    Hello folks,

Just letting everyone know that I updated the thread by posting the new link for the MAY 2010 release of the NAM (Network Addon Mod). The hyperlink sends you to SC4 Devotion for the appropriate download. Also check out the new RealHighway (RHW) and Network Widening Mod (NWM) in addition to the updated NAM.

    Thanks!

If you're asking about NAM, download it, unzip it, and run the setup program. It will install itself in the correct folder.

If you are asking about installing any item, check out this guide for information.

More information needed... What are you looking to create? You can check out the numerous articles in the Omnibus as a first step. Then you can read the threads and post any questions you might have in the Modding Discussion forum. Just a thought...

I am not new to SC4, but just recently got into it enough to want, or need, the help of a forum. I remember playing SC1 way, way back (I won't say how far back . . .) and had alot of fun with SC3kU.

SC4, though, is a very different animal than all the other SC's (duh, me!), and I didn't really play it much after getting it and trying it out. I'm really more a driving/racing game guy (TDU, RACE 07, etc.). I decided to give SC4 another go recently after realizing I needed a break from all the intense, non-stop action of racing. OK. Actually, I was getting just a little bored driving around Oahu. I'd driven the roads there so much, it was almost like really being there.

I had fun playing SC3kU, but initially found SC4 kind of frustrating. I didn't really understand the new concepts (yes I read the manual. I'm a technical person, and always read the manual of everything I buy). I didn't fully grasp the regions function. Nor did I understand how the budget slider of schools, power plants, etc. help you manage your budget in a much better way than the old SC's. I actually found the budget slider to be an annoyance until I (slowly) began to understand how useful it actually is. I admit it: I'm a slooooooooow learner at times.

I am here to learn more about how to expand my enjoyment of SC4, and to learn a few tricks from the experts. A better understanding of the game will go a long way to improving my game play and help minimize the frustrations encountered. For example, there must be a way or a mod to shut up that enviro-wacko nutjob that considers it her function to shut down water pumps without notifying you or even asking permission! You only hear about it from the Utilities guy! There should be a way for a Mayor to control his people like that. He/she should be able to fire/replace any one of them. If she can do that, why can't the Police/Fire guy dispatch the fire trucks on his own?

Now I'm not here to learn how to make bigger cities (read: population). I am more interested in designing and building pleasing, aesthetic "towns" - a high desirability factor. So, a few Q's:

Trees have different costs. Do they have different values? If so, what are they?

Can you get rid of a dump? Say, start one somewhere else when your city starts to grow in ways you had not planned on, or install enough recycle centers?

Can you turn off the Rush Hour icons floating around? I never play those and they get in the way when they are near something I'm trying to click on to check it's status.

Do heavily polluting industries on the edge of your town pollute the air and/or water of the adjacent town? For that matter, do you always need some manufacturing, or can you get away with deleting them altogether once you have the High Tech industry?

Thank you. And if you've read all of this post . . . I REALLY thank you!!

I was a huge, HUGE fan of SimCity 2000 on my old Macintosh. I bought SimCity 4 soon after it came out on my (then new) PC but for some reason never really got into it. I have just recently dug out the CDs and am finally playing the game and enjoying it. So I just wanted to say hi and that it is good to see that there is still an active community for this game, and thank you for the useful information in this thread.

OK, looks like we've got a few questions here without answers, so I'll see what I can do.

Yes - you need to have a way for the trash to otherwise be disposed of, say through an incinerator. The trashpile will shrink, and you can then de-zone it. The last 4 tiles take ages to break down - there is a mod on the STEX that removes them instantly, by setting the decomposition speed much higher. This is the Landfill Eraser Mod.

Can you turn off the Rush Hour icons floating around? I never play those and they get in the way when they are near something I'm trying to click on to check it's status.quote>

Yes you can - you need to go into the MySims menu and click on the picture of the car. One of the options in the menu that comes up then should be to turn off UDI Icons.

    No, they don't.

As far as I know you don't always need manufacturing.

First, the points are a measure of how much you have contributed to Simtropolis, taking into account number of posts, STEX uploads, CJs in the CJ section, and ratings on comments on STEX uploads and in the CJ section. It's discussed here.

I don't think it's possible for all the buildings in a region to be high-rise. There will always be some small buildings and midrises. The only way I can think of that would allow all the buildings to be highrise would be to plop them all yourself, but ploppable residential buildings don't work properly and it would thus be pointless.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Hello new to Simtropolis.com here. I have a problem that I hope some one can answer. When I download a new object such as "cash Park" for example. The download goes fine I place the zip. file in my plugins folder and extract the files . the problem is that my Toshiba Satellite laptop keeps wanting to open the file with Sims 2 Body Shop Package Installer. What would be the correct program to open this file with and how do I do it? Thanks in advance for any help I receive on this issue.

You shouldn't need to do anything. Just place the files in your SC4 plugins folder and you're good to go. They'll be in the game next time you open it up.

Somehow you have associated the zip files with the Sims 2 Body Shop Package.  How you correct the association depends on the operating system you are using.

See here for how to get rid of brown boxes.

For the second part of your question, what were you trying to download? If it was off the BSC Exchange, over on SC4Devotion, you need to register there.

Big C: Most of the items on the STEX require Rush Hour or Deluxe versions to work properly. It's very cheap to purchase, I recently lost my Rush Hour disk, so I got a copy of Deluxe Edition still in its wrapping from a high street games shop for only
