Ciara: My New Start

Hi everyone!

I hope at least some of you remember New Terrasia, my first... attempt at a CJ. Sadly, I lost the Terrasia files when I got my new Mac computer, and as some of you know I only recently began playing SC4 again - by recently, I mean I didn't even know where my disks were until last week.

Thus, this CJ will be a bit on the unorthadox side. There WILL be a story and a nation and a flag and all that, but not for a while yet. For now, it will pretty much be me writing down the progress I make on building the city each day. Of course, ALL and any critisiscms and comments are welcome.

Finally, please to note that I have NO lots/BATs yet. I am downloading some as we speak. As my collection grows, so will the city.

So, without further ado, I present... the city - and later region - of Ciara:

Episode 1 - From the Ground Up

If you don't want to take time to read the whole thing, each episode has a picture of the region at the beginning and end of the episode to mark my progress.

"From the Ground Up"

We'll start with some land. It ain't much, but it does kinda look cool, right? The idea was to make the city look sort of... enclosed in the valley, which was probably a sizeable crater once. The ring of gentle hills (and the one not-so-gentle Knot in the corner) surrounds the center of what is sure to become a bustling city. The little plateu in the center of the city is entirely man-made - but that's another story.

e1firstringargh.jpg

Obviously, the first thing we'll need is a good transportation system. The city will be divided into three - or more - 'rings', each housing a separate zone. This area you see here is the innermost ring, or the First Ring, under construction... don't you hate it when SC4 makes you redo the terrain 15 times to build something?

e1firstringfinished.jpg

Ah... that's much better. I decided to use some of the cool-looking NAM interchanges, as you can see, and I'm quite happy with the results. The trees are mostly default, I'm afraid, I haven't gotten around to downloading other ones yet.

e1firstringcomplete.jpg

Here's the completed First Ring. Note the tunnel and the road accross the middle... they'll both be important later. The Rock Mod I'm using is PEG's Mossy Granite, which I think fits nicely.

e1firstringjoint.jpg

This is a closeup of the northern 'Joint' which connects the First Ring to the others. I was really pleased with how that texture came out; the NAM lots just seem to blend into the hillside...

e1secondringjunction.jpg

Of course, this is the South Joint, and you can also see that construction has started on the Second Ring. The avenure traffic will be something to see - once there's someplace for traffic to come from.

e1secondringcomplete.jpg

Here's the completed Second Ring, connected to the First. I might extend those roundabouts later and make them connect, too. A 4-quadrant map would be fun.

This is the Knot, the largest mountain in the Ciara metropolitan area and a location which will eventually play a large role in our sto

Perhaps a hieght mod would help alittle with the bumpy avenues. Other than that nice start.

great start, you thoughtfully laid out your beginnings and documented every step. Can't wait to see how it develops!

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

    Hey everyone,

Just to let all of you know that I'm rounding out my civic stuff today and should be ready to post another update soon. I don't think we'll be seeing any grown lots for a while, though - it's a lot of work, setting up this stuff.

I'll reply to everyone when I post - and I've got a bit of a cold, so if I sound delirious or start talking about something completely unrelated, bear with me.

I like how you're filling up the entire valley. Very nice enclosure feeling, I'll be back for more when you start growing your city. 4.gif

I'm sorry, everyone, I've been really sick these past couple of days. I have the pictures all ready, I just need to resize them and put them in order. Tomorrow will be the day, I promise!
