Greater Marsalia Region, City at the Mediterranean

Hey,

Great looking region, the updates so far are very nice. you managed to get a good looking combination of the older parts of the city, and new build city blocks, something i've rarely seen so far.

i've got a question though; where did you get the pedestrian paths, that go through your parks (seen in pics of unscedualed update)

lovely! quite inspiring, i might try my hand at mediterranean sometime

for res plops i suggest zoning the area first with residential (make sure it has water access etc...) and try plopping it on zoned land. most of the time it works but for the same reason that its likely to abandon i dont like to use functional plops too

Jeronij, Frogface, theblademaster, rooker1, jacqualina, sloppet and NicolaiS, I am truly honoured to have attained the attention of all of you. Thank you for your comments and support. 

 

Jeronij and Frogface, your work is displayed frequently in my cities, you will notice it for sure.

 

Theblademaster, the park lots are of Jeronij, you will find the link to them in his signature, in fact.

 

I won't have time to update tomorrow, as I thought, so I whipped it up at work, pictures I had ready fortunately here on my machine.

 

 

Our tour continues to the southern suburb of Mazargues. Mazargues is the southern extension of Marsalia, densely populated and mostly a commuter community. Its location on the seaside obviously attracts some businesses, and the dwellers are happy to have even the southernmost tram line at their disposal.

 

 

The city management has placed a part of the administration activities in Mazargues, next to the quiet (I hope) graveyard.

 

However, the biggest reason for the SIMizens of Mazargues to be proud of is their magnificent park along the La Huveneau river mouth. You can imagine the pleasure of the SIMizens and tourists to Marsalia region when they can feel the slight fog on their cheeks from the Mazargues waterfall (and duly credit goes to Pegasus, who has created these wonderful BATs for us all to use). No wonder that everybody flocks here after visiting the city center La Vieille Ville.

On La Huveneau river you can also see the start of the Marsalia University System (MUS), which has actually tens of thousands of students. You will find the medical and dental sciences in the campus in the picture. Other campuses (on next update) house a vast variety of studies like the 'soft sciences' of philologies (special emphasis on SIM version of Romance languages, Arabic, Armenian, but also Germanic languages like English, Dutch, German and Scandinavian languages), classical and modern philosophy, social sciences and politology; but also 'hard sciences' of technologies or industrial information technology and nuclear energy studies with
special attention to new fusion technology, not forgetting business studies and economics.

Dear AleKing and Debussyman, many thanks for your comments! I suppose I am more excited to have my updates done, even if there is just a few comments... what can a newcomer otherwise expect?

So... here is my:

 

Le Cabot is the main campus area for the Marsalia University System (MUS). The MUS Administration department is located in the beautiful Brazilian style building, very close to the philologies department and the main building of MUS Library System (MUSLiSys). Next to the main MUS campus is the student village with services such as student health care, small shops and of course pubs and bars, without which student life would be probably meaningless

During a botanical experiment from MUS botanical studies department, there are some leftovers of huge Ponderosa pines (next update), which are not really native to Europe at all, but do give a very nice subject for nature lovers - or maybe it is the visitors which are subject to studies (by MUS psychological and behavioural students?)?

This is turning out to be a great cj ... I like it a lot. The combination of buildings in certain area's combine very nicely. Transportation lay-out is superb and looks very realistic.

Wow, our member of the month! I am so happy, DragonAnime that you have noticed my young CJ.

I have tried to give something new to how CJs are represented, and I cannot remember anybody glueing neighboring cities together like I do. Mosaics I have already seen, and thanks to jeronij, I saw how well these can work together to have a good overall view.

 

With SC, I have felt so limited to that square where I am creating my city, that I have had since a long time had a desire to 'look over the other side of the fence' and see how the neighbouring community is doing. With creation of this CJ, even I am having completely new experience, mind you that I play SC4 since the date in was launched to the market, which is for some time ago now

Now it is time to bad quality (time is running out):

 

 

Leaving the MYS campus, we quickly hover over Le Cabot Centre to follow La Huveneau river towards Saint Marcel to see the new fusion technology test site which you will see in one of the next updates.

On the way you will see pretty successful Le Cabot Centre with Marsalia Open Air Symphony, and the famous Marsalia Round Pavillion, which is also dedicated to music, due to the specially conceived acoustics. Le Cabot also considering to organize the 1st MarMed Jazz Festival.

Also you see how some of the wealthier Marsalians live in their leafy suburbs (banlieu chic; when used just the word banlieu; by the way direct translation in English is suburb, it means more like a ghetto in the US). I wouldn't mind living there - alas my financial situation really doesn't permit me to live like that

Debussyman : I wasn't entirely happy with my update this morning... I ran out of time, and I couldn't really perfect my picture. The mosaic is not what it should be.

 

DragonAnime : I try to spice my CJ with little things, like my logo. Glad you liked it

 

I think I won't update tomorrow, because I'd like to perfect my next update. I have some good ideas to use, like the newest GLR station, which seems to fit perfectly with what I have in my mind. How about some nightshots of suburbs, metro/tramway/train network plan?

And are those Roundabouts? ohh, neato. they dont look like one could do then ingame, but i guess i shall try it out now, cous that is a great way to itersect several roads, well, it seems to be the European way anyway.

Well, I live in Belgium and now in summer it is GMT +2, but where I come from originally it was also GMT +2 in winter, ie. Finland...

Department, along with the Nuclear Technology Test Site.

Saint Marcel is in the process of transforming from early 20th century suburb to very high
fashion and avant-gardist technology center by its own right. Surprisingly modern and old
architecture fit surprisingly well together - and students have been able to show to the
conservative critics that they CAN also urban planning - with the aid of their benevolent
mayor Mickebear of course.

In Saint Marcel, where we are now, a lot has been done by the architecture students (like
JEC, see the magnificent light rail stops).
