Indeed it was China.

*Annoucement*

My real life is just to much for me, so this will be my last picture, then I will give up my hosting to someone else.

So I made it easier, I left the colours of the police car on, but not the writing.

Where is that?

Well, this is a mistake I didn't see coming.

That exact same picture was one of the ones I used in my initial run as host. Picture #28. Posted October 28, 2007. Page 8. It's the Lahore-Islamabad motorway in Pakistan.

Though, that was over a year ago, and before you were a member, so it's understandable.1.gif

Highway 217, Exit 5, Greenburg Road. Oregon, United States

One thing I would suggest is blur all hints...

All I had to do is type in "Exit 5, Greenburg Rd" on Google images and that picture was the first to appear.

Legible text on signs is a definite "must edit out" thing. If I was going to use that image, it would have looked like this:

    hwdykhw159exjx7.jpg

Also note that the exit only tab is gone, as is the text on the smaller exit sign and the yellow ramp speed limit sign in the background.

In GIMP or Photoshop, a simple quick Gaussian blur will suffice to remove text, if the color of something must also be disguised (as with the exit only tab), you can clone tool it away.

Or, if you're not so sophisticated you can always just throw black censor bars over it in MS Paint. But that looks nasty.

Just keep trying, eventually you'll get it right. 1.gif

Notice how the level of difficulty goes up with the second shot. Amazing. If I had to go by only the second, I would have guessed New Jersey.

I think leaving something of the sign wouldn't totally give it away. With nothing to go on it's only a guess not much more (unless you live in that area).

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

Um... yeah, it would. As has been shown. If something is on the sign you can just google it and get an answer. And if it's a distinct alphabet (such as Japanese), it gives it way without the assistance of google.

Blurring out the sign text doesn't leave you with "nothing to go on". There's still the color of the sign and the style of the supporting structure it's on, the cars, the style of pavement markings and other aspects of the road, the surrounding environment...

I mean, looking at that picture, you wouldn't, for instance, guess Arizona, would you?

That's a good point, Duke. The green highway signs suggest the United States, and the fact that there are power lines going over the highway suggests that this is not an area that was built recently, (most of the time they put these underground now) I can also tell it's not Pennsylvania, b/c there would be more potholes... OK that's a long shot. But I did say earlier that it could be Jersey... but probably not b/c most overpasses in Jersey (and many other parts of the country) have an American flag hanging from them. So yeah it's much harder to tell where this is with blur vision... but it isn't impossible.
