^ Look at his sig, it says "New Relicity: Home of the Grid". I think he meant it to be griddy. 30.gif

Some plazas would look nice though. A extended freeway would look nice as well. 4.gif

I don't think they are all plopped, either. Looks nice overall! 9.gif

Here are my downtown views using a Vancouver, BC map I got off of this site. The last pick is obviously from a region standpoint to give you an idea of what the big picture looks like so far.

A few questions from a new member. 1: What does CJ mean? 2: How do you insert pictures of your downtowns and not tiny thumbnails that lead to them? Mine is barely visible.

1. CJ means City Journal.

2. Upload your image (after you resize it down to 800x600px, and change it from a PNG to a JPG) to a host like Imageshack, copy the link where it says "Direct Link to Image" at the bottom, click the image button in your post, and paste the link into the URL box.

Confession time! No, this isn't my best downtown view. It's not even downtown Domning! Yes, the plopmod was used. Yes, the N.A.M. was (obviously) used. It might be my best city, despite some traffic congestion issues. At 156,394, it is now my biggest city. Domning uses a municipal airport. Trusperaton is my only city that has an international airport. When I established Trusperaton, it was built far away from the large group of connected cities. I started doing a "line" of cities toward Trusperaton to bring up its RCI demand. Domning was the final link to Trusperaton. With Birch Wood City being to the south and Trusperaton being to the east of Domning, these three massive cities (pop. 150k+) make up nearly 1/4 of the region's population. Domning's nickname: elevated city.

Other facts: Before I downloaded and used the N.A.M., Domning was actually one of the worst cities I had established. Traffic in the south-western residential district was all red. Unfortunately, the roads there were surrounded by residential skyscrapers full of commuters that used those roads. If the roads were expanded to avenues, they wouldn't be used enough, and would result in a huge waste of money. Besides, I now know by experience from Trusperaton's residential district that avenues don't do too well in front of residential buildings. When Domning finally turned for the better (I don't know what happened), its finances went up, allowing me to put up a subway link from the residential districts to B.W. City, Trusperaton, and Quinton (to the north), which significantly reduced the commute time. Most went to Trusperaton, which is how Trussy got its skyscraper district. It turned out far better when I got the N.A.M., as I was able to build the rails above the roads, the roads above the rails, roads above eachother, and the best thing about it... pedestrian mall tiles!!

I think I've said enough about Domning's history for now.

Is there some place in the forums where I can post the history of most of my cities?

Of course there is. City Journals forums. Just make your own thread about your cities and that's all.

Well, this is the ONLY shot I have so far. Just bought the game on Friday and have been basically just experimenting. Have the simioleon mod and I did plop the obvious ones here, but most is naturally grown. I'm still revamping this city and experimenting with things.

simnewcitylc9.jpg

Well, here's Domning again.

domningwesterncommercialdistricttz8.jpg

Complete with subway network, ground light rail, pedestrian mall tiles, and pedestrian foot bridges over highly congested roads. As usual, the Plop-modd, N.A.M., Ill Tonkso's Eastland Grand underground station, and Ill Tonkso's G.L.R. station were all used in this screen. The subway station and the G.L.R. station are a little further south (or in this case, since the camera is facing south, the stations are north!).

Man, do I love the pedestrian mall tiles! 9.gif

A couple more pictures of Domning's commercial districts. I have a question for you guys: which of the two commercial districts looks like the downtown district?

domningwesterncommercialdistrict2no7.jpg

I spy 5 buildings B.A.T.ed by Ill Tonkso. They aren't hard to find!

domningnortherncommercialdistrictcj0.jpg

There is a THIRD commercial district in Domning. It takes up more space than these two, but there are NO skyscrapers. I'd be happy to post a picture of it when I get back from camping this upcoming Saturday (or was it Friday?).

First post here, seems like a cool community.

This is Haasen, it's based loosely on my hometown of SF, at least in basic concepts: No downtown freeways, peninsula with the primary commercial disctrict at the tip. I think the only mod I have running is the transit mod and the roadtop transit stops. There's a massive bus/subway network, so even with no freeways, traffic isn't much of an issue.

This one is already outdated, though. 4.gif

Thanks!

The region map itself is quite a bit bigger, I've only built up 4 cities (XL size) as of yet. That pic is portions of all of them. It's a Boston map I found a long time ago. Population (so far) is 1.4 million, 650,000 in the "downtown" city. Being a city dweller myself, I like my big square parks. 4.gif

haha, you and i both. My downtowns are often filled with many parks with a cathedral in it, varying from big to small. i dont believe that everything should be concrete.
