Installers for macs

This morning I was playing around with an application called Automator.

I think it comes with the operating system, although I not sure.

And I was able to make an application that could copy some selected files to another folder, In this case it was the pluguns folder.

This method is used in the NAM, but with an exe installer for the windows user, while we have to manually place the files and need to find the file we need to be able to work the NAM addition to the game. This saves so much time when installing it.

I am now wondering, would this work for only my computer or would this work on every mac?

I am still looking around the app. but so far it seems fairly easy to use. Has anyone else on this fourm ever had a good look at this app.?

If you want me to, I would be able to attach a test of the file that contains, The installer and the file (this is an empty folder containg another empty folder). So that this could be tested on other computers ither than my own. The only problem that I see would be the users file that contains the documents folder and the Simcity 4 folder, the library, videos ect. as that file would be named differently for each computer. This could be were the app then could not run, because it would not iddentify the path after that folder because of the diffrent name. (The folder is found in the users folder on the hard drive and is not the shared folder).

Annother problem might be that this way does not work on older OS.

So if someone is interested in testing it I can post the file for you to try.

If it does work then this would make it easier for the mac users to instal their plug-ins.

If this does work on other peoples computers, I might get i contact with the NAM people to try and get this installer up and running.

It would be great if we could see installers for Macs. While we probably won't see installers for the average BAT, it would be a lot easier if they were made for larger mods like NAM, and maybe CAM.

I might play around with the application a little bit.

I've made installers before, but, not being a Mac user 15.gif I'm not really familiar with compatible tools but I'll try to help anyway.  I do believe there are included dev tools for making packages (which ought to be suitable for game mods).  There's apparently an application called PackageMaker that will let you create packages for installation on other machines.  I don't know much about it, but I did find two articles that may help, especially for the more "techy" Mac user.

They seem to be fairly detailed and go into the program in-depth.  I hope this helps a bit! 9.gif
