Awesome port there I love all the details. One thing I would try and improve is the recreation area it just looks a bit out of place dont know why

Those are some nice seaports and marinas. Thanx for the info on the SC Terraformer. I have this program. It's just the way you've designed it looks really great.

Jeez! Thats some amazing work you have done there... The port is awesome! I like the mix of recreational and industrial purposes on your waterfronts, Ive seen that a lot in real life too! Keep it coming...

This is a pretty cool idea, creating an accurate rendition of your SC3K city. I think you've done a sensational job so far! Your terraforming work was really nice, and the port looks great. The overview shot looks very busy with all of the ships placed around. Easily one of the best port areas I've seen. Those are good teaser pictures, and I happen to recognize the last one from somewhere... 3.gif Keep up the excellent work, I can't wait for more!

Those are beautiful pictures! I especially like how the main building in the shot is in focus and everything else seems blurred.

    Sorry, Guys!

This isn't a real update...I'm just replying to all of these comments  you guys gave me, then I'll ask a few questions, then I'll give you just a couple of pictures to tide you over until a real update.

    RepliesBanner800x234.jpg

    bbfan02 -

Thanks!  Glad you liked the port, and I'm glad you're liking the pictures so far.  Hopefully you'll like what else is coming...2.gif

    edmonton_stinks -

Wow...thank you 43.gif!  I'm glad you liked it!  And as for that tower...well, that's not really a condo, that's a commercial building.  That road is called...well, you'll see...2.gif.  Thanks for stopping by!

    Mulefisk -

Heh heh...you know, because you said that, I entered that last picture into the contest.  Got to round 2, then fizzled to Shadow Assassin's picture.  LOL...still, I do think there's just something about that picture...and I don't know what it is.  But anyways, it's cool that you took the time to come in and say hi!  I do hope you'll come back...

    jacqulina -

Thanks!  I tried to make it as best as I could...I'm glad you like it!  Although...I know you also like greenery.  I'm trying my best to keep that in the city as well, through parks and just open areas.  Hopefully you'll like what I have coming up, as well!

    penguin007 -

Hey!  Glad you're liking it so far.  I thought the recreational harbor was out of place in the beginning, as well, but most industrial ports actually have them really closeby, so it was, "Well...it's on the other side...."  I suppose I just got used to seeing it there...oh, well.  Thanks for the constructive criticism, though!  It's really appreciated from me, because, well, I need it! 3.gif

    suplado! -

Welcome back!  Thank you for the compliments!  Heh heh...yeah, I like that picture, as well.  The effect actually reminds me a bit of your style, except slightly more blurry...but maybe that's only because of PEG's lots in there...hmm...anyways, thanks for stopping by again!

    mentarman -

Thanks!  I'm glad you like it.  Maybe you'll see something else you like?  Who knows...hopefully I'll see you back in here again.

    KingTitan -

Thank you!  Heh heh..."just what is needed"...trust me, you won't say that when we get to Project #2 3.gif!  I'm really happy you enjoyed this update, though.  Your comment made me feel good 1.gif.  Hope you enjoy what's still ahead!

    bobinator -

Thanks!  I'm glad you liked those suburbs, but that's from a different region that is now defunct.  However, I do have some different suburbs-in-hills coming up some day soon...I hope you enjoy them whenever they get here.

    anarchy0029 -

Ahh, I understand.  Thanks for your comments!  I'm glad you liked the port.

    Geronimo -

Thank you!  The rec/industrial mix was another thing I took away from emilin's Seaport Tutorial.  I'm glad you like it!  I'll keep it coming if you keep coming 2.gif...

    Voulpiotis -

LOL...you wrote that as you were going through my updates so far, didn't you?  Yeah, it's a very small region...only the size of 2x2 large city tiles.  We'll see if I can fit my goal into a space that small and still have room to try out new things...thanks for comin' round!

    aleking -

Ahh, hello!  Very nice to see you in here!  I'm glad you're liking it so far.  The whole city is basically planned, because it's from an old SC3K city (as you saw).  So yeah, it's nice and thought out already...though there are still a lot of things I have to learn, not only about how to play this game, but how to present things in a CJ.  Still...it's a nice surprise (and a big confidence booster) to have you drop by.  Thanks!  Feel free to stop by again anytime!

    ky72x -

Hello, Kyle!  Yeah, you might recognize that picture from somewhere else (thanks for your vote, by the way, even if it was ultimately in vain) 2.gif.  There are so many different pictures I want to put into the competition that I haven't simply because I don't want to spoil them for this CJ...but that's a good thing, isn't it?  Don't know...LOL...but thanks for stopping by!

    jrone3 -

Ahh, thank you!  Yeah, that sort of focused-foreground, blurred-background effect is something I do quite often on pictures nowadays...in fact, you'll see that in the next update.  Hope to see you then!

    All Right!

I just want to thank you guys for all the comments you've left so far.  You guys are helping this thing grow faster than I ever thought it would.  Almost faster than I can build...which is a good thing!  So yes...thank you all!

I did want to ask you a question or two, however.

Do you guys like the presentation of the pictures?  I mean, do you like the border, the captions, etc.?  I'm still rather new at this whole CJ'ing thing, so any bit of advice that might help it succeed would be greatly appreciated.  Nardo69 of SC4D, for example, suggested that I number photographs if I have quite a few (as I did last update) to help identify a picture when someone comments, so I'll start doing that.  Any sort of advice like that would also be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

As it is...I have a bit of a problem.  Observe:

    TPingsaproblemroundtheseparts.jpg

I've heard from Mrs. Hayman around the block that there were vandals around TP'ing trees in the neighborhood.  This is the sort of thing you'd expect in, say, The Land of Darkness...not here in Fordville!  The Watch Group is getting restless, because they can't catch these guys in the act.  The problem is...these guys have such a large area they could spread out to.  Observe:

    Wideshotofthesuburbs800x563.jpg

We'll see whether these guys can get caught or not....

(Heh heh...sorry, but I don't like showing teasers that show something important.  These don't really show anything that important...2.gif).

    Until next time!

I agree too with jacky. I reallyenjoy your CJ and it will definitely be added to a "Must See" in my signature after I have looked at some CJ's. I have so many fav's. However, I suggest doing it the way YOU wnat. like borders and stuff, takes more time. I'd stay consistand with pic dimensions etc... I think it's all fine and dandy so far. Just keep up the good work there pal. 4.gif

Lousy vandals! Nice job on the unimportant teasers.

I think the picture presentation is fine. At least you don't have that garish "pause" border.

Wow, nice work here! Like you, I'm not a frequenter to the CJs because RL takes over so much that I barely have time to even come onto this site, but you'll probably be happy to know that this is the first CJ I've commented on in MONTHS!! I'm glad you could get a nice city in SC3K because I never could. I finally got hold of actually growing a nice city in SC4 without cheats, but there are people obviously better than me at the whole city-building thing. Such is you, so far as I've seen, and many great others. Your seaport is AMAZING with lots and lots of detail, which is exactly what I like. I'll spend hours just trying to get a section of my city just perfect with the smallest of details, so I definitely love them. As for your picture presentation, it's just fine. I do remember seeing one with the grid showing, so just remember to turn off that grid when taking pictures. Well, I'll be watching this CJ, and good luck with it!

Thank you!  Heh heh...I'm glad you like it so far.  I've got some things coming up that I hope you'll like, as well.  Thanks for commenting! 43.gif

    KingTitan -

Ahh, that would awesome!  I'm happy you're enjoying it...maybe I'm doing something right, here?  And I think you're right...I think I'll just stick with my plain old border...sometimes 2.gif.  Still, thanks for comment.  Feel free to stop by any time!

    Geronimo -

You think so?  Well...maybe I'll keep it, then.  And as you'll see in this update, those vandals just get worse and worse...22.gif

    vitorhnn -

    I'll try this in Portuguese...

Obrigado pela seu comentário.  Volte em breve!  (Sinta-se livre para escrever em Português se é mais fácil! 44.gif)

Was that okay?  I used Google Translator...41.gif

    edmonton_stinks -

Yeah, those thugs spread their Charmin far and wide...you'll see in this update.  As for the presentation...well, maybe there's no pause border (thanks to thequiltedllama), but as you'll see in future updates, sometimes I forget to turn off the U-Drive-It icons, sometimes I forget to turn off the grid, sometimes I even forget to turn off the route queries...45.gif!  But you won't be subjected to those horrors until later...2.gif

    bbfan02-

Thanks for your comment!  Glad you liked that teaser...unfortunately, that update is a long while off.  Still, hopefully you'll like what you see between now and then.  Come back soon!

    cityhawk -

Are you serious?  The first one in months?  Awesome, thank you !!!  I'm honored 43.gif...I always thought you were a big CJ person...don't know why.  Then again...I haven't seen you around in a while, so I guess I wouldn't know.  Thanks for your comments on the seaport...I'm glad you liked it!  I don't know if that whole "city-building thing" statement is true, though...this is only my second city, and if you stick around, you'll see how my crappy planning leads to massive problems 14.gif.  But you did remind me of something I have yet to do...probably won't happen this update, however.

Thanks for coming by!  I hope you'll end up a frequent visitor!

    jrone3 -

Heh heh, thanks!  Unfortunately...that particular update is still a long ways off...34.gif.  Still, thank you for the compliment!

UPDATE 2 - Building the Rest of the Town

    This should be interesting...hopefully...

First, I'd like to apologize.  I'm about to break a promise that I made last update...you know, that one where I said that this update wouldn't have near as many pictures?  Well...as it turned out, that was a lie.  This update has almost the exact same amount of pictures, although not so many showcase pics.  Still...it might be a lot to take in, so read slowly...2.gif

Now then...to start out, I have a few SC3K photos to share:

    1.)

    Randomsuburbshot.jpg

This is the area that I will be transposing to SC4 right now.  Mainly, it's just a strip of low-density residential that connects the seaport with a square of Mid-density commerce.  And there's a beach.  And the beach has a Mayor's Statue on it.  Why?  Simple: in SC3K, I used Mayor's statues as markers to name certain places that I couldn't otherwise name.  Because of that statue, that beach is actually known as Royal Beach.  As you can see, it's the beach with the classic lighthouse at one end of it...that's something I wanted to bring out in SC4.

    2.)

    SeaportLocationRelation.jpg

This is the seaport in relation to the residential.  That...that's it.  Yeah.

In the previous version of this region, Royal Beach was one of my favorite areas (see "Greetings From Paradise" photo of Update 1).  I tried doing something like the same thing here:

    3.)

    Workingonthebeach.jpg

The grid was purposely left on...

That's a double-tile slope, there...didn't quite work for me.  Neither did the grass and trees at the base, there.  So I ran into the Lot Editor to try my hand in creating my own...

    4.)

    CreatingtheBeach800x500.jpg

    5.)

    CreatingtheBeach2.jpg

Repeat after me: Goldiva is my friend...

A little better, eh?  Maybe...but it'll actually pose a problem later.

Enough of that, for now, though.  Since the beach was set up kinda the way I wanted it, I could make the rest of the town.  We've got some progress pictures for this:

    6.)

    Progress800x500.jpg

This is almost the entire town.  It was sooo much smaller than I expected, actually...oh, well.  North of the seaport will be industry; to the east will be residential.  Also, notice how the beach goes off into the next town...

    7.)

    Progress2800x500.jpg

Just threw down some streets in my wild suburban way.  Something interesting happened when I built that street going up the east side of the hill.  Usually I hate cliffs made by streets, but for some reason, that one looked all right.  You'll see close-ups of that area in a second, and you'll see me try to replicate the effect in a (not-so-distant) future update.

By the way, at the time, I didn't know how to turn off that graphical glitch with the beach without leaving and re-entering the town.  I know how to now...but by the time I learned, it was too late to re-take these pictures.

    8.)

    Progress3800x600.jpg

...and zoning.  Light most of the places, medium along the avenues.

Don't know if you've noticed, but I'm trying to use as much custom content as possible.  Because of space restraints, I could only use the Maxis High Schools, but I ended up throwing down a few custom buildings and parks that you'll see in a second.

BUT FIRST!  Let's see what develops, eh 2.gif? (Wow...that's the second-worse pun I've come up with this week...45.gif).

    9.)

    SuburbanPanorama800x563.jpg

Forgot to adjust the contrast of this one...oops...

Not bad!...to me, anyways.  Closer look, eh?

    10.)

    JustlovethatjustanothersimLibrary.jpg

    Just love that justanothersim library!

    11.)

    ThelocalPigStye800x500.jpg

The local pig sty...I mean, Krispy Kreme...

    12.)

    SuburbsAbound800x563.jpg

    Ahh!  Gascooker!

You have no idea...right before I started this CJ, I went on a MASSIVE residential BAT hunt, looking for mainly large packs of nice, somewhat-generic-looking modular homes (and by generic, I simply mean that they'd look fine in any neighborhood).  Mixed with the small Maxis homes, it's actually kind of hard to find two houses right next to each other that are exactly the same.  Let's compare, shall we?

    13.)

    OrchardValleyRedux.jpg

One of my earlier suburban communities...

    14.)

    Atthebaseofthehill800x500.jpg

Suburbs in this town.  Can you notice any difference?

That was a trick question.  I'm actually trying to build more suburbs like (13) in Fordville.  But this is a good sign...at least there's more variety in what I have now...

Anyways, let's take a look at that hill, eh?

    15.)

    Randomsuburbanoverview.jpg

Look on the right side of the hill...yeah, right there...

    16.)

    KingoftheHills800x500.jpg

    The TP bandits strike again!

So this is the Vista Hill home community.  It is from this uniquely positioned housing area that I got this picture:

    17.)

    KingoftheHillflipped800x563.jpg

    Ahh, there's my beloved border!

Might be familiar to some people...2.gif

Well...I've been neglecting one area of town, but I suppose I can't any longer.  So how about we go back towards the seaport and visit that industrial area...

    18.)

    TheIndustrialArea800x563-1.jpg

This is the layout.  Nardo69 of SC4D doesn't quite like it...but that's what I've got for now.  So I'll work with it.  By the way, you like that hospital I randomly added there?

    19.)

    TheIndustrialAreabeingbuilt.jpg

Added a nice residential area...need to find out what to do with the undeveloped coast there.  I tell you now, that industrial area just gets worse and worse as time progresses 14.gif...

    BREAKING NEWS!!!

After scanning the area for any more signs of the TP bandits, I've uncovered something much worse:

    20.)

    AssaultCase1.jpg

ASSAULT!  We'll zoom into the affected area...the seaport:

    21.)

    AssaultCase2.jpg

So that's where it happened.  Maybe the perpetrator is still around...let's get a closer look:

    22.)

    AssaultCase3.jpg

Look!  That's gotta be him, there's no one else around!  Someone call the police, go nab that guy!  Hurry up!!!

    ...

    ...

Where are the police!  This guy could walk away at anytime, where is my police force!?

    23.)

    AssaultCase4.jpg

    Oh, brother 34.gif.

Now back to  your regularly scheduled update...

Just so no one skins me alive, contrary to what people might believe after reading this update, I actually have the utmost respect for Police Officers.  Don't take the previous the wrong way...it was just a pretty un-funny joke...20.gif

But while we're on that side of town...

    24.)

    Bytheseashore.jpg

    Just some random picture.

All right...this update's coming to a close soon (finally!!!).  I just have to show a few more things...

Here's the commercial area mentioned 3 miles ago at the beginning of the update:

    25.)

    Seasidecommercialdistrict.jpg

And here's how it translates to this region:

    26.)

    Bothersomecommercialarea.jpg

Small area...but it falls right on the corner of four different city tiles.  Bothersome, to say the least.  Still, I can't ignore it.  This particular commercial area is home to the nationally known Market Street, where they host many parades and where many mid-level stores have started and grown from.

    27.)

    AStrollDownMarketStreet-1.jpg

Unfortunately, it won't look like that for long...15.gif

Here's the entire city as it looks at this point:

    28.)

    Thewholeshebang800x600.jpg

Notice how the beach was never quite finished.  It was supposed to be lined with resorts, but I decided against it, because that job went to a certain other beach...

    22.gif

...but now I don't know what to do with it.  If anyone has any suggestions as to how I can fill that space, let me know (because it's still there...).

Here's the city from the region view:

    29.)

    RegionOverview-OneCitycomplete800x5.jpg

And finally, here's a teaser picture for next update:

    30.)

    ConstructingtheBridge-Freewayononei.jpg

Straight from Filasimo's bag-o-tricks...I'll have to consult him on how to actually do this properly.

Next time, I'll give you guys information I should've given at the very beginning, and figuring out what to do with this bridge.  I'll expect it to be a small update, but I'm not promising anything anymore...41.gif.

Congratulations!  You made it to the end.  I can't believe it, either.  But hey...you've read this all the way through...why not try War and Peace next 2.gif?

    I'm done typing.

I see that Condor Bay is coming along well! Very nice job with the residential development, it turned out great. Usually when someone develops on a hill, it turns out all ugly and lumpy. Although yours shows some symptoms of that, I have to say that its barely noticeable. The wide variety of houses is also a huge plus for this update.

Whoa man, masochist, you sure know how to pack a page. One of the first thing I noticed was your interesting use of Simcity 3000 pictures. Your beaches look very nice upclose, but one of the few down sides in your pictures in your jagged far away shots. The buildings you used have a great variety and go along well with the mountianous terrain in your city. My favorite part of the city has to be the way the residential areas snake up into the moutians, it looks amazing. You have a few jagged edges you may want to work on, but other then that, you've done a fantastic job, good luck with future updates!

Thank You for the Continued Support!

Simtropolis depends on donations to fund site maintenance costs.
Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

    STEX Collections

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
