Hello, Ciber.

Would you mind being a bit more specific in your request?  I believe I understand what you are asking but would like to be more sure.

Are you referring to adding a title to a region snapshot that you've taken?  (I believe this is what you are referring to?)

If so, once you've taken and saved the region snapshot, you will need to open the saved region snapshot in a graphics editor (like MS Paint, PaintShopPro, PhotoShop, etc.) and, using the "Add Text" tool of your graphics editor, add the title you desire in the position you desire onto your region snapshot.

Once you've completed your editing, save the region snapshot and you're ready to use where you wish!

I hope this has helped.  Please let me know if you need further help or I didn't understand your question properly.

Regards,

Vandy

You can only add at the bottom and to the right of an existing region.  You may have to enlarge the config.bmp map to do so.  If there is no config.bmp file in your region, you are sunk.  I don't believe there is one in a default region unless you created it yourself.

You can expand the bit map by changing the dimensions to make it larger, then adding colors as needed.  If you mess up an existing city, it is destroyed.

N O Body makes a very good point, be sure to backup the region before you make any changes to the config file. In fact it's a good idea to backup your regions once in awhile.

If you change the original config.bmp file of a terraformed, or incorporated city, it will revert to flat land.

Hi, Ciber.

I did, indeed, missread your original question.  My apologies for my error.

As the repliers have already stated, it is not an easy task to add city tiles to an existing map.

To be perfectly honest with you, it would be  much easier to start over with a new map.

Nonetheless, you will need to modify your original config.bmp file to incorporate the new city tiles.  As Tungston pointed out, if you are already terraformed the map or have already established cities, they will revert to level land.

However, you may want to try and use SC4Terraformer.  SC4TF will allow you to edit the landscape WITHOUT destroying a specific city tile.  When you open a region with SC4TF, you are asked if there are any cities you wish to "lock".  Locking a city has the effect of not allowing it to be terraformed.  Therefore, whatever is on that city tile won't be lost.

Be aware that you are still going to need to edit your original config.bmp file to include the extra city tiles.  also, be aware that this is not an easy task.  I would strongly suggest you read the tutorial that Star.Torturer referred to.

Regards,

Vandy

Since you stated you wanted to add tiles to your region, it was assumed you had an established region.

You can make a region any size with a config.bmp file.  You can create the image file with, paint, or any image editor, or drawing program.

This is the formula, and ratio, if you are going to render the region.
if not, don't worry about the grayscale ratio:

    grayscale to config.bmp ratio :
    64:1 plus 1

Large city = 4x4 pixels  blue
Medium city = 2x2 pixels  green
Small city = 1x1 pixels  red

The game default config.bmp is 16x16 pixels.

to create a region cold all you need is windows explorer and ms-paint.  Here's how:

    1. Open windows explorer and navigate to My Documents\Simcity 4\Regions
    2. In this folder add a sub-folder having the name of your new region
    3. Open this sub-folder.  The content will be blank.
    4. Use MS-paint to create a config.bmp file in this sub-folder using the formula given by tungston.  Use pure colors R, G, and B to make your city tiles.  You may vary the colors for ease of viewing, but for a large city the blue value must be 256, for medium the green value must be the same and so for a small city's red.  You do not have to fill the bit map and the city tiles do not have to be contiguous (you can have holes, but not if you want neighbor deals).
    5. Save the config.bmp in the sub-folder.
At this point, you could enter the game and open the region you just made.  You will get the layout you prescribed with default land, all flat.  You can manually terraform this.

If you want more than that, I suggest using SC4Terraformer or make your own gray-scale as an 8-bit, 256-step .jpg and save this in the same sub-folder.  You can then render this.

    Hi, Ciber.

You might want to read through the first part of my Tutorial: Creating Area Strip Maps and Multiple SC4 Regions tutorial.  It will give you a very detailed explanation of creating config.bmp files.

    Vandy

Hello again.  Here is an example of just doing what I showed above.

Here is the config.bmp magnified to 800% with the grid on

    PaintwithGridat800.jpg

And here is what you get when you open the city

Normal Paint is a bmp extension. One pixel is as small as there is, in anything.

Make a new image, the size you would like, and when done, save it as config.bmp.

Welcome to Simtropolis and our conversation.

There are many "money" lots around, just look in the STEX as mentioned above.  However, I want to point out that adding a query like this to an existing thread is called High-jacking.  If you want to ask a question, use the New Topic button at the top of the page.  No one will yell at you.

The only dumb question is one that never finds a voice.
