I have tried installing CS4 severl times, doing what they said to do on the ea games website. I have windows VISTA. It installs no problem. As soon as I start it it shuts down my whole computer, going to a blue screen with white text and then restarts my computer. I never even go to the the actual region either. What do I need to do to get this game going??? I have tried so may things...

I actually know absolutely nothing about computers and their language... Ive read over some of these discussions and don't understand it.... Can anyone help me????

Here some info on my laptop (If that helps?):

Processor Intel® Celeron® M CPU        430  @ 1.73GHz, 1733 Mhz, 1 Core(s), 1 Logical Processor(s)
RAM: 502 MB
32-bit

I've had the same problems as I switched to Vista.. here's what you do to resolve it ->

Go to start -> 'control panel'

then select 'programms'

alomst on top it says "use an older programm with this version of windows"

now you follow the steps by clicking "next"

then you have to select the main .exe file of your simcity game

when you select it manual; it is (probably) in this folder;

my documents/simcity4/apps/simcity4.exe

now you select this .exe file and you make it compatibel with (for example) windows XP

make sure you make a new shortcut on your desktop and if you want in the short-cut menu

hope this helps you

cheers

E

I would also suggest upgrading your memory. I was under the impression Vista required at least 1024mb of RAM to function properly to begin with, but even so, splitting 512mb between Vista, integrated graphics and a game like SC4 is stretching it pretty thin.

Also, before my computer shut down (within a few seconds) i was able to read something about BIOS on the blue screen and trying to disable shadows or something?

better disable "automatic restart" on BLue screen so you would know the type of BSOD 4.gif

then once you get the BSOD type, google it for some possible topics discussing the said BSOD

saraannt1: On vista you press and hold the start key and press pause/break, then go to advanced settings, then go to startup and recovery/settings, then disable Automatically Restart.

512 MB of RAM on Vista?? Now there's your problem...either upgrade your RAM or "upgrade" to Windows XP (I consider that an upgrade 3.gif).

I'm not positive, but I've ran Vista with 512 MB of RAM and the operating system hogged most of the memory so I couldn't run anything else. Although, first I'd do what the other people said to disable the automatic restart and see what the blue screen says. I wouldn't be surprised if it's an "out of memory" error or something though.

Did you download anything other than official game patches? If so, its probably a plugin conflict. The only way to fix this is to take everything out of your plugins folder and put them back one by one untill you find the bad one(s).

No plugin conflicts. I didnt even download any of them, but I checked them anyways and there were only 4 of them that were originally already there i think. So I am lost... No idea what else to try.

I have read of many people having the same problem though. But once people start talking about computers and some of the things to do I get lost because I dont speak their language haha.

only thing I have is 2GB of RAM... so; maybe it is indeed the problem mentioned above; run out of memory. that also gives you a bluescreen and has nothing to do with SC4, plugins orso

that's probably the reason why my post couldn't help you further

so; upgrade your RAM memory or switch back to XP is the solution I guess

Every time I try to launch Sim City Societies I get the blue screen Then my computer restarts. How can I solve this problem? I have an Acer Aspire 3680 laptop with Vista operating system. I just got the computer November of 2007. I have 10 gigs of space left on my hard drive also I did check my event log and it said "The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error: The service can not be started, either because it is disabled or because it hs no enabled devices associated with it" I have no idea what this has to do with starting up Sim City Societies
