And a small update for you all:

    STHL report!!!

    MyGretzkyCup2008.gif

    STHL playoffs approaching... fast!

This is it, hockey fans.  Six more days.  Many more teams.  Many more opportunities.  Around North America fans are warming up for the playoffs and stocking up on popcorn and hot chocolate.  Whoever isn't, I suggest you do it too!!!  Among the teams that have clinched playoff spots, four have already done so in the Don Cherry Conference (namely the Rorysville Frostbite, the Port Matthew Defenders, the River City Otters and the Nyhaven Killerwhales), while 3 of them have clinched their spots in the Bobby Orr Conference (among them the Earlton Emperors and the two recent clinchers, the Entwistle Oxen and the Marshall Stars).  With 6 spots left in the Don Cherry and 7 left in the Bobby Orr, the fight for the Gretzky Cup has already begun.  As games pass other teams are bound to clinch their playoff spots, other teams below the top 10 going home.  The playoffs will be 7 game series, like all others, with 5 series in each conference at the beginning of the playoffs.  As the snow begins to disappear off our streets, however, so does the hockey games.  As you know, after the playoffs, is the long wait for next season.  Some of you, like me, won't even be able to wait for it!!!  But not yet, folks.  Playoffs first, which will be some big competition this year with rookies such as the Entwistle Oxen and the Marshall Stars and veterans like the Rorysville Frostbite and the Earlton Emperors.  6 more days, but as the playoffs come and go you folks will all realize that it was and it will be worth the wait.

    Marshall Stars news wire

Look at the Stars, basking around with consecutive wins for 6 games, including a shutout.  What does Marshall deserve for all this work?  A playoff spot.  The Stars have clinched it.  Also, if they win one more game or if the Tridents lose their next game, the Stars will have clinched the division lead as well.  Look at the Stars' active past.  A 9-0, a 9-1, numerous shutouts, and Kovalchuk's exciting and inspiring performance at the all-star games.  We deserve it, don't you think?  What I don't think we deserve is the fact that we don't have Kovalchuk for another 4 days and Mitchell is out for 3 days due to game misconducts.  That's right--GAME MISCONDUCTS.  The Stars seem to be playing tough to get their wins.  And I mean tough.  I believe that with every bit of good luck, some bad luck follows.  This theory can be proved here.  With 6 more days until the playoffs, the competition will be really tough to maintain their position.  How many more wins can they get?  Probably a lot more in my honest opinion.  The Stars are doing great, and I hope they can do so without a top star.  This will be a test of their power and strength without their MVP.  Let the season continue now, and all the challenge the Stars have to face, they will face.  But I do hope that they continue to succeed.

Hey. Great CJ, love surburbia and the realistic sprawl.

I've got a question; how do you make those images with the downtown on a person view? this:

    skylineheadingrepliesza4.jpg

I've seen it done before, I've just never been sure how.

if you know a tutorial how to do it or whatever, tell me please.

EDIT: I just read over your CJ, and this wasnt the midwerstern Cj called Marshall I thought I was in. Nonetheless, it is good and I'm still interested in that pic.

    NEWS FLASH

Stars capture the division lead in an amazing shutout

Last night the game vs. the Leprechauns and the Stars was quite exciting!  As you remember, they faced each other in their first games, with Marshall winning 3-1.  Revenge?  Sadly for the Leprechauns, they failed to get their revenge.  Marshall ended up winning the game with an astounding 3-0 shutout.  Stars goalie Chris Osgood performed really well in this game, making great saves and stopping pucks against tough competitors.  For the scoring and defensive lines, going against the Leprechauns was not much of a problem, with lesser players Tenute, Axellson and Brind'Amour each scoring a goal.  While Kovalchuk's suspension has been lifted, he's been a bit laid back with the goals, thus testing the others' skills.  The Leprechauns have not been eliminated yet; opposite for Marshall, with a great shutout win clinching the division lead after failing to do so in their last game against the Tridents (6-3).  3 games are left for each of them before the playoffs; for one team it will be a fierce battle, but for the other it won't be much of a problem.  As for the Stars, this win has been enough to get them home ice advantage.  The first game of the playoffs will commence in about one week at the Marshall Spirit Arena.  The announcement of who Marshall will face will come soon.  So start planning folks and get your tickets, because the playoff race has almost begun!!!

See the game at the STHL official site in Marshall's second (consecutive) STHL network video.

Also, if you would like to, the previous loss against the Sephora Tridents is also available on the STHL network.

(note the '3rd period' in the video title.  Don't mind that; it caused me some confusion as well).

New Heights Reached in STHL History!

For the First time in STHL history we have a 50 Goal Scorer.  Ilya Kovalchuk of the Marshall Stars netted his 50th goal of the season versus Entwistle on the Road.  The Crowd in Entwistle acknowledged the sniper's accomplishment and gave him a standing ovation.  "This historic mark is one that will always be remebered and is not only a great feat for the player but is also a great feat for the team, the fans, and the league." -Commisioner Douglas.  Kovalchuk's Stars clinched their divison just the night before and will now focus on their goal of a Gretzky Cup.

Excellent job building that extremely realistic school campus. I really, really like how the grass textures on everything matches up pretty perfectly. Also, the paved areas are nicely placed. Clever use of that commercial building o act as an extra structure for the school. Simply put, a great return from a hiatus! 9.gif

    The playoffs are here!

This is it, folks.  The 2007-2008 regular season has finally come to an end, and the real competition is about to begin.  The last 3 days of the season have came and gone, and for fans of the 13 teams who did not make it, the wait will be a long one.  For fans of the 16 teams who have made it, you still have a few weeks where 8 teams in each conference battle each other for the one and only Gretzky Cup.  Among the noted teams are the Rorysville Frostbite, one of the founding teams in the league, is triumphing once again finishing the league in first.  Another rookie, the Earlton Emperors, finished fourth and were proud of their achievement.  The Marshall Stars, who came directly from the minor leagues, finished in a not-too-disappointing 8th place after achieving many goals they never thought they would achieve at all.  The Gretzky Cup playoffs will be a tough competition, as always.  But as the games come and go, there will only be one answer to the question all STHL fans are wondering about: who will win the Gretzky Cup?

    Marshall Stars News Wire

Although the regular season did not end with a bang for the Stars (4-3 OTL vs. MFM), the Stars are proud for what they have achieved since the beginning of the season.  Joining the STHL earlier this year in January 2008 (up from the minor leagues) the team has gone into ups and downs since it entered, but their achievements were quite big.  For one, Marshall Star Ilya Kovalchuk was the first in STHL history to score 50 goals; Chris Osgood was able to shutout another team 9-0; the Stars have acclaimed the division lead by a shutout win.  But now, for the Stars, the competition begins.  The National City Gulls will be their opponent in the first round of the much-awaited Gretzky Cup playoffs, and GM David Glen is looking quite forward to it.  This morning, he also made a short speech and announced it on live television:

"For our first season in the Simtropolis Hockey League, the Marshall Stars have done quite well then expected.  The minor leagues were just as challenging, just as this new league is.  With the strength and confidence of the Stars, I believe there is nothing to get in their way, and we will fight an intense battle for the Gretzky Cup, like others.  We could win, or we could lose, but no matter what happens, the Marshall Stars will always be there, shining bright for all of you."

Ladies and gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce that SimCity work on Marshall has resumed and the update is coming soon!  No update yet, but I have another treat for you all.  As you know, the STHL playoffs has finally begun!

    STHLPlayoffs08.gif

SERIES G: MARSHALL STARS VS. NATIONAL CITY GULLS

    GAME 1

Well, the Marshall Stars started their playoffs with a big bang.  The National City Gulls may have made a delicious comeback up from 11th to 6th place, but I don't think it will be any problem for the Stars to win the series.  The first game: A sad loss for the Gulls, a big starter for the Stars.  Recently-signed right-winger Brett Hull opened up the scoring in the first period while Gulls goalie Martin Gerber failed to make a glove save.  This was followed in 5 minutes by Mikael Renberg's outstanding one-timer.  Centerman Yanic Perrault managed to score a lucky goal for the Gulls against Chris Osgood in the first period.  In the second period, Kovalchuk was on the ice and scored his first goal of the playoffs.  This was a slap shot that not even Gerber could save.  In just a minute, Alex Tanguay managed to slap one in against Chris Osgood of the Stars, making it 3-2 in the second.  The third period brought some excitement to Stars fans: two goals, by Brind'Amour and Kovalchuk, which at the end of the third period brought the Stars to a 1-0 series lead with a 5-2 win.  I think the Stars will go quite far in the playoffs, hopefully with a Gretzky Cup win.  GM David Glen made the right choice stepping up to the major leagues pre-season, and he is quite proud about it.  However, financing for the Stars has also reached a high, though with the number of attendants at each season game that won't be much of a problem.  There have also been rumours that GM David Glen is talking with the Marshall sports comittee to build a new arena east of downtown Marshall to accomodate the rising amount of fans and to replace the aging 15,000 seat Spirit Arena.  Reports indicate the arena will be named the Midwest Spirit Center and will be operational by next season.

    NEWS FLASH

    Stars win playoff series 4-0

Series G is over, folks!  Quite quickly, too.  The Marshall Stars end their first series with four stunning wins, moving them up to the Bobby Orr division semifinals.  The Stars were able to put themselves together and win another 3-1 match in round four, thus ending the series and eliminating the National City Gulls from competition.  Coach David Glen stated that this is much more than he expected; winning a series 4-0 made him utterly happy, considering this is their first season in the STHL.  Marshall is also the first to win a series in the league; the River City Otters and the Medaille Mavericks each need to win their next games to follow suit with Marhsall.  In the Bobby Orr conference, the competition is tough between the Earlton Emperors and Victoria Wolves, their series tied 2-2 with their most recent game a win for the Wolves on overtime.  The Entwistle Oxen are 1 behind in their 2-1 series, with quite a few more games to go.  There is a similar situation involving the Metallurg Most and the Shaktar Kholodno.  In the Don Cherry, there are two 3-0 series with the Medaile Mavericks and the River City Otters, respectively, winning their series.  The Rorysville Frostbite and the Anchor Isle fire are having quite a competition, their series tied 2-2.  Same with the Waterford Phantoms and the New London Flames, also at 2-2.  With Marshall's series victory and subsequent victories involving other teams, the Gretzky Cup only gets closer and closer and the competition only toughens.

    From KSTS Sports in Marshall:

Believe it or not, I bought tickets to last night's showstopper for the Gulls!  With another win for the Stars (another 3-1) they win their series 4-0. Halpern, Brind'Amour and Bolland each scored for the Stars and Tanguay scored for the Gulls.  The series never did even out; a prediction made by the STHL network showed the National City Gulls winning the series 4-3.  Unfortunately for the Gulls, this is wrong.  Their season ends here for them, but preparations for next season have already begun.  For the Stars, they seemed to get through this with pure luck.  Coach David Glen stated that this was much more than he expected, and that the National City Gulls seemed to lack the competition.  All in all, the games were not too exciting due to this lack of competition, yet each game filled the 15,000 seater Spirit Arena, which is to be replaced soon with a larger 20,000 seat arena.  Stars player Ilya Kovalchuk is also once again laid back a bit, lacking goals in some games unlike what he accomplished in the regular season.  Stars captain Rod Brind'Amour seems to be laid back in his assist record, but has been able to pay it off with a few goals.  The Stars, now finished their series, deserve a bit of a vacation for finishing first, as a few other series have a long way to go before they finish.  The Earlton Emperors and the Victoria Wolves are some examples of tough competition in the Bobby Orr, as are the Rorysville Frostbite and the Anchor Isles Fire in the Don Cherry.  The pucks aren't stopping yet, but they are expected to stop in a month when the winner of the Gretzky cup is decided once and for all.

    STHL Report

    -Playoffs continue, semifinal opponents announced!

The New London Flames had a spectacular 6-5 overtime win against the Waterford Phantoms; that game seven win thus ends the first rounds of the STHL playoffs.  Eight teams have succeeded, and another eight teams will have to wait until next season for another chance at the Gretzky Cup.  The first to end their series was the Marshall Stars, winning 3-1 and ending their series against the National City Gulls 4-0.  The River City Otters also won their series 4-0 as the second team to end their series.  The Medaille Mavericks ended their series 4-1 against the Killerwhales; even Luongo couldn't sort whether which puck was in or not.  Earlton and Rorysville, champions of the Don Cherry, ended their series on the same day, both 4-2.  The Sephora Stingers and the Shaktar Kholodno also ended their series 4-2 on the next day. As said earlier, the New London Flames ended their 4-3 series with an outstanding 6-5 OT win.  The first rounds finished, the second round series have been set.  Medaille will play the tough Rorysville Frostbite in series 'I', Earlton will play the Sephora Tridents, Marshall will play Shaktar, and last but not least the River City Otters face the New  London Flames.  On the 21st of May, the first games of the semifinals will be played and the second round excitement will begin!!!

    From KSTS Sports in Marshall

The first round done, Marshall will be moving on to their second round against the  Shaktar Kholodno, who dominate the STHL's Russian division.  On Saturday the 18th, it was announced that the Marshall Stars will be playing the Shakhtar Kholodno, who had recently won their series against the Metallurg Most 4-2.  They will play their first game against each other on May 22nd; in at least 4 games, a winner will be decided.  Now let's take a look at the two teams' history in their first series: the Marshall Stars ended their first series 4-0 against the National City Gulls, who seemingly lacked their competition in the four games played.  National City will be moving to another city next season, but another organization will be formed for National City as well.  The Shaktar Kholodno were a very tough team, although the Metallurg Most did give them a good challenge.  The Shakhtar, a team that can score many goals in many games, found their games to be very challenging, and are looking forward to facing the Stars.  Stars' player Kovalchuk has been a bit laid back with the goals, although other players have somewhat compensated for this.  Nevertheless, GM David Glen has issued extra practices on Thursdays, believing that facing the Shakhtar will be a challenge.  It is a wait of only a few days before Thursday the 22nd, when the puck will be dropped on the ice to officially commence the series!!!

    NEWS FLASH

    Stars nail down Shakhtar 4-0!!!

"Stars, hoping for an extra challenge against Kholodno, came out of the series 4-0 once again"

Although top Star Kovalchuk has really been laid back and has not scored or assisted tonight like in the last few days, that didn't change the Stars' overall performance tonight.  The Stars, winning against the Shakhtar Kholodno 6-3, have put them onto the elimination bench and have moved further on in the playoffs!  While Earlton and Rorysville finished their series (also 4-0) first, the Stars seem to have been more excited than Earlton and Rorysville put together.  Why?  MAR-NCG, 4-0.  This is their second playoff series in a row where they had also won 4-0, and this is the first time in STHL history that this has happened.  The Stars have had many firsts in the STHL and have broke many records, including Kovalchuk's 51-goal record.  "Their first season in the STHL is but another first for the Stars; so is their reputation as one of the first in excellence and performance" GM David Glen stated proudly; he himself has been nominated for the STHL's Burgess award for most outstanding general manager in the league.  He's also stated where the construction site of the new Midwest Spirit Arena will be, and that construction on the new arena will commence in mid-June.  For the Stars, Brind'Amour, Gamache, Tenute and Halpern each scored once while Ryan Shannon scored twice against a well-performed Roloson.  He states that although he did his best, his summer will be spent on practicing to better himself for not only his team and fans but for him as well.  The Marshall Stars will move on to the conference Semifinals against the Earlton Emperors, which GM David Glen believes will be a good challenge for the Stars.  He thought the Gulls seemed to have no competition; maybe they did, and that the real challenge was for the Gulls, who were defeated ever so blindly by the shining Stars.  This is the same for Shakhtar, and it's until next season for them.  For the Stars, either they get eliminated by Earlton or defeat Earlton and move on to the final challenge where they hope to claim the Gretzky Cup for themselves as another first in their STHL career!

I'm sure that you are all seeing the damage that has been done to this thread during the outage...

As a result of more time spent on the MD-80, the update continues to be delayed... even I am not happy about this.  I'll have to put off loads of time so I can get an update by the weekend.  For now...

Introducing a new line of... graphics!!! 21.gif

    sthlgraphic01nf0.jpg

In the beginning of this long season there was the bustle and hustle of competition and it was evident that this would unfold into the last teams in the biggest challenge.  The Bobby Orr received mostly new teams to join the STHL.  Two teams, both having joined the league this year, are facing it off in the conference finals.  The Earlton Emperors and Marshall Stars are all but unprepared for this challenge that awaits them, and the fight will be a most exciting one.  These two teams have both dominated in the regular season, fueled by their legendary offensive lines.  The Earlton Emperors celebrate the return of Marion Hossa, and also boast other young greats including Sidney Crosby and Milan Michalek.  As well, Earlton is backed up by their star goalie, Evengi Nabokov.  Look at the Stars: shining bright and blinding the other unfortunate teams.  They have set many records this season; they boast the first scorer of 50 goals and are the first to go completely undefeated in two playoff series.  Their top line of Ilya Kovalchuk, Rod Brind'Amour and late-season addition Brett Hull has proved their strength, leading the way in a mountain of challenges.  Imagine what would happen if these two teams collided into one of the most exciting conference finals in the STHL.  Two great teams, one winner and possible candidate for the Gretzky Cup.  Just a single spark could ignite into a huge fireball of excitement, as if the arena was filled with natural gas!  While Earlton has won both of their games against Marshall during the season, Marshall's reputation as undefeated during the playoffs could prove that the regular season is a whole lot different than the playoffs.  29 Crowns and 29 Stars will begin their fights on Wednesday night, while the day before the Rorysville-River City games will have been played.  In at least 5 days, there will be the games.  And in the games, there will be goals, and there will be saves.  There will be pucks, and there will be ice.  There will be hits, and there will be fights.  And there will be the unstoppable action that will ignite into an unforgettable series!!!

That's not all.  For these conference finals and on, a new Era in the STHL will begin as all 4 teams will feature custom Uniforms, Ice and Arenas in game!  So stay tuned as the STHL Network will bring you all the action!  We've waited long for this, and we're finally ready.  ARE YOU?

    sthlgraphic02game2kj1.jpg

Payback time!  After flunking a 3-0 lead in their last game and losing it to the Emperors 4-3, they have gotten some real payback, only this time each of the four goals were theirs.  Chris Osgood performed amazingly and made 22 saves; the Stars won the game 4-0 and have tied the series 1-1.  The first and second period scoreless, it's quite surprising how each of the four goals unfolded within the last 9 minutes of the game.  Joey Tenute began the scoring and seemed to just whack the puck into the net; Per-Johan Axelsson followed Tenute 3 minutes and 7 seconds afterwards, the three forwards ramming their way past the defenses.  Later in the period, the lead line was able to come out, and Ilya Kovalchuk, top Star of the season, managed to go dipsee-doodle and slap that puck into the net, just 59 seconds left in the game.  Talk about late slap-ins... only 6 seconds left and Dwayne Norris was able to push one in, speeding his way past both defensemen and scoring on a breakaway.  By then Earlton was certain they wouldn't win, and Marshall left Earlton that night very happy.  Stars GM David Glen stated it was quite odd to 'wait for the right time' to score all four goals, and was seen stepping outside the arena with a big grin on his face.  The next two games will return to Marshall as the Stars face the Emperors for the third and fourth time in this series, where the series will rage on and the winners be decided; in the coming time, the series winner will be introduced to the winner of the other series in the last and most important part of the league itself: the Gretzky Cup playoffs!!!
