Where are my damn highways!?

Where are the highways (and regional game play?)

Where are the one way roads?

Where are the railroads?

And where are the damn landmarks.  My city's skyline is truly sickening compared to what I had on SC4.

I agree with the poster that said, "put it back in the oven."

No railroads? Railroads have been in SimCity since the beginning, and then they decide to take them out? That's redonkulous.

Yes, there are nothing of these items, just simple road is available !

You are not a mayor or god, just you put buildings without any SimCity logical !

There are subways and bus stops but that's it for other transport. I don't think you can even decide the route for the subway.

And here lies the evil plan of EA, there'll be expension after expension( each costing us $50) just to add larger maps, more buildings, more transit options, etc.... It happining to all games now that are not originall sadly.

Yep, trying to Capitalize on us again... they do the same with the Sims expansion packs... a DVD can hold over 4.5GB of Info yet their expansion packs are barely over 1GB... its barely any work at all!

Take this into account - Original SC4 was 1GB of space, then Rush Hour was released and that was 1.5GB... that' 500MB's more stuff than the orginal game! Thats what I call work... Maxis knew how to cut it back in the day... recently, EA have just totally lost the plot, their just a massive, greedy, narrow minded corporation these days.

let's pretend the expansion pack theory is true, and since you mentioned the sims, go figure this out (cuz it works just fine with the sims):

wait till the 6th, 7th EP is released, then go and buy this.

install it and have fun with the new stuff, lock away the dvd of the basic version, you don't need it no more.

now go to the next video rental store that has games, and rent all the EPs inbetween the basic game and the recent EP.

install them, take the EPs back to the rental store and have fun with the content of ALL the EPs

why this works?

because, as for the sims, the game wants the disc of the most recent EP installed to play it. you can install every earlier EP, but can't use the disc to play it, so...

a nice way to safe money, and even legal.

Can your rent PC expansion packs? I didn't even think you can rent PC games since people can just easily download a No-CD crack for most of them 22.gif

there are highways in the game and one way roads, they simply change when appropiate, i'm working on unlocking them at the start which worked but when placed they still change to the default road, so i'm still working on that issue.

Morpheus - from what I've read, there are no highways or one way roads. I read that all there were are dirt roads and regular 2-way streets.

Anyone can confirm ?

Actually there is an XML file for highways, but like he said I don't think they're fully worked out.

Maxis did the same thing with the weather thing...from what I here, it's hidden somewhere in the coding but you can't actually see rain, thunderstorms, snow, etc...that's just about ALL they left out. To be honest, I don't see the point in modding the heck outta this game to act like SC4...then we'd just have SC4 with cartoony graphics. How awesome!!...41.gif  Could I have been anymore sarcastic just then?20.gif

i think Maxis just puts some unfinished code in, and other things, and then leaves it like that for later expansions. On modthesims2.com, when TS2 just came out, there was a Rain mod, and a Car mod. Oh look, the expansions (NightLife, and that one weather one) came out WITH that content! I was like HA! i dont need to spend that money when i already have it for FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Rockstar did the same with GTAIII, they added a barely coded Multiplayer function into the PC version, people then found it and coded the rest of it themselves to make the the MP mods that are released... they used the same code from GTAIII to make the exact same mods compatible with GTAVC and GTASA as well.

If theres Highways and stuff half coded into SCS then its only a matter of time before EA decide to capitalize on that too... in the end, we're just going to be paying £500/$1000 for millions of expansion packs for a pretty 3D version of something that contains less than a quarter of the stuff originally in SC4... makes you want to choke the sodding life out of all of them! 27.gif

I think Simcity has just turned into Simtown i mean don't get me wrong i used to love Simtown but hey Simtown is old and for kids and yet they changed the gameplay for Simcity and made it a little like Simtown come on EA you should have stuck with the traditional simcity gameplay.

But thats a whole other story, I still reckon Simcity Societies will be good (i havn't queit got it yet) but think they could have improved some things, i think if will wright done simcity and didn't worry about SPORE (for a while) maybe we could have gotten a choice between zoning and placing buildings and all nick nacks in simcity as we know it.

Well thats my opinion anyway.

to the streets: i have sniffed through the *.xml's for one hour or so and i think i know what's going on.

yes there are few more streetstyles (12 to be accurate) - some of them can be seen at the loading screens - and they are actually working fine ... BUT - and thats the keypoint - only 2 streetstyles are usable at one time.

the game is categorizing your city in one of 38 profiles - or better to say: it should categorize it. i don't know if it does. what i know for sure is: the profiles depends on the buildings you build (as said in one read-while-loading-hint) and are supposed to change such things as atmosphere lights, as said weather, and it should change the streetstyle. but in every single profile the standards "City Road" and "Country Road" are defined. You could easily change this. in fact if you wanna try go to "\Data\XMLDb\Game\Profiles" and edit the file "SC5 Profile Default.xml". The keyparagraph is

  <Road name="City Street" category="city"/>

  <Road name="Country Road" category="country"/>

  <UnlockRoadList>

    <UnlockedRoad name="City Street" category="city"/>

    <UnlockedRoad name="Country Road" category="country"/>

Change any of those two streetstyles to what you prefer and the game is using it.

Want an example? Here it goes!

here

But the problem keeps: only 2 streetstyles / cityprofile

and that is what im trying to solve at the moment.

I dont know if you know this but apparently when you build using the certain city options, romantic, industrial etc, over time your cities begin to develop accordingly, roads change, buildings get signs or spy cameras etc.

but thats why they have this in the xml, basically it says

"you build this way and you unlock road1"

you build this way and you unlock road2

you start with road 0 (dirt roads turn into covered bridges, etc.....

have you guys REALLY played the game or just power play through?
