Downloading Regions

Unfortunately, there is no SC4Mapper/Terraformer for Mac, so any region made in Terraformer (which is most of the good ones these days), can't be used on a Mac (unless you have Boot Camp, in which case you can create the region in Windows, and move it back to the Mac partition). Most older maps, which were made with greyscale images, can be put into SC4 in the same way that they would on a PC. Instructinos can be found here

How do I load a region larger than 961x961 px? I keep getting a warning up?

You need to download a config.bmp file. You should find it where you downloaded the region. If it is off the stex, then go to the download. It will be next to the link to download the jpg. So get that file, move it to the regions folder, located in this directory Documents=>SimCity 4=>Regions then either make a new folder with the name that you want the new region to be called and place the config.bmp in it, or find the region that you wish to import the region into and place the config.bmp in there. Then open SC4 and start rendering the region just as before.

and Welcome to simtroplois! 4.gif

Yah I have followed that point, and put in a huge (relatively huge) config.bmp that matches my importing .jpg into a folder named after the region, in my directories region folder.

But then after all this I get a warning asking me to scale down the .jpg to 961px square 15.gif

Oh I realised my mistake, the config.bmp has to go in the USER/DOCUMENT/SIMCITY4/REGIONS not the one in the application folder.

I can't seem to install a region either. I follow the tutorial about installing a region from a grayscale image, but when I get to the "load region" step, SimCity just displays a flat region, though the cities do conform to config.bmp. If I press option-control-shift-R, the correct dialog opens, and I find the correct grayscale image, but then nothing happens. What's my problem?

Thanks for your response. This is actually a test region that I'm installing; it happens to be the region with the long name on the first page of the STEX. The image seems to be grayscale. I actually had to go into Fireworks and resize the image, as it was too small 4.gif But, when I open the region the first time, it actually makes a flat region with city boundaries conforming to config.bmp rather than just config.bmp appearing at first, as the tutorial says. Thanks for your help so far, but the image is grayscale (you can check it), so what am I doing wrong?

It seems as if the config and the region don't fit each other. The dimensions for the region should be: 4097x3073. One of the sides adds up, to the opposite side of the config. And yes the image is a greyscale. Try resizing it and tell me if it works.

Or you could try another one, because trust me this map would take forever to render.

However, I ended up simply deleting that region. I then tried a different one (which happens to be your map Mount River North), which rendered perfectly! Thanks for your help.
