I was waiting for the dust to settle before buying either. Now I will only wait another year or two before buying a Blu-ray.

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

I'm hoping this won't turn out like the betamax vs. VHS format war of the 80s. Betamax was a superiour product, and yet lost out to VHS still came out on top.

In the meanwhile, I'm going to stick with DVD's as long as I can. I just don't see the reason for buying a disk that can hold 50GB+

Honestly, I've never really cared about the whole HDDVD vs Blu-Ray "war", for me, my preference has been clear from day one: neither. Plain old DVDs suit me just fine, thank you. And you can play those with a whole slew of different things, and get all kinds of things in that format.

Besides, just because Blu-Ray has beaten HDDVD, it doesn't make you any smarter for having bought a PS3. The point still stands that it's too freaking expensive. If the price can come down into the $250 US range (the price of a certain other, far superior gaming console2.gif), then it'd be smarter. Sorry, but I just don't see the logic in paying twice as much money for the console and ten times as much money for the TV to be able to more clearly notice the individual hairs on someone's head. I have seen HDTVs, and they are certainly of superior quality, but the extra cost makes it simply not worth it- at least to me. Unfortunately, for a lot of people it's a pissing contest and a huge train of me too-ism. "Joe has a 40 inch HDTV? I need to go get a 42 inch one!", and this goes regardless of how capable they are of really affording the damn thing. People buy them even when they really shouldn't given their current financial state. But what can I say, boys will be boys....21.gif

For a game console, yes, PS3 is expensive. As a Blu-ray player, it's pretty reasonable. 4.gif I'll be getting one eventually.

But as for whether or not to buy one? Well, that depends on whether or not you're a videophile. I guess I get it from my mother, but I love high quality video. That's why I never fully embraced DVD. I always thought the chrominance and luminence of laserdisc was much better. But then, I notice these things.

So, hooray for blu-ray! Sony needed a win, big time. 9.gif Beta, MD, Trinitron... FAIL

blu-ray... finally a win! 3.gif

Duke, you should make an HD DVD player with a fork in it like you did with Giuliani. 3.gif

Duke: Right again...now you're scaring me.

Well, since it wouldn't really be obvious looking at it that it's an HDDVD player and not a Blu-Ray or DVD player, I'm going to vary that theme a bit and go with something that sends the message more clearly:

forkinhddvdmv7.png

And since this is an oh so popular idea, lemme put out a do it yourself kit. Here's the fork. Feel free to stick it in anything:

Let's make a meme out of it!10.gif

(I knew saving just the fork without Giuliani as a seperate file would come in handy...)

LOL, looks like the cosmetic industry is taking advantage of this win too:

    The image

Could this come at a more random time??  I saw an article about this when I was reading the newspaper.

-Then again, I guess HD-DVD isn't a good name for make up.

-Then again, I'm a dude, so I really don't know anything about make up in general.  3.gif

Er, no. You don't know what a meme is? Here's a hint: All Your Base was a meme. Numa Numa was a meme. Of course, memes (is that the proper pluralization?) need not be so global, a site can have a local meme. So what I'm suggesting is basically that a fad of people sticking forks in things ensues. Got it?

I was joking, Duke. I am fully aware of what a meme is. C'mon, gimme some credit here! That's what i get for forgetting to add a 'j/k' to it. You're not the only brainiac here, y'know.2.gif

    But wait, there's more!

Sony is among 30 companies being sued for patent infringement on Blu-Ray technology.

Seems like someone is always getting sued over some kind of technology. 95% of the time, the cases go nowhere. I don't expect that one to go anywhere either.

It'll probably get a lot of press attention though. 3.gif
