Shes Phsyco, and refused to take her meds. Medication needs to be mandatory in cases like these, before something as horrific as this can happen.

It's horrible to see two horrible threads like these back to back, but I'm sure one could be written every day of the year. 15.gif By the looks of it companies will soon be profiting off the building of crazy-houses. 21.gif

I agree that she should have taken her meds by all means, but not that medications should be obligated. 2.gif

I'd have to read more if it was determined she was in psychosis when she committed the acts, but unfortunately it's not uncommon for people w/ illnesses of any sort to stop treatment when the symptoms subside. In free societies worldwide there will always be issues resulting from tensions of personal liberties vs. community responsibility.

If it was the mental illness (as opposed to sheer evil or sociopathology; and not all such mental illness causes this extreme of behavior btw) that played the overwhelming factor then the state would probably start looking at responsibility for her treatment, such as whether or not she or her healthcare providers knew of the risks of going off her med's/therapy(ies) and proper disclosure and decision making about that knowledge.

Hey, Easybakes, I, for one, always look forward to the articles you bring up, so please don't be dissuaded by Outriderdriver and keep on bringing up these types of provocative articles. If I hadn't seen this, I wouldn't have known about it as I didn't read or hear anything about it in the news here.

As far as this woman is concerned, it reminds me of the case about, I dunno, 20 years ago  where a 23 year old mother was smoking PCP and decided her infant was possessed by the devil and put her in the microwave. Another case, which was eerily similar involved another young mother who was also smoking PCP and also thought her kid was possessed by the devil and stabbed the child dozens of times. And, of course, no one can forget the woman in Carolina who drove her car into the lake with her two children in it.

How can someone do this to one's own child? I can't answer that since I don't have a child, nor can I wrap my mind around wasting my own kid if I did have one. But insanity like this seems to be running rampant lately since there seems to be a story in the news about something like this on almost a daily basis somewhere in the U.S. My friend wonders if someone somewhere (the government, maybe?) is running some kind of macabre experiment where they beam something down on us and watch what kind of behavioural response results from the stimulus. Sound bizarre? How much more bizarre than wantonly destroying one's own child? Look at the guy a couple of months ago in Montgomery County, Maryland where the guy gets done cleaning up his garage then nonchallantly strolls upstairs and blows away his two teenage sons. Or, last year in Suitland, Maryland where a 9 year old kid stabs his mother then proceeds to beat her to death with a blunt object. The list goes on.

If drugs aren't involved, then there's probably some sort of mental illness affecting the person's behaviour. If someone is taking medication then stops, or has a reaction to the medication, well, that's an explaination, I suppose. But what about the people who have no history of mental illness? Is it because no one noticed the signs of any condition and the illness just went unchecked for so long that the person finally snapped? The guy who shot his two sons is a prime example. Nice guy, hard working, got along with the neighbours and co-workers, took an interest in his sons' activities, lived a pretty "normal", unremarkable life with no history of mental or medical problems. What happens? He just starts cleaning up his garage and while he's cleaning thinks "Gee, when I get done cleaning up the garage, I should really just go upstairs and blow my sons' heads off?" Or is it something like "Those little ungrateful bast*#ds are upstairs sleeping while I'm down here working my a$$ off. I'd really like to take this hammer and go up there and bash their heads in, but they might wake up and fight back, so my best bet is to get my piece and blow 'em away." What happened to this guy? Or to the flame thrower in Easybakes' article? "Oh, it's a slow day and I'm bored. I think I'll torch my kids!" It really makes me wonder where these people's heads are at just before they execute the act. Is there no conscience? No "voice of sanity" or "hand of god" to say "Hold it! What the hell are you doing?" Or maybe these acts ARE actually well thought out, premeditated, cold blooded acts of murder with the person thinking "I'll do something so bizarre that everyone will think I'm crazy and I won't go to prison."  Will we ever know?

My heart goes out to the victims and to all of the lives affected by these seemingly senseless acts of violence. May the one child rest in peace. May the other two live to see better days.

Actually you tend to bring a variety of interesting subjects to the Off-Topic forums. 10.gif  ... sometimes even beating me to the punch! 3.gif

Back on subject, when I pay attention to the news sometimes to local stories, from wherever, including outside of the U.S. I continually see stories revolving around child welfare, either abusive or felonious parents or given jurisdictions being upbraided by someone.   Unfortunately worldwide there is still not enough respect given for the age appropriate needs of children or proper parenting and at the worst there is a lot of selfishness where adult's needs take precedence even over children's lives.
