the only thing that helps me maintain my slender grip on reality is the friendship I share with my collection of singing potatoes.

That is a huge web...but in Texas this shouldn't happen in open land...

In the rain forest I figure there must be webs twice the size of that...

ohh and that tree must attract vast amounts of flies or why else would they all work together...?

Maybe its evolution and it'll be like that Anime Blue Gender....

like first ants made colonies and now spiders form colonies...like ant hills...only with spiders...

estimates of up to several million mosquitoes traped.

they have been very bad this year with all the rain and mild  temps.

I saw a story on this a few weeks ago - rather fascinating, actually. I am sure Peter Parker has already made himself at home.

I think the spider's were decorating for Halloween. Beats anything I do with the fake stuff (even with a black light).

    Arachnophobes nightmare...

Actually... Spiders that make webs like that a relitively small... I remember moving a Leather Sofa from my room once and there was a freaking MASSIVE cobweb behind it... the spider that made it was like the size of Thumb nail though...

As Easy Bakes said, its been very mild this year... the Spiders also benfit from that (billions more insects infesting the place)... means House Spiders  in general can grow to Gargatuan sizes... I've killed a few monsters this year...41.gif

no, these are social spiders. they're like ants, but spiders...but without a queen or something like that. they live in a community.

    Perfect for Halloween!

I still freak at the idea of the large super ant colony found in southern Europe. The colony stretches from Italy, through France and Spain, and all the way to Portugal, spanning some 3600 miles. Populated with untold billions of ants and multiple collaborating queens, this has evolved into the largest cooperative society of living beings on the planet.

Nuke them! Nuke them now, before those billions of individual cells reach the collective threshold to become a conscious Super Hive Mind.

"We are the Ants. You will be Assimilated. Resistance is Futile."

No one really invented the internet.....it was joint project between England and US....

About that ANT SUPER COLONY...that sounds like BS....plus Russia is bigger then that ant colony so it would be bigger...China is bigger...Australlia covers more space...

it only goes from Spain to Italy...the Hungarian Kingdon was about that size i think....

Not larger in area--larger in population. But bad choice of words on my part given the idiosyncracies and indefiniteness of English common usage; let us say "more populous." Far, far more populous. Now mighty Russia, the Australian continent, Hungary's kingdom, and even the People's Republic all combined are puny in comparison.

Well, I have severe arachnaphobia, but putting that aside, that web is quite cool. I'd like to see it- from a distance. It's quite creepy though. So, an ant colony steching over south Europe. Scary and Facinating at the same time.

While I don't particularly like spiders, I absolutely hate mosquitoes, and well, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The reference Odainsaker  made to the ant colony sparked my interest too.  I found more info about it here.  Fascinating stuff.
