What? Just normal Sim City? Not even 2000??!! God, EA might look generous but com on... its Abandonware and no loss to them 41.gif

Now... if they gave them SC4 and linked them to the STEX, that would be another story... rofl.

Although it may seem like garbage to us just think about them. They have never had a computer in their life. 48.gif It is a great thing that EA did

How wonderful, I fully support this laptop project, can you imagine never seeing tv in your life and them getting the chance to use a laptop and for some also use the internet and speak with people round the world, I know to some of us we have been doing that since the 90's, but just think what it must be like for those kids, completely amazing to them I'm sure.

Excellent point. This is a clever method of looking good to the public while really not doing much anything. You see a lot of that these days.

Not that it's a bad thing, but don't go saying "oh, how generous of them" and whatnot. Because really, it's not.

I agree....This may create interest in SIM CITY for thise who do not have it. Although the donation seems like a marketing ploy to get people interested in SCS, It was a nice gesture...but SC4 would have been a better choice.. Cus afterall, DIRK created this awesome monster of a website..... KERPLUNK!! 4.gif

Silur, Actually, MS isn't killing Linux, the OLPCs run on a stripped-down version of Ubuntu. Dell was comming out with something simmilar that would, but they stopped apparently.

You're right, computers don't have serious uses at all. And they sure don't play an important role in the modern world either. 14.gif

Read up on the One Laptop per Child organization. Do you think it's meant for people who already have excellent access to the internet?

The goal of the One Laptop Per Child campaign was to originally produce a $100 computer that could be mass distributed to developing and underdeveloped nations alike.  Taking into account where these laptops were to be headed meant having to incorporate designs different from the laptops you find in the store.  These laptops include a low power processor, low memory, limited storage capcity, wifi capabilities, and the ability to charge via non-traditional methods.  Since the start of the project the price has risen to $200, however that has not discouraged this noble idea.

The laptops being provided are powerful enough to provided the essentials for education, with very little attention towards gaming.  The only uncertainty is what these children will accomplish with the new found source of information they have.  The sky is the limit for these underprivledged individuals who will most definitely lead their nations into the future.
