When Lewis A. Wholeshire set out to find the "New World" in 1673 with his 65 "crew members" (some of them had no shipping experience at all), he had no idea he'd end up coming in the dead of winter.

After a severe storm slowed them down in the middle of the Atlantic, they finally made it to the New World in the beginning of November, at least that's what they thought. They didn't know it would be snowing in November!

Lewis A. Wholeshire's ship, the Amadéus, was from the Royal Kingdom of Braüchenstein, who also payed for the voyage.

We start our story on the date of November 7, Year of Our LORD 1673.

A Tour of Wholeshire

St. Paul's Catholic Church can be seen here. The villagers built a fence to prevent the children from going up into the high mountains that formed the valley.

The spring in which the villagers of Wholeshire get their water and bathe. However, tomorrow the men are setting out in search of another stream, because they know the spring may not last them long enough.

Some cabins that house some of the 65 people living in Wholeshire. Also seen is the "Big Tree", a now popular gathering place for villagers.

Nature very near Wholeshire. The villagers have yet to find any game besides rabbits and birds. If you don't think the water looks cold, tell that to the guy that fell off the boat on the way here 45.gif

Next time:

The villagers go out hunting for game

Reminds me a lot of Age Of Empires III, in which you set out to conquer the New World! (I was rubbish at that game)

I like the fact this is a 'different from the norm' CJ, in this case, lots of snow, AND a 1700's theme! Should be good...

teeparex-interesting observation there.

In social studies we are study this stuff (you must be too nemo to being thinking of this journal) and it resparked my interest in that game, and then through a combination of that and having it drilled into my head in school I came up with the idea of a journal very similar to this one right here, cept it will take place in my current journal.

nemo-nice start, you should really play AOE III, it will give you some good ideas for this journal.

Very original, and an old colonial theme is something I've only just witnessed on ST.

    Psycho_Teddy: Thanks'd you'd! Lol'd! (Inside joke)

Cleaner475: Thanks Cleaner, I knew people would like the snow!

Schulmanator: Wow I'm glad your so enthusiastic about me having another CJ!

KingTitan: That's just how the snow mod came, I didn't really do anything, but thanks anyway!

Teeparex: I'd get AOE III in a heartbeat, but my video card isn't up to date. Poor me 8.gif

patriots_1228: Actually, I got this idea from watching Columbus: The Lost Voyage on the History Channel. Very boring, but I was sick and had nothing else to do. After adding in the snowy stuff I decided I had a very unique CJ for me!

2nerdy4u: Yeah, I wasn't sure if I should put in those roofs, I thought either these are going to be really cool and people will love them, or people will think its just to much for the eye.

    Smarty218: Thank you very much!

Suplado!: Thanks! Oh and about that review I was going to write about your CJ, I decided it probably wasn't a good idea since you had already gotten one, I don't think it would've gone over to well with everyone over there lol.

Penguin007: Thanks, I'm glad everyone loves the snow!

    Update

Today, the men go out to explore their surroundings...

    takeoffdv8.jpg

The group starts out at the back of the village. It is very cold out, about -35F (-37C), and some snow flurries are going about. However, one of the villagers noticed some darker clouds rolling in. However, they decide to keep going despite the frigid temperatures (keep in mind that they have never seen snow in their lives, so obviously they don't know what a snowstorm cloud looks like)

    gamevp2.jpg

They spot their first game not very far away from the village. They decide not to shoot, as they have enough food left over from the voyage to last them a couple of more days. It seems to be getting colder, as it is now -37F (-38C) but the snow stopped.

    verysnowykc9.jpg

The group senses an eerie stillness in the air, when suddenly, out of nowhere, it started snowing like they had never thought possible. It wasn't sprinkling snow, it seemed to be dumping it upon them. They see a frozen lake through the heavy snowfall, but can not investigate any further. They may be dead by nightfall...

    churchandverysnowyrs8.jpg

Miraculously, they make it back to the church before the sun goes down. After a long town meeting, the village decides to spend the night in the church, for people may not even be able to find their houses in the weather. Here is a diary entry from one of the women:

Awesome CJ, I can't wait for more, and an awesome idea on top of that.  Can't wait to see this develop into a thriving colony, or perhaps, fail? That'd be different, lol.

I just find those temperatures to be really cold, too cold to sustain tree life.

Jacqulina: Thanks for you wonderful comments! It took me a while to get that deer shot because I wanted it perfect and the animals disappear after a while. Argh!

Patriots_1228: Yeah the reenactments are awesome aren't they. Don't you love PEG's MTP Pack?

Smarty218: Thanks, I put a lot of work into making the city look old, as Sim City 4 was designed to make modern cities.

2nerdy4u: Ha ha, thanks very much, that means a lot that you don't even think it looks like Sim City! I hope you mean it in a good way though lol... 41.gif

Schulmanator: Woah, as I was typing this comment, I got really really dizzy and felt like I was going to faint. Maybe that's some sort of sign that the Supreme Wirdle is having a very upset stomach? Thank you very much for the comment!

Suplado!: Thanks, I worked hard to make an interesting storyline that is well written out so it doesn't hurt your eyes when you read it.

Callbat: It can only go up, right? Well, maybe not...

The_Hutt: Nice to see you! And thanks for the comment!

Skram: Thank you very much, I appreciate your comment!

Bighaben: Well, actually, trees can sustain somewhat to extreme cold, however they often explode, as you will see in this update. But your right, if it was this cold all the time, the trees would not survive, but this was a very rare occurrence. Thanks for the comment!

    Update

The villagers awoke to *BANG* *BOOM* *BASH*. The villagers had no idea what it was, but when they looked out the window, they found the trees were exploding!

    HOLD IT

You're probably wondering, "How the $@#& do trees explode!?". Well, I have the answer. You see, when the temperature gets incredibly low, like in the storm, the ice can get all the way inside the tree and freeze the sap. As most of us know, when water freezes, it expands. So, when the inside of the tree expands, the outside explodes!

    NOW LETS KEEP GOING

None of the villagers could figure out why, so they decided to simply let it go. The village recovered from the fierce storm, and miraculously, no one died that night.

    A few weeks later...

After the crew landed in the New World a few weeks ago, Lewis A. Wholeshire went back to the Royal Kingdom of  Braüchenstein, and reported to the Queen his discoveries. When the Queen heard about the wonderful knew land (Lewis didn't know about the storm, he only saw the wonderful things that happened there) she immediately sent 200 more people to the colony, away from the war-torn Kingdom, to make a new colony and to bring in money for the war.

Of course, the villagers had somewhat expected more people to come, so they had prepared a large wood pile to build new houses.

    expansionoverviewhx1.jpg

The new houses are to the west (right) of the original village. You can see the beginnings of a street, well,<

KingTitan: I agree, the pics do look somewhat pixelated, but I only notice it in some of them. Occasionally, when I want it to look very cold, I lower the saturation, but I doubt that has anything to do with it. And all of my settings are set to high I think. I'll be sure to check next time I play Sim City though!

Awesome update, funny too.  I knew I shouldn't have said anything about the freezing temperatures as you have it all planned out.
