fired power stations that produce cheap power.

These also provide jobs for my workers on the neighbour city.

When I play the Dump Spot City and the garbage becomes too much, I switch on the Incinerators for a few month and burn all the garbage. Before I leave the city, I then put on the coal fired power plants again.

In order to delete a dumb that has trash in it, you need to

1. prevent new trash from going into the dump by re-routing it somewhere else: an incinerator, a neighbor deal, or one of the STEX downloads that deals with trash.

2. Wait for it to decompose. (The faster you are incinerating trash or shipping it out of the city, the faster this will happen).

3. Once you have a dump tile with no garbage on it anymore, de-zone it.

It seems to decompose on sort of a half-life cycle-- when you have a large dump, you see the edges of it start to decompose and go away rapidly at first-- but when you get smaller, the last four tiles of a dump seem to take forever, sometimes.

And whatever you do, do NOT dezone small pieces of the empty landfill at a time. Always leave minimum 2x2 sections even if there's no trash on part of it. There is a well-known bug, if you leave an odd-shaped landfill e.g. 1 x n, it'll *never* decompose.

I don't know if it has been proven about the incinerator. There seem to be two schools of thought on it: a) it does burn trash *from* a landfill or b) it simply burns all new trash (i.e. none from the existing landfill), so no more *goes into* the landfill, allowing it to decompose as if the roads were cut off. If anyone has definitive proof of either, please by all means share.

The incinerator can, however, be run at no cost. It won't produce electricity, but if you drop the funding to $0 it will continue to burn garbage... and produce plenty of pollution, too.

I didn't know that it would burn the garbage though funding is set to $0.

I got the same problem Linda described.

The last 4 tiles of garbage take forever to burn.

In my case running the incinerator reduced the trash on the dump mine tiles also dealing with the incoming trash from neighbour regions.
