You CAN'T throw money at it

Sorry to bother all of you again, but a slight error/technical game-side arrogance in the mayor car UDI mission is driving me crazy. I've been doing various UDI missions to pass the time a bit, and I've been trying to calm these riots by throwing money at them, but even after parking right next to the target and dumping 5k(correction) 10k worth of simoleans, I still need to hit escape and terminate the mission before the time limit because the mission won't detect it as succeeded. Am I missing something here?

Money honestly isn't the issue as I'm making 3k per month (yay for residential blocks), but seeing these strike riots complaining about healthcare in a fully provided area is pretty stupid and painful to look at. Plus, I can't find a way to make them disperse.

Of course the real answer to all of this is to eschew UDI.  It is not as bad as abstinence from your favorite debauchery, i promise.

Yeah, sadly I tried that already to no avail. Actually ran over the striking sims and held down the space bar for like a full 2 minutes until the mission ended and I lost, with nothing to show for it but a -10k simoleans in funds and strikers that won't go away. Did I mention -30 mayor ratings?

While I'm at it: My schools are boycotting ice cream trucks. I've sat next to said school, drove around said school, and slammed into said school to no avail. Oh, and yes I did have that ice cream song blaring out my truck. I'm starting to wonder: Is this rigged? Tried the mission 5 times, not a single school bought ice cream. Nada, zilch, zero, the big O. They did sell me a hefty amount of -160 mayor rating for free though, wonder if I can make ice cream out of that.

Missions such as these are sometimes a little buggy. Whether they work or not seems completely random. I've also had lots of trouble with the UDI vehicle not recognizing where I am, almost always with the throwing money mission, but also sometimes with the missions involving the school bus or hearse. If I have the time, I'll leave the area, drive around the block, and try it again, driving in the opposite direction. Sometimes that works, but sometimes nothing works. So I really don't have any advice besides to be persistant.

is there a mod just to fix these missions?

i really need to learn to play the game vanilla, i dont want cheats  or  any real changes to the   base game ( deluxe w/rushhour) but im not opposed to bug fixes.

i like the bonuses from the driving missions, but twice in a row i failed the  "throw money at it" missions and am -60 mayoral rating

    thanks

UDI was a kind of end of development cycle stick-on to promote The Sims.  Not only was it late, it wasn't well debugged.  I suspect it got very short shrift in the Q.A. cycle.  I always turn it off and only use it for diagnostic purposes.  It really is not part of the main game.

That's a new one. Never ever had a fire break out in a station's coverage area. I didn't think it was possible. Are you funding it properly?

As for UDI, it's on and off. Sometimes it works fine, for others it hardly functions. There has not been a big fix patch for it because it is beyond the scope of legal modding.

ill have to doublecheck all there funding and coverage, i just thought it was part of the game.

thanks for the replies. its  rare that a game this old still has an active community.  really is a testament  to how fun it can be.

this is my first time ever playing a sim city game, and  so far im really enjoying it, ive got a few small, 20,000 people cities.

The big attraction for me is that the program is a gigantic exercise in problem solving.  Each thing you do causes multiple things to crop up.

This is my thought. I think EA was rushing it a little bit instead of buying Maxis a little time. EA. I hate to say it but I am surprised EA hasn't been legally shut down yet. Have you seen the sort of stuff that went on in the Early 90s. They bought out and screwed over a bunch of companies that had some promise. And let's not even talk about what the Simcity 2013 release.

Well, what has kept EA from going out of business is the public, them continually to blindly purchase their products. Once people begin to learn their god-awful business practice, which some people have thankfully realized with the ridiculous milking of the Sims franchise, EA will feel the pain both financially and legally.

    SimCity 4, it's not a game; it's a work of art.

Yeah. And kids my age ( I am 13 by the way ) don't know crap about what is going on. I search up this stuff when I am bored. And one of the guys on youtube named Ross Scott calls them evil. It's in a video called Ross' Game Dungeon Zany golf. At 7:09. He get's into what crap EA has pulled over the years prior to Simcity 4's release.

Simcity 4 has the advantage of being a moddable game. I don't care for the UDI missions, so I'm not missing those. But Maxis didn't even fix quite glaring bugs. Things like the Grand Railroad Station are real head-scratchers. You never heard of the Grand Railroad Station? No surprise, as it won't show up in game. Although, as the reward error isn't the only error its values have, this may be a good thing.

There is no point in beating this old goat again.  EA is a corporation in the U.S. and as such can generally run rough-shod over any part of the market they care to be in.  As with most similar outfits, their only thought is the bottom line and how to improve it.  Customer service?  Can't afford it!  Good computer engineering?  Too expensive!  Got to get those products out on time!  Don't care if they are buggier than a meeting of the Amish.  Just get that "product" out of here!
