It’s time for a new update ! Alba Serena  is back.

    as2aet7.jpg

Here’s a current view of the archipelago with all the islands and their development.

    asa271208ic2.jpg

Update 18.1 – Adventures in islands, part III – A gorilla in the city.   43.gif

Since I live here, I’m very much busy and I’ve a lot of things to do. I thought spend all my time at the beach, but it happens a lot of unusual events. Additionnaly, I have a country to govern. But curiously I’ve nothing to do, there’s no decision making, no people’s demands. It seems that here, all is going very well. Too well, perhaps...

Fortunately, I’ve got this book which will be very useful for me.

    fornewbiesr2xa1.jpg

But, currently, I’m reading the old book I found yesterday and who’s talking about the columns.

    esm050zk1.jpg

There’s a short paragraph which describe them. They’re in fact a representation of six kings who left their mark on people's minds by their reign : Augusto I, Adriano VI, Adriano IX, Orlando IV, Giovanni XIII, and Giovanni XIV. … It’s impossible to have more informations. There’s no internet access here, and no other books in the palace about this, the only one who’s talking about the columns was in my drawer...

But... certainly by chance, although all those coincidences seems curious, among some magazines, I find one on the cover of which I see the famous columns. And inside, an article talking about the 6 kings. All were great adventurers, and one of them, Orlando IV, brought back from Egypt a black obelisk, who can be found on the island of Arenui. There’s also a legend about a gorilla. That becomes very interesting and intrigues me a lot. I must go on Arenui.

While I was wondering how to go to Arenui, Philip, my gardener, offer his services to take me on the island with his boat. Hmmm, is this man really a gardener ? I never saw him taking care of my park.
      We leave Esmeralda...

    esm048lp1.jpg

    and we arrive in Arenui.

    are072uq3.jpg

Here we are in Arenui, a nice island with an asiatic architecture.

    are061cu4.jpg

    are060br3.jpg

Indeed, there’s a gorilla in the city, called “Joe-who-scratchs-its-head”, but nothing to fear, it seems very quiet. It’s a sacred animal here, and this one has a funny history. But currently we must go for the walk.

    are063cu1.jpg

    are064wk5.jpg

    are065rk7.jpg

    are066zl6.jpg

    are068wvy4.jpg

After a visit of the city, a good night and a restful sleep in a beautiful castle, we are ready for a long walk.

We leave as the sun is rising. We have many places to go, but Philip wants to present me some friends who works as farmers on the other side or Arenui. They know many old legends of the island.

First, we’ll go to the black obelisk, because there are inscriptions that I want to see.

    are069yo9.jpg

We'll have to walk on footpaths, but I’ve got good shoes and Philip knows very well the island. I’m very very lucky... isn't it ?

    are071vz2.jpg

    Hope you enjoy !

Soon : the incredible mystery of the black obelisk.

Wow, great update! That book looks like an interesting read and probably quite helpful if you haven't ruled a country before. I like Arenui a lot, nice use of Japanese BATs. I think those building fit in perfectly. C'est très belle!

    Bonne année!

Wow, I like the BAT's you use in Arenui, very Asian looking and realistic. The book "How to Lead a Country for Newbies" may have been a good book to have given George W. Bush, but alas it's too late. lol.

    Happy New Year,

Great work!!!! I was scratching my head about a gorilla in the city. However, your Asian architecture is really unique. You are getting so damn better. I hope you get in the Trixie Awards, because it's a very attractive CJ. As far as category, perhaps most nature filled. Happy New Year's BTW.

Update 18.2 – Adventures in islands, part III – The singing well

The Egyptian obelisk, on the heights of the city, looks rather strange at this place. I would know the signification of these hieroglyphs, but how ? And I don’t think that Philip knows too...

-Look, Twenty, what do you see ? owls, stones, plants, symbols of time… we translate :

    Recipe for Owl Soup

Put a prepared owl in a big pot with a granite stone, unpeeled apples and onions, salt and pepper inside and out the pot.

Make a sauce of melted butter, red wine, vanilla. Baste owl often while cooking. Boil the pot for 9-10 hours, depending on size of owl and temperature of fire.

When the stone gets soft, throw away the owl and eat the stone.

    are074xv5.jpg

Once again, Philip astonishes me. Without any help, he’s able to decipher the hieroglyphs.

-Well… now, Twenty, look here : the translation is written down the monument... it’s just a stupid joke. No need to insist, the obelisk will not give us any indication.

I am really disappointed, I thought that here I'd find something interesting, but the owl’s soup is indigestible. However, the panorama is splendid.

    are054yd6.jpg

    are067ha2.jpg

We leave again and finally we arrive in a little village with terraced fields.

    are052rc7.jpg

    are053cg2.jpg

First, Philip introduce me to his friends. We have a dinner together with their 15 children. In my honor, they decide to give my name to a peach variety.

    are055gx4.jpg

    are056wj4.jpg

    are057kr5.jpg

After the meal, Kuan Ti, the father, tells old legends, because there’s no television at home. I’m impatient to know Joe’s story.

-Joe was a lovely baby gorilla brought back of Africa by a sailor. Everyone loved it very much and the children played with it. But time goes, Joe grew up, and people found it less interesting. They put it in a cage, with a custodian to feed it.
Time going again, the lock was broken, and Joe escaped in the forest, where he lived, eating insects and fruits. Nobody knew where it hid. Often, people could hear it “singing”.

Some month later, pirates took over the island and terror reigned everywhere.

    are075fb8.jpg

During a very dark night, a luminous monster appeared in the streets of the city. The frightened inhabitants hid in their houses. But the pirates, superstitious, seeing this green ghost, ran away and left the island.

    -What about this ghost ?

-Joe lived hidden at the bottom of an old well, whose walls were of white phosphorus, and Joe’s fur became phosphorescent. It's from this well that people heared it singing.

    gorilla3aw3.jpg

A park was built for it, where it lived, eating bananas and scraping its head. Then, it got older and died. The city wished that a statue of Joe was made in its memory. Today, people throw coins in the well, making a wish. are068wxe0.jpg

The day after, we go at Joe’s park, a very nice place, to see the well where he lived, and make a wish. I take a coin and... there’s something written on the well’s edge ! An old inscription, partially illegible. We only can read some words: The well entry..... not tell you...... black goddess..... old.

We leave Arenui, with a new mystery very... mysterious !

    are051ze2.jpg

    are058wy7.jpg

    are059db0.jpg

Hope you enjoy ! more adventures soon.

Well, I certainly wasn't expecting anything like this going in. It's a bit crazy, but I love it. The great scenery and the interesting mystery make for a cj that I just can't ignore.

I rather like Arenui. It's a very pretty place, the Asian buildings are all very nice. The hiking trails look great, too. I believe that if I were to move there and live on the beach for the rest of my life, I'd be a very happy man.

One of the characters above will be soon very important in this history. If you have ideas you can propose them. Just to know how you imagine the continuation of the tale.
