Hello all. I've been playing SC4 for a few years, but only discovered Simtropolis (and the fact you can make 'mods' a few weeks ago).

This is probably the most common question asked, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

How do you get skyscrapers?

What are the general prerequistes?

How big are they? (tile size - e..g. 4x4, 6x6, etc., how many Sims can live in it)

I tried the Advanced Tutorial in Thy451's FAQ to no avail. The biggest building I've ever had was a R$ building that held about 6900 Sims and wasn't much taller then a nearby large medical centre.

Also, what is your city's population? They generally don't appear (the very largest ones) until you've hit at least 50,000 people.....

You can make mods...I would suggest Private Messaging a fellow BATTER (designer), and ask how to get started...You can also download your own, which Im sure you know that. I hope that helps friend. Good Luck. 4.gif

Usually the biggest ones are 4x4's, and you should aim for a very high population if you really want the best ones. Parks, highly funded civic buildings (I give them 100 extra capacity for schools and hospitals) and stuff like that around them will help. If a low wealth monstrosity comes up when you don't want it, bulldoze it, and keep on doing so until a medium or high wealth comes. I would say, if a R$ comes up more than 5 times, move the zoning somewhere else.

My advice is download some plopable skyscrapers because they sometimes kick start your economy by providing new jobs and then you'll see lots of residential skyscrapers popup and also commercial ones and your economy will probably boom.

First, welcome to Simtropolis.  We hope you enjoy your stay here.

Skyscrapers have to be earned by building a proper city with the proper amount of population and amenities.  As you population gets upwards of 40,000 or so, you will start to see high-rise residential buildings phase in.

As your educated population grows, you keep pollution under control, provide amenities like police, fire, parks and rec, good transportation, and, of course, water services, you will start to see improvement in commercial buildings.

When you have enough demand from R$$ and R$$$ for Cs$$, Cs$$$, Co$$ and Co$$$ jobs (about 60,0000 jobs) and have the zoning for them (high density 4 x 4 up to 6 x 6) your skyscrapers will start to appear.  At this point your R population could easily be larger than 100,000.

You can enourage growth by making a safe, fun city.  You may find that doing some regional play things will help.  One of the best ploys is to put your industrial in another city with enough low level residential to provide the R$ grunts.  The R$$ and R$$$ professional should commute from your R/C city, and they should be few across that link.

By moving your heavy polluters off the main city, you save yourself a lot of grief, and you can buy power from the I city while selling it water.  Garbage should also be exported to the I city to either landfills or waste to energy plants.

Keeping both cities in sync is a nuisance, but it does pay dividends.

    Thanks for the information.

My largest city size is just over 300,000, and until recently, this formed over half my entire region population. I saw on a post where some people posted pictures of skyscrapers, they seemed to be as tall as landmarks. But no buildings that tall appeared in the city. (Considering every single road in the city is red in the Traffic view, that's probably why)

I've had some success recently downloading mods from Simtropolis, and making my own lots. I will look at some plobbable skyscrapers to download.

I have a few cities with 50,000 + population. But again, these have no really tall buildings, they just seem to be mansions, condos, etc. holding around 2500 Sims. Are these skyscrapers?

I would suggest using the Super Demand Modd, it helps, I have tons of skyscrapers AND high rise residential. Although it is a modd.

The CAM can also just-start skyscrapers. I played the st city in my region for 3 hrs with a nearby id city with 10000 jobs, and now I have some skycrapers. Although not the whole tile is scrapers.

Check you desirabilty and make sure co$$$ will move in anywhere that you want skyscrapers to develop.

Lastly make sure you co$$ and co$$$ demands are at at least 5000.

My city is hitting "bumps in the road" to megalopolis-dom.

I got my population to 650,000, but then it started fluxuating wildly. During one instance, I was mad at my city, so I threw a meteor at an area of it. The next census like three weeks later I got a population jump of 87,000! I was happy, then mad because a disaster had happened right before it. So I go to region without saving, jump back to the city, put it under the same circumstances and the population dropped 30,000! I got it up to 720,000, then I just can't get the population to rise. It seems to go 720000, 700000, 710000, 715000, 705000, 725000! It just won't stay still! What do I do?

btw, my city is on a medium tile so it's super cramped.

725,00 seems pretty good for a medium tile. Have you downloaded a mod regarding demand caps, like the Super Demand Ordinance, which can be found here: If you haven't downloaded it yet, keep in my that it is a radical mod and is not for those who like realistic growth.

I was in a similar situation earlier this year. My largest city Central Park kept fluctuating between 500,000 and 650,000 until I downloaded this mod. I started deleting some buildings I didn't like after and the population kept rising to its current state at 1.2 million. This city is on a large tile though.

Good luck on smoothing your bumps.

Take a look at your population by age.  You will probably find you are in a zero population growth situation with deaths of old age roughly equaling your birth rate and immigration.

You might consider attaching a neighbor city and maybe moving your industrial sector over there.  After the industrial pollution dies down, you can rezone that area for residential/commercial and see what happens.

with that kind of population, a subway between these cities should work very well as your neighbor hook up.  If you move your garbage processing to the new city, you will also need a road.
