Although this is rather an old article, it will be interesting to talk about anyway.

A restuarant called Serendipity 3 set the Guinness record for the most expensive dessert which cost $25.000... the reason being was that it was sprinkled with edible gold. The picture pretty much explains the dessert:

NOTE: The restuarant was closed down this month for rodent problems. 18.gif

It does look disgusting, I saw this on TV a few weeks ago and it didn't look that nice even then.

On a different note, Belfast still holds the record for the World's Most Expensive*****tail, prepared at the Merchant Hotel, which is just gorgeous. 4.gif

Yeah...they have this. For what?

"Oh! Edible gold! Lets eat it because we are snobs!"

That could have helped make a shelter for the poor or something.

Silly people its $25,000 because you get to keep the cup. 19.gif

So if its edible it's not real gold right?

or is that just me?

As I've heard it explained, if the particles are small enough, they can use real gold and you can consume it, though digesting it might be something else entirely.

It is real gold, it's made by using gold leaf which is unbelievably thin pieces of nearly pure gold, which to be be honest is not that expensive in fact very reasonable. We have some in our kitchen, it's not that expensive and is mainly used to add a final touch to meals/desserts.

The reason for the price is the jewellery you get with it (making the claim somewhat false) like some expensive c0cktails that have a ring or diamond necklace dropped in. Belfast's c0cktail is the most expensive solely based on the alcohol used some of the rarest in the world.

But yes you can eat gold as long as it is gold dust (used in c0cktails) or gold leaf

Not only can you eat gold, you can also have it injected into your veins. There are people who take intervenous injections of colloidial gold for arthritis and some other ailments. Thirty or forty years ago it was considered an "alternative treatment", but over the years, many people have begun using it. Whether it works or not is a subject that has been debated for years, but many people swear by it. A doctor once told me that the big pharmaceutical companies are against it because it's pretty easy and straightforward to make and use and they also don't like their other drug products to be "more expensive than gold", which many are! If they admit that it works, then they wouldn't have to keep on "spending" billions of dollars on research and development for new drugs that they can use to rob both the consumers and the insurance companies.

As far as this dessert, I saw something about this on TV a couple of months ago. This restaurant (I think it's the same one, but I'm not really certain) had a bunch of high priced desserts. I THOUGHT that they had one that was more than $25k, though. I seem to remember the announcer talking with the chef and mentioning $100,000, but maybe that was for the whole meal and not just for dessert.

As for the taste, I've eaten gold in a few forms. It tastes like "metallic dirt", if that makes any sense. I don't know how else to describe it. It definitely isn't "tasty" and it certainly doesn't taste like food, much less dessert. If any of you out there that are into alternative and natural medicine have used Etherium Gold, you know what gold tastes like. In fact, the "taste" turns so many people off that they came out with a homeopathic spray that is used sublingually and not only doesn't it have the gritty dirt sensation, but it also is said to actually absorb better and get into the bloodstream more effectively. (If you want to know more about the stuff and what it's used for, Google "Etherium Gold" and check out the product and the articles. I can't recall offhand the company that makes it, sorry.) There's a bit of hype involved and some of the claims seem a bit wild, but I can tell you that I used it for several years and it DID work for me! When I stopped taking it, I definitely noticed a difference.)

Yeah, it's the jewelry that comes with it that makes the cost.  But also the rare chocolate

But the funniest thing about this, is what I read in another article.  But it's just an "upgrade" to another desert on their menu that costs 8.50.  Still expensive for a desert though!

Even if it did come with jewlery, it would be stupid to buy, most jewlery doesn't cost $25,000.

Maybe the restaurateur is trying to trick customers into thinking that they are ordering a chocolate mousse!  9.gif

I've eaten something that looked exactly the same, gold and everything, and it was only 100 bucks. I didn't get to keep the cup though.

I can assure you, jewellery costs that and a hell of a lot more. That's only about £12,500 could give you many examples of watches and rings etc etc costing that and more.
