I love the fairground parking! You should upload that one!  My only suggestion is that you find/make a wider overlay texture for the paths before doing so, as most of those type of lots have paths wide enough for at least the car, if not two.  That, and some signs would be nice as well!  Nice work! 9.gif

    Looking good.

About dependencies, looking at those lots, I don't think there would be an excessive number of dependencies.  But however many there are, you should try to reduce the number.  For example, if a bench is from pack A, and the light post is from pack B, if there was a similar light post in pack A, you could use that one instead.  These lots don't look especially dependencful though.

Also, is this thread about BATing in any way?  If not, I should probably move it to the Lot Editor forum.

    Thanks Jason, and welcome Jayo!

Dependencies should not be much of a problem. As per Jason's suggestion, try to reduce the number of packs you use by substituting if possible. I would suggest at this point using SC4 Tool to find out exactly how many and which dependencies your lots are currently using. Please see the SC4 Tool sticky at the top of this forum for more info, or feel free to ask for more help.

However for future reference,  when lot making its always best to remove all plugins (except the buildings as props files)  from both your plugins folders before you even open the Lot Editor. Then put back in only one or two prop packs that you know you want to use on your lot. If you find you need another prop pack later you can always add it in later. But this is a very good method for controlling the number of dependencies your lots have.

You can also use the Start Up Manager (SUM, see the sticky in this forum), to manage your plugins profiles. For example, use the Empty Plugins profile to move all your plugins out automatically, then just copy back in the prop packs you want. You might even want to make a folder with the specific packs you are using for the project. Eg call the folder X Project (where x is the name of your project) and put copies of the prop packs you want to use in that folder. Then use the SUM to create a new profile based on the Empty Plugins profile. Call it Lotting - X Project and add to it the folder you made. That way you can then launch it with the SUM when you want to work on the project, and switch easily between different projects, or your playing profile when you want to play the game.

You can also use your X Project folder for dependency testing later. If your lot shows missing dependencies using SC4Tool when only the X Project folder is in your plugins, then you know you haven't identified all your dependencies properly.

I agree. Likewise, the LD file gives you a vague idea of the dependencies used. I say vague idea because it's not capable of listing texture Packs.

Fortunately, the Mega Prop Packs made things considerably easier. Nowadays, you can see in the list which prop belongs where - everything that starts with "jes_", for example, comes from one of jestarr's prop packs, and all props starting with "SG_" are from SimGoober's mega prop pack.

Another idea would be to add only one prop pack at a time, open the LE and see what's new. Then try the next one, maybe make some rough notes. By the time, you will get a pretty clear idea of which props are from which pack, and this will enable you to keep dependencies down to a decent limit.

Come to think of it, it would be cool if you could make such a thing as a "hierarchic adhoc prop family", i.e. a non-random (or partly random) prop family where the topmost prop in the hierarchy is used if the corresponding dependency is available, and otherwise the next prop in the family... This would create entirely new possibilities of using optional dependencies - you got gascooker's props, and you see one of his trucks there, and if you haven't got them, it will just be  the good old Maxis truck trailer... well... one can dream. 21.gif
